The microtransactions haven't done the game any favors among the enthusiast fanbase. You recharge one SP by putting your 3DS to sleep for 8 hours OR you can buy a 3-pack of SP recovery from the DLC shop.

And yes, the game mentions the DLC in the tutorials; it's very much a "feature".

Woof.

That's tough to stomach. I had no idea. Definitely tempers my excitement. Guess I'll just have to replay FF: The 4 Heroes of Light.

well, i dunno what SP is in the game, but that sounds ridiculous. I friggin hate microtransaction BS. Fire emblem was horrible about it and it sounds like this game is bad too.. but fire emblem at least didn't charge you for regular gameplay element like healing or regening HP/MP or anything

I guess i should do some research into this, because if what you said is it charges you money to regen magic faster or somethingn then i may cancel my preorder

I'll wait until the NA reviews (I'll still likely pick this up, actually), but that's terrible if the game's tutorial emphasizes DLC. Obviously, we'll have the option to not buy it. But it just feels so... sleazy... if there's actually a major push to buy DLC within the core game.

I mean, I never felt like FE:A battered me over the head with that stuff. But I would have been royally pissed if the first few stages had a sales pitch for DLC.

The entire SP system was something that was added to the recent rerelease -- it's entirely possible to beat the game while ignoring it. It's separate from magic and the game's Brave/Default functions.

they made this version of the game easier than the original.  you never need to use the stuff.  it's for the super casuals.  don't let something that's pointless and optional stop you from enjoying the game :(

Just like the Microtransactions in Dead Space 3. I never used a single one, and I was still upgrading things throughout the whole game, and I was a super bad ass by the end! haha

I love JRPG's but since this game has microtransactions I will not be buying it. IMO microtransactions have no place in a $40-50 game. I might buy it when it goes on sale but I am not paying full price. If we all support this game then the next game will have full blown microtransactions and we will never see a DS game without them if they become profitable on this platform.

Also putting the system into sleep mode constantly will shorten battery life, then i will have to buy a new battery sooner since I will be going through more charges if my system is constantly in sleep mode due to this game. As if the 3DS's battery life isn't short enough as is.

Someone did point out that you really don't need them to play the game. I'm in no way a fan of them being in full price retail games either, but when they don't actually gate off or hinder your experience, then it's a victim-less crime. I used Dead Space 3 as an example of this earlier in the thread. Without ever buying a single one, I still upgraded stuff throughout the whole game and was a super bad ass at the end. Maybe wait for more information to pass judgment.

Ah, if it's handled like that, I won't mind at all. I've been hyped for this game all year, so I'm definitely grabbing it either way.

Except if we all support the game then don't buy the microtransactions.

And you can also just... not put the system into sleep mode. (Although I don't know how you expect to get Streetpasses. Mine's always in sleep mode.)

Yeah, I don't plan on paying for the microtransactions.  Never used sleep mode on my 3DS, probably until now.

The Microtransactions are 100% optional and there are ways to get things (drinks) without paying for them.

Paying is more of the "cheat" way to unlock stuff.

Tales does it too, and theirs are super over priced for what you get. I never see people bitching about those because they can be completely ignored without issue.

If you're talking about the DLC costumes, bonus money/EXP, etc., that's kind of different since they aren't really mentioned at all within the actual game AFAIK.

I never understood the complaining about microtransactions.  I agree that they are a useless and petty addition to gaming, which is essentially a developer's way to get more money from the product than they otherwise would get.  But as long as it's an **optional** addition to the game, and its not necessary to purchase anything to enjoy or beat the game, why the complaining?  For the people who enjoy the benefits that microtransactions provide, this is good for them.  And for the people who don't enjoy them, its purely an optional advantage to take care of.  The fact that they added them into the game does not bother me one bit because I don't even have to touch it to enjoy the game.

It's really as simple as that.

This all started as a simple delineation of what the micro-transactions in this particular game actually were. I don't think we need to go nuts defending or not defending them. Now we all know.

I am assuming this game is already out in Japan? If so, what has been the reception to this game over there? I rarely pre-order games but something about this one makes me want to. I just don't want to pre-order it and it turns out to be a horrible or mediocre game.

ugh do i pay for amazon to crush and break my copy or get it at my gamestop for 5$ more ??????  not sure about others but ive had to return 7 games in the past 2 months to amazon cause they are just jackasses lately in regards to their warehouse shipping.  the latest fiasco was the zelda boxset they took it out of the nice packaged prima box and tossed it in a big cardboard box with no packing with my 2 link between guides.  everything is mangled plus on top they are giving me a hassle returning it.

I never order anything that has any cardboard--the box, the slipcase, etc--from amazon. They always ship in bubble mailers or those bloody wrap around pieces of cardboard. They are among the very worst companies for safe shipping now, and just a couple of years ago they were the very best. For those that want to order online, I have found Gamestop's shipping to be the very best. Every boxed games comes in a nice, sturdy box. I can't say the same for any other online retailer.

Finally....Been waiting to get this pre-ordered at Amazon or Best Buy. How is Best Buy normally with CE's? Do they ship in bubble mailers or boxes?

I think it depends but I just got the Ys Celceta CE in a box with some padding.  I would also love for BBY to put this up.

Preordered. Don't know if I'll keep it, but I figured I'd better lock it in at the $50 price point. This Feb 7, Lightning Returns the next week (which I'm really only getting to show support for dual audio, even as DLC), plus Tales of Symphonia at the end of the month and FFX/X-2 and Witch and the Hundred Knights on the same day in March...ouch. Everything's always at one time, geez.
