Might be worthwhile for someone looking for the upgrade, but that deal from the holidays where you could trade in practically ANY Xbox 360 or PS3 for $100 beats the pants off this.

Thanks but no thanks. You could probably sell those versions for twice as much on eBay or Craigslist. And considering the state of the game library for the Xbox One, you'd be better off both gaming wise and money wise to stay away from this deal.

You might get a better deal for the 360 by keeping the console and trading in the hard drive and power brick to gamestop. I guess that's an okay price if you don't use your ps3 and want a xbone though.

$100 off? fucking garbage. These systems are full of great games and you would be a fool to do this. You could get $200 easily off Craigslist if you absolutely had to, but I wouldn't do it for that, either..

I just saw Slim. The minimum is $150 if you sell it on ebay and becomes $135~ after ebay taxing. Only worth it if you are pretty much desperate to get money =/

unless you are trading in a rrod/ or banned xbox 360, or ps3 slim that does not read disc. i doubt most people would do it. it just needs to turn on at bestbuy , when they take in consoles. It is not like gamestop, where they take their sweet ass time playing a game on it, testing it out.

Edit: i guess once the ps4 supplies are replenish, there is a good a chance for a similar promo like this for the ps4.

Just found this on Bestbuy Website on the right side

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Electronics-Promotions/Online-Trade-In/pcmcat133600050011.c?id=pcmcat133600050011

There is no terms yet so I dont know what the condition the PS3 or Xbox needs to be.
here are the terms:

Get a promotional trade-in value of $75 through 2/1/14 on Sony PlayStation 3 (Slim models), and Xbox 360 with 250GB hard drive or larger gaming consoles. Payment for trade-in is by Best Buy gift card. Offer cannot be combined with any other trade-in offers and is not available in all locations. Condition, documentation and accessories may affect value. Device must power on to be considered working. Water damaged devices are not considered working devices for purposes of this offer. Warranty seals must be intact for trade-in of gaming systems. Customer will be required to agree to the Terms & Conditions. Participating stores may have additional requirements. Best Buy Company reserves the right to refuse any trade-in or limit quantities for any reason. See a Customer Specialist or BestBuy.com/Tradein. Upon trade-in of a qualified gaming system, a trade-in coupon for $25 toward an Xbox One gaming console will print with the trade-in receipt. Coupon only valid until 2/1/14. Tax applied to the Xbox One is applied based on the full retail value. Limit one $75 gift card and one $25 coupon per person.

The only way I could see this being somewhat worthwhile is if you have a phat 360 with a 250gb hard drive
i doubt bestbuy is that stupid( but who knows), as they still do sell slim xbox 360 250 gb. Since they are no longer selling phat xbox 360 consoles anymore.

Edit: actually people might get away with it, base on the ambiguity in the wording, since people were able to get bestbuy to honor those $60 + trade in mistake prices during the last months 100% trade in.

Old 360 + old computer hard drive.

You're all welcome.

This. Even though, I almost regret trading in my launch 20gb PS3 for that $100 promo (mainly because I didn't play the Last of Us)

"$200 easily.."

Are you shopping craigslist in 2009 again?
Haha. I was thinking the same.

Without "researching" any, I would think you could get $125-150. But if you're going on ebay, after fees and shipping it might be less than that. I would at least consider this exact deal if it were for $100 towards a PS4. Selling used games is nothing, but selling a console is a different matter. There is alot of value in the convenience and ease of a instant trade-in credit.

I would consider $100 a "fair" deal. Not a great deal (like when they actually did offer $200 just a year or so ago), but I wouldn't feel totally ripped off either - which I'm sure whatever the normal trade values are, I would be.

I traded in my 360 during the $100 promo.

...then I was like: WTF did I do? Now I own another one :/
I was close to doing that when it was like $175, or whatever the last really high offer was from Gamestop. I will definitely keep one of this gens consoles, but I felt like between the PS3 and 360 I needed to eliminate one of them.

I was actually feverishly trying to finish up my 360 backlog just to trade it in. I didn't make it, now my 360 backlog is bigger. :wall:

Honestly though, if I see an offer again where I can actually get MORE than the console is worth. I think it will be time to liquidate and make room for new consoles (Wii-U, PS4). Rarely have I regretted parting ways with an old console - once I actually do it.

I don't think we're ever gonna get that $100 best buy deal again. Id settle for $75. But not with the hard drive.

Same thoughts. It's fair. I have a CFW PS3 slim that I had because it allowed me to remote play some games on my vita. Now it is in a box in my closet collecting dust. So could I conceivably get more than $100? Maybe. Is it serving me $100 of good right now? No.

Is any version of the ps3 slim eligible? I have an old 120gb version that is collecting dust.

