I quit my job to go full time indie!

CAGiversary!
After seeing so many other posts similar to this I thought I should make my own thread about it. Yesterday I quit my job to go full time indie. Currently, my 1st game is being finished in C/C++, but I plan to complete many more projects using Game Maker in the near future. I wrote a blog post here.

Please read it and let me know what you think.

I look for your wisdom and support in this huge life endeavor.

With this note, I do plan to resume development for the OUYA, I just need to get native C++/SDL to work with it 1st.

Ambitious, especially to be shooting for this goal at such a young age. I hope you do well.

While the OUYA is an interesting platform to develop for, I would avoid any exclusivity for it. It just isn't worthwhile to develop games only for the OUYA for the time being. Thankfully, most games that could work well on the OUYA would also work well on just about any PC with a gamepad connected. So ports should be no real problem. The real strength of the OUYA is its open nature, and the ability to experiment with less conventional approaches.

Be sure to post your progress and thoughts on game design here. I would love to hear about them.

Yeah,

I plan to port to OUYA after computer releases, but I do love things like OUYA and the GCW-Zero.

I even want to get on Nintendo, Xbox and PS4 as well...

Don't know a thing about you/your game but chanced upon this thread. Watched your video for kickstarter and preordered the game from the superlongname site just now.

with programming skills and a linkedin account, you should net 3times that pay. we'll at lease you're not losing much, hope your game does well.

You made the right decision. I quit my job making almost $20 an hour to PLAY video games. Wish I could tell you I was joking but i'm not. I reached a point where I had more money than I could possibly spend responsibly, no bills, no debt and a 50-60 game backlog which i have worked down to 40ish. lol. Honestly, I'd love to invest a good chunk of it right now, but i have a feeling that when the economy improves 2% and the stock market improves 27% in one year there is bound to be a correction where one could get a better deal.

Minimum wage guys are due for a raise. Anyone working their ass off right now will be shortchanged when they raise it and inflation kicks in as they tone down the bond buying imo. Do what you want with your life and kick ass at it.

And I can vouch for the linkedin account being worthwhile. Been offered 2 jobs recently through linkedin and a third job I was looking at required a link in addition to resume. Lot of headhunters use it, but I have also been contacted by companies directly.
