Playstation 2 Slim - 109.00 @ Walmart

Whats the problem with someone interested on a PS2? PS3 & PS4 they both can't play PS2 games.
No one has a problem with it. I think it's more surprise, at least from me. I mean, those games look pretty bad on my 1080p tv. Plus a lot of the older games are actually available for download from the playstation store so I don't see the usefulness of spending 100 bucks on a console that you'll have to fit under your TV somewhere when you could just buy the downloads.

thanks for the heads up, ignore the haters who dont seem to know the difference between a new or used system. Still though, some of them are right this price is quite high. Id like another backup system but only at about 60-70 bucks probably max.

How many backup PS2's do you own?

sealed and new? 2.. and 2 open and in use right now. One on the big screen and one on my old 32" CRT. Wouldn't hurt to have 3 though =P My ps2 library is huge. I dont want to not be able to use it down the road

I regret not getting a gamecube when they were cheap. I picked up a few used ones on ebay but i really wanted a new/sealed one

I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I saw new one in a store for MSRP. As soon as Sony announced they were discounting the system they seemed to disappear from store shelves around here overnight.

Thanks, OP.  Kinda pricey but it may be one of the last chances to snag a new one.  I definitely own way too many PS2 games that I plan to play for a long time to not have a backup... and who knows if they will ever get the emulation right on that thing.

This is what I paid at WM, as their retail price, in May 2008. They certainly ought to discount it since you'd be clearing out shelf/warehouse space for them. :|

just get one used off craigslist for < $25

you could get a new one converted to used at Gamestop. dunno if they allow you to inspect the unit before buying. if so, you can easily tell if the unit is brand new or not.

FYI. I have this model (97706); its power adapter is integrated into the unit (i.e. no power brick).

Simple fix! Sony just needs to upload all the PS2 classics to PSN and allow them to be played on the Vita! DQ VIII, Rogue Galaxy, FF XII, RE4... man oh man. Screw remote play with PS4. Give the Vita the ability to play PS2 games.

It's hard to believe they still sell the PS2 in Walmart, it's even harder to believe they sell it for 109 dollars! Pretty pricey for such old hard ware.

Just bought 8 of these, OOS now. :D

These will go for $250+ easy. Taking my family to McDonalds tonight!!

I bought one off craigslist for $40 and it came with like 5 games, 3 controllers a memory card and a second power cable. $109 is waaaaaaay too much for a PS2 nowadays

Why not? I bought a backup system in Jan as my current one was purchased in 2001 and will probably die at some point. I have 160 games for the system and it has one of, if not, the best game libraries. It had such a diverse selection of genres. For me it was great for my favorite genre: JRPG's.

My PS3 plays PS2 and PS1 games.....first run PS3s play everything.
Okay, but the majority of PS3s can't play PS2 games so that doesn't do much for anyone.

Back on point, the PS2 is easily a or possible THE golden age of gaming. So many amazing titles on that system, making it leaps and bounds better than the PS3's library. I have a back-up slim; happy to have it since I have 185+ PS2 games and a launch system that I'm sure will give out before I get through even half of the titles :)

You can regularly find these at Goodwill for about $10-20
You find me 10 brand new PS2 systems at your local Goodwill, and you'll find yourself with a $500 reward.

Some people still have their original games, but their original Playstation is getting up there is age. And, as I recall, the first three years the pre-3500X models were out, many of the units ended up with DRE errors. There are actually a lot of people looking out for PS2 systems, and Walmart is pretty much the only place to find them at that won't cost $130 minimum. Vendors on Amazon sell them anywhere between $130-$160 now that they're out of production and still in demand.

Personally, being a "cheap ass" and all, I never understood the logic selling off all my PS2 games for pennies on the dollar, so I could re-download them for $10 on another system that may or may not be there one day... but that's just me.

I have 2 sealed ones from when I found them at Target for $50. Also have about 6 new controllers that were $5 there as well.

I also have like 150 Ps2 games in my backlog, so i figured its a safe investment.

(Then i have a sealed psone and lcd sitting in the closet too =] )

The golden age of gaming? Do they not have Nintendo where you're from?

109 is too much for one of these new. If these were 29 new, I'd even buy one and don't have any desire to play anything from the library again except for a handful of games.

If these were around $50 I consider it, but I already have a sealed spare I picked up a year or two ago.  Some of us just like to hold onto our games and still play them again down the line and I know from experience trying to find a decent condition discontinued system at a reasonable price sucks.

But you can play GameCube games on the original Wii which you can get for like 40 bucks...

At college I saw people playing SNES and N64. Yet there are emulators to run those games. There is a market for classic games.

I just saw one of these at a Target.  I scanned it and it rang up $129.99....I was about to buy it but than noticed the Sony Seal was broken so I just put it back.

I for one would not buy one of these at this price. I've got a phat and and a slim that I have replaced the laser on both of. Cost me all of 10 bucks shipped. Paying 100+ for something that will sit on your shelf for years is a little over the top. Will you actually ever use it? Most likely not. Hell, my phat is a launch system and has outside of the laser dying worked like a champ since I've had it and I know for a fact it has over 1000 hours logged on it.

I've got some of these in their original boxes if anyone wants for a reasonable price. Both silver and black models. I think some are still in their plastic and shit.

I can understand the principle behind buying backup systems, but my guess is that used PS2s in working condition will be available for cheap on the secondhand market indefinitely, so there shouldn't be a need to have a replacement on hand in advance of failure.