If you desperately need to sell your 360 for peanuts in order to afford an Xbox one, you should rethink jumping into the next generation for now...because if you can afford a $500 console - I mean really afford it; not scrap together $500 from gift cards and birthday money - then you can afford to keep your 360. But I suppose this is more applicable to working adults with disposable income.

as for kids and teens...i guess all they care about is instant gratification and could care less if they're getting ripped off. If the bottom line says they'll be getting a new system, common sense goes out the window. Ahh, the blissful ignorance of a teenager.

The normal trade value I'm sure is a ripoff, but this at least brings you very close to "fair value" (of what you would net out of a sale + shipping costs + fees). A fair value trade with no risk, and no "shipping", is a decent deal for adults or teenagers alike.

I'm definitely going to look to do something like this (provided similar trade offers continue to pop up) whenever I "finish" with my 360 and decide to move into next gen. I'm resolved to hang onto my PS3 long term, but if history is any indication that is probably stupid of me.

By the time I pulled out my NES, it no longer functioned. Plus alot of my old cartridges went missing from a move. When I pulled out my PS2 a few years ago - *ALL* of my controllers had mysteriously failed even though the system was kept in PRISTINE conditions. I guess somehow just sitting there so long without use, the electronics/mechanicals inside went bad. I bought a brand new PS2 controller to play a few games (around the time when they were starting to disappear) - but of course I never got around to actually PLAYING them for more than a couple hours. So I compounded my mistake by wasting $20 on another controller. My PS1 worked, but with so many PS1 classics on PSN I ended up donating the system and physical games to goodwill (save for a few "rare" ones that I sold on ebay). Basically it has almost universally been a waste for me to hang onto old consoles... I sold my SNES and games for good money. I still have my Gamecube, PS2, Wii... all just collecting dust. Probably should have sold them years ago...

They're HOPING you can...from what I've heard it's not exactly going as smoothly as they had hoped.
not to sound condescending, it is already happening. it just takes time to smooth it out. streaming the last of us is already in the works , since it is a playstation exclusive title.

Eh, I don't know about that. There are a lot of reasons why a working adult might toss their 360 away for $100. Back in 2006 I traded in DVDs, games, the PS2, GameCube and a GBA SP for just over $700 trade-in credit at GameStop. I could've bought a PS3, but they had a few promos that I took advantage of and saved myself a lot of cash.

well, I guess the debatable part of all this is that you'd first have to acknowledge that selling a 360 for $75-$100 is "saving money." I don't see it at all. Even if I didn't plan on ever playing my 360 again, I'd at least look at it as a back up/extra media center (actually, I guess I'm more referring to ps3 here), or better, and great gift for a young person or a new fellow gamer at no extra cost to you. They'd get all the games with it too. To the recipient of that, it's worth far more than $100.

but really, for me, I keep my platforms because when I have older kids and then grandkids, I want to be able to whip out a ps3 to show them. I know that, just like I'm doing now with nes and genesis, ill be scavenging the classified ads in year 2056 looking for a ps360 and regretting that I ever sold that ancient device for peanuts. Still, this is assuming that they will even work. Might all be in vain. The hardware would still be enough lol

bottom line is, I guess, that it depends on what it's worth to the individual.

It does come down to the individual. But I see zero chance of scavenging for a PS3/360. It's not going to be the same as with the old-school consoles. The vast majority of this gens games were on PC anyway, in far superior form. There is little to no nostalgia to me.

Also it's not so much "saving money" as it is just getting a little bit back for something that would otherwise clutter the house and not serve a purpose. Saying "save it for the grand-kids" in year 2056 or "keep it for a backup" is hoarder speak.

That being said, getting $100 is right in the zone where it can go either way. It's not good enough for people to trip over themselves to trade their old console in (I would for $150 at this point), but it's also not bad enough that they are getting ripped off or would regret it. Like I've said, it's basically just getting "fair value".

News flash: your kids and grand kids won't give a shit about your xbox 360 or any other old console.
no, my kids won't be complacent little shits. I have fond memories of my grandparents showing me old things that applied to my life. Who knows, maybe my future grandkid will have to do a history report and he'll decide to do it on the infancy of the video game industry. Point is, ya never know :)

hoarding? Lmao dude. It's a piece of video game history. Am I a bigger hoarder for having an nes and snes? What about saving my Charizard card? Family pictures? You also seem to forget that one day, the ps3 will also be an "old school" console as much as the rest of them. It's naive to think it's ok to save retro consoles but taboo to hold on the ps360s... I wish I hadn't sold my n64 and ps1. Why not apply that here? It would be utterly stupid to not learn from such a simple mistake.

also, I have a retro gaming section of the game room in my house. Hoarders let shit pile up and get dusty and moldy. Mine are on fine display. Let's think about terms before using them

If this dope is done lecturing us on what to do with the systems, anyone try this yet? I know the $75 is a gift card but how does the extra $25 to the xbox 1 work, something on a reciept? Would you be able to go get the credit even if your not buying the Xbox 1 that day?

IIRC, the fine print says the coupon is good until 2/1/14 so you have a little bit of time before you need to redeem the coupon.
