The Art of Journey book was first released last year and sold out very quickly. Due to demand, copies of the first edition have been selling for upwards of $350 online. The book is now being reprinted, with the first 500 copies signed by the game's Art Director, Matt Nava.

Preorders started today at $60 with free shipping ($5.40 tax is applied to orders shipped to addresses I'm California). Orders begin shipping 11/25.

Well jeez that sure is crazy money for that book. I am sure the eBay prices will deflate quickly after these release but hey a signed copy would be cool.

Maybe not since these are going to be labeled 2nd edition copies. First Run copies may still hold in value for collectors, that is.

Looks interesting, but for $60 bucks maybe I'll pass. Not a huge collector for artbooks unless Shiggy himself signs it, then its worth its weight in gold

If I had extra video game funds I would be all over this. But with xbox one and batman origins my funds are going there.

Ordered.

$60 seems high for a less than 200 page art book but the quality and content looks very nice. Thanks OP for posting this!

I got this during the first printing.  An absolutely gorgeous, high quality art book for one of my favorite games ever.  Highly recommended!

So its signed if it says signed upon checkout? Or is it an auto penned signature after 500?

I bought two. One to open and enjoy and one to give away or sell.

They are physically signed. And btw if you really did order two, I hope they cancel both of your orders.

P.S. they are already 'opened'. It doesn't come sealed.

I have an original, but I missed out on getting the signature by a few days with that one. I'm debating getting one of these signed, but I may have to pass. The signature isn't that important, to dish out another 60+. Decisions, Decisions?

Maybe consider selling the original for $300+ and buying this?

Did your original order indicate you were not getting it signed? I wonder if this pre-order has over sold the 500 and just did not get updated to indicate the signed copies are sold out (you can add more than 500 to cart and it lets you checkout with it).

Lol.. it's a sad world we live in. How because this one says "2nd edition" that means it's in any way inferior than the first edition printing..

You can't judge worth based on what some idiot prices something at on Amazon. You judge something's worth based on what it sells for, and I can assure you no one is paying that.  Anyway, who would want this?

By the way, this is a response to those assuming the first edition is worth $500 because someone listed it for that. It doesn't work that way...

Goes for over $300.

If you're trying to reply to my comment, I never said it was inferior, just might be less in value.

Think the first 500 have already sold out?
I'd think so. I'm sure the big resellers scooped up a few dozen.

I can imagine what would happen when people get unsigned copies despite their orders saying (signed).

Has anyone seen the signature on the first book? I always wondered how much the "value" of an item would be vs the same item that was presigned.

Wow, I had no idea it was going for such insane prices.

I had a signed copy but it was kinda damaged during transit so I sold it for $120 and bought a better condition one for $150. I wish I had held on to that damaged one... haha.

EDIT* How much more are signed copies of the first edition worth more than the non-signed? I see ended auctions for non-signed copies but not any for signed copies.

Why is that sad? Obviously you are not into art collecting or book collecting. Having a first, an original, is the most important aspect. I would never buy a second edition of anything that I collect.

So upon second thought does anyone know:

A) When this is supposed to ship

B) Will they announce when they are no longer fulfilling signed orders?

When I ordered a copy last night, it was stuck at the processing screen when I hit place order. The order went through though so check your email inbox

The first time around, when they sold out of the 750 signed copies, they pulled that listing and put up another one without "signed" in the title.

Anyone know where OP got the shipping date? I don't see that listed on the item page anywhere.

It was in the email announcement I got from the publisher. The email reads:

"The Long Awaited, Hotly Anticipated... The Art of Journey: 2nd Edition

Ever since the 1st edition books sold out, The Art of Journey has been widely requested. We immediately knew that there needed to be more produced, and it's finally coming! The 2nd edition copy has some minor typographical updates and is branded as a 2nd edition copy, but widely remains unchanged from the popular original. Journey® Art Director, Matthew Nava, will be back to sign the first 500 preorders for the amazing fans of Journey. You can preorder your copy today. Books are scheduled to begin shipping November 25th."

Ordered one, this will be a good gift to myself.  The order says (signed) so hopefully I'm still within the first 500.

Just ordered it now, and it was still listed as signed.  If it shows up not signed, I'll just do a return on it and tell them that it's not in the condition they advertised it as in the invoice listing.

Good, I was just getting ready to call them and find out what's going on. They already charged me back when i placed the order
yeah they charged me too when the order was placed. i will contact them again if i dont hear from them after next week to find out when this ships exactly.

Was it packaged well? Good to hear there on their way.
It was in a USPS medium flat rate box and wrapped in at least 1/2" of bubble wrap on all sides. There's no way it would get damaged.

And wow what a beautiful book!
