I'm probably going to get banned, but all of Cheapy's, Wombat's, and Shipwreck's (although not as bad) posts on twitter, FB, and here are all about Xbox one.  Since the day the consoles were announced.  I am getting both (I have both PS3 and Xbox 360), but it's kind of annoying since this is a gaming community and they're supposed to show some neutrality.  Otherwise this would be the CAG Xbox Forums.  Thoughts? or am i just overreacting?

 
They don't have to show any neutrality (though some level of neutrality is probably preferred, in order to reach the widest base possible). It's Cheapy's site, he can display whatever preferences he wants.

For what it's worth, I've heard Cheapy be critical of Xbox One on the podcast and praise the PS4. He was even dismissive of a (lack of) feature on the PS4, that it won't play MP3s. And he had just talked about how he likes to customize soundtracks in-game for things like NHL.

Lol, seeing as how there is still no Xbone section. Yet, there is PS4 mentioned(PS3 & PS4, but no Xbox 360 and Xbone).

I don't listen to the cagcast, but if the posts in those ever-so-lovable Twitter feeds on the home page are any indication, I think they are just trolling. They seem to relish the hate they've been generating on places like neogaf; I wouldn't really worry about it. Plus, Cheapy is bald... who would ever trust the opinion of a person without hair?

If you've been around long enough or do your research you'll know this site certainly had a bias at one time or another... but then again so did the typical American consumer... until they got their heads out of their collective asses and now, based on the latest sales trends all is back to normal in the video game world

 
Thanks OP. That was the dumbest thing I read today! Nobody has to keep anything "neutral". If you like something, you post about it. Why would, or should, anyone post about shit they don't want?
 
I don't need Cheapy et al. to be neutral, just be honest that they prefer MS. They pretend to be completely unbiased when it's clear that they aren't.
 
They aren't obligated to be neutral in any way. They make no claims as to being impartial. I do think it would be wrong if they only posted deals for XBox products. But obviously that isn't the case. So long as the deals flow freely for every system, I have no problem with the CAG crew preferring whichever console they like. It's just a matter of personal preference.

If you can't deal with their personal leanings, don't follow their Twitter or listen to their podcast. No one is twisting your arm.

Why would they have any obligation to have any neutrality? This is an online forum for video games deals not a news site, there is no reason anyone should be neutral about anything. I don't agree with you that Cheapy comes off as heavily pro MS either but even if he did, so what.

Which gaming communities have you been frequenting? Console/platform wars were a common fixture among gaming fans before the internet was around. I remember debating the relative merits of Nintendo vs. Sega on elementary school playgrounds. Neutrality has never been a common trait for gaming communities.

The only way you're going to see a greater degree of neutrality for this sort of thing is if you see a general up-tick in disposable income for all the participants. The general economy being what it is, that isn't likely any time soon. The average age of game enthusiasts is steadily increasing, but most of us still can't afford all the platforms. So long as that's the case, there will always be those who clamor for the platform they opted to back. No one wants to admit that they made an inferior choice.

The sad fact is, at this juncture you can't make a wrong choice. The rampant competition in the industry has polished every platform to the point that they all have merit. You could throw a rock and pick up a gaming platform that you will be able to enjoy.

Freaks like me who intentionally acquire as many platforms as possible aren't plagued by which console is best. We're drowning in a sea of content.

Gotta call BS on that one. Cheapy pretty much glossed over the Xbox One's glaring criticisms during E3 basically saying he didnt see what the big deal was about always online and not being able to play used games.

Any praise for Sony is few and far between. The Cagcast has a long history of being a Sony snob with the most recent being Ship trashing Beyond Two Souls and calling it an interactive movie. Yet, Alan Wake was an interactive movie, and they just were all gaga over that game. And even when you have a AAA Sony exclusive that every freaking reviewer gushed over like Last of US, the guys ended up trashing that title as well.

Dude is rolling in the dough and lives in the country with one of the best internet connections in the world. Both concerns really wouldn't concern him. He doesn't have to show neutrality it's cheapassgamer not cnn. And guess what not everybody likes everything. I didn't particularly care for last of use either. I would have rather have had uncharted 4 from naughty dog.

 
CAG is a deal site/community. Thus, Cheapy does not need to be neutral. He is free to express his love/favoritism for M$, Sony or Nintendo. That said, to suggest that somehow his bias might affect the community is pretty ridiculous.  Frisky runs one of the best deal threads on CAG and as far as I know Cheapy does not impede him in any way shape or form nor does he block Playstation/Vita deals.

So feel free to take this discussion back to NeoGaf or some other shitty forum.

 
Cheapy loves the Xbox... It's not that big of a deal, it's just based on his personal preferences. Shipwreck's Vita trolling on twitter annoys me more than anything.

