red eye of death- solutions?

so a family I work with has a 4GB 360 slim that over the Christmas break acquired a "red eye of death".

is there a way to fix this? anybody have any experience with this problem? they don't have a lot of money and I want to try and fix it for the little boy I work with so he can still game. cheers!

You can check online if the console is still under warranty or not via the Xbox site:

If it's under warranty still, which it might be, you would just set up a repair with Microsoft.

Otherwise, you'd need to find out the error code and do some Google searching on how to resolve the issue.

I thought that only worked for "phat" 360s

Hopefully it's just normal aging of the thermal paste. If that's the case, then it's only about $25 to repair it. But what shrike4242 said is highly reccommended to be the first thing you try. Best of luck to ya!