 
I have no problem whatsoever with Cheapy liking the Xbox 360 more than the PS3 or expressing his love for it as the superior console. He has every right to be wrong.

He also hosts a very popular video game podcast. I don't have a problem if the hosts all love the Xbox more than Sony. But if you are going to discuss PS3 and games from an always negative bias commentary, that is annoying for people who happen to like Sony and their exclusives. Hell a lot of the time, they will completely ignore Sony exclusives. I certainly don't recall anyone talking about Ni Nu Kuni this year, and it was a game that received high marks. What about the Puppeteer? I seriously doubt they will even acknowledge a new Ratchet and Clank game this week. Let's face it, Sony kicked Microsoft's ass this year when it comes to exclusives.

If you are going to have a section where you talk about ALL the new releases then I want a fair review of the games.

Or do and maybe you'll learn something rather than just making your own beliefs more entrenched. Covering your ears and going la la la while somebody say's something negative about something you like isn't going to make that flaw go away. Both consoles are virtually identical it just comes down to what games and interface you like better. And microsoft knows how to develop a super pretty interface and has some kickass games. And if he really hated something he wouldn't even own it right? Pointing out stuff you don't like about something you own especially when there is a chance that somebody who can change it is listening isn't being a fanboy it's being smart. I use a custom rom on my phone from xda. If i find a bug and don't report it it may never get fixed. If people just ignore the flaws of a product they will never get fixed.

Wait... so you are begrudging them for having an opinion? You must never listen to sports talk radio or news/political radio. People have different beliefs and opinions. There is a vs thread on this site dealing with these very issue.

No not at all. I'm saying that only listening to opinions that you agree with isn't going to help you much. And pretending like flaws don't exist aren't going to make the flaws go away. If people didn't bitch about drm on the xbone it would still be there. If sony tried to pull the same thing and nobody complained we'd all be stuck with it. And cheapy d as a podcast host about videogames actually might reach someone who can make a change.

You "don't recall" anyone talking about Ni No Kuni or the Puppeteer?

Did you listen to CAGcast #314 at about the 58 minute mark - Ship says, " I really enjoyed it". He noted that he has only one "kind of complaint" (implying that it is not really a complaint) is that the story is too "Japanese" at the end. He notes, "it is a really solid game"; "They really did a good job of giving you a lot of game for your 60 dollars". "I really wish there was a shorter version for you to play Cheapy, because I think you and Ty would enjoy playing it".

As for the Puppeteer, CAGcast #336 at the 24 minute mark - Cheapy says "It's pretty cool"; "It's a really cool platformer"; he also calls it "unique", says that "it works" and "has personality and heart".

If you don't believe me, you can see for yourself since I actually used facts in this post.

Maybe you should quit relying on your memory since it is inaccurate. Or, could it be that you are suffering from confirmation bias about Cheapy being a MS shill?

Facts are your friend, get to know them before you post next time.

As I read on the commentary here, I actually agree with all different points of view in this matter. Afterall this is a "deal" forum and there really is no need for neutrality. But ass hats like the one above I have no tolerance for.

Actually, I find Wombat to be the most neutral.

But yeah, they're allowed to prefer whatever they want. It can get annoying at times but what does that really matter... I love his site and use it quite often. I also very much enjoy their podcast and it's one of only two that I listen to religiously. For all those things, I can shrug off a little bit of bias.
 
The thing that bothers me the most about listening to the Cagcast crew is the lack of imagination. Whenever they are discussing any of the newer developments in the industry, they always go to the most obvious, knee-jerk conclusions. They demonstrate very little imagination for exploring the potential opportunities that most of these changes could lead to.

But that's hardly a reason for me to brow-beat them. In many ways it makes it easier for their general audience to relate to them. As a hobbyist game developer, its just a little frustrating for me. I still listen to and enjoy their podcast, and intend to continue enjoying it.

 
Listen to some of the recent podcasts so you can hear CheapyD chant "PC, PC, PC."  CheapyD is off the consoles due to graphics and into PC gaming.  Could that change with the next gen. consoles?  Sure.  CheapyD has been somewhat clear that he doesn't want to speculate about the systems because things can change.  He said he would rather wait until he has the console.

They also don't all play the same games.  Shipwreck may only give a short mention of a game because CheapyD and Wombat are not going to play it and/or don't care about it.

Personally I like to hear their opinions about the systems and games.  Sure it comes down to their personal preference, but when they can explain instead of just bash or hate it gives me something to consider.

 
Did anyone hear Cheapy the jew pray to jesus that his ps4 works and the launch goes smoothly?  Yeah fanboys talk shit about a console then go ahead and buy one day one anyway

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that after cheapy gets time with both systems he's gonna prefer the ps4. I have both and just prefer it overall.
