lol... I re-wiki'd the old thread a dozen or so times, and no one ever edited it.
Wikis are really unreliable so I didn't want to mess with them (also I don't know if they ever changed it so someone besides the OP can edit the title), and after almost 4 months/10,000+ posts, it felt like a new thread was in order anyway.

Yeah, definitely. I just think it's funny that there were a bunch of complaints (not sure how many were serious) about the OP not being updated, yet no one ever used the wiki when I kept re-wikifying it.

Anyway, I've locked the old one.

I'll start..... Indie gaming, the biggest blight on the PC gaming industry since the rise of the console port.

Posting for the star... and to say that do NOT buy Wake and Lunnye whateveritis. Terrible, terrible games.

Thanks to MNS for the new thread smell!

I was waiting to see how long it would take people to notice. Don't be an ass and beg for him to come back. Let us have our peace and quiet and proper English.
And a predominantly text based, spank free forum.

Well, awhile ago Fox picked up State Of Decay and gave a pretty glowing review of it (even back when it was early access, which it isn't now). It clicked with me and I've wanted it since. When it hit 50% off ($10) I broke down and grabbed it with Steam wallet.

(Probably) a long State Of Decay review:

First off, the gist of it is "Yet another zombie survival game", so if that's not your thing then you probably aren't going to love it. That said, if I could sum up the game in one sentence, it would be: State Of Decay what the Dead Rising series should have been. It's third person zombie survival done right. Granted it has flaws and bugs and is REALLY vague and requires a fair bit of internetting to figure out exactly what you're doing, but in the end it captures the brutality of the danger that should come with a zombie outbreak.

The game finds a nice balance between open-world and story-driven. You're following a story and characters, there's lots of dialogue and campaign style content that appeals to people who need direction like that in a game. Or you can just say "nah" and do your own thing most of the time and wait to do the missions later on (though you will need to do them at some point to progress some things). Lots of little side missions like teaming up with a fellow survivor to hunt down and take out a special zombie, helping a group of neighbors fend off a siege, or even saving individuals from death, pop up here and there so you've always got something to do if you're not strictly following the story missions.

Gameplay, like I mentioned before, is reminiscent of Dead Rising. Third person, running around smacking zombies around. Guns are a strong part of gameplay too, but weight limits and whatnot mean ammo can be scarce at times. Even when you're loaded up with lots of ammo, you might not want to pop a shot off anyways (unless you're in trouble or are getting attacked by a special feral zombie), because once you start shooting... zombies are going to hear it. I've gotten utterly swarmed sometimes when shooting a lot, while other times I've only had a little attention. It all depends. Because of that, you're going to want to stick to melee primarily, which feels pretty good once you get used to it.

Bladed weapons chop parts off zombies, and deliver a lot of killing blows from simple attacks, but are fragile. Blunt weapons aren't much slower than bladed weapons, but instead of chopping parts off and killing enemies often immediately, they knock them down more often, and once an enemy is downed, you can finish it off immediately. Heavy weapons... can't say I'm positive of the pros and cons, since I only have one character I'm making use them right now, and I haven't used him much. I can say they have a wide hit radius though and do some impressive damage, though. As you fight more, shoot more, run more, you're building up stats in different categories, which lead to weapon specializations, perks, and even new abilities. It's not some deep Diablo-esque skill tree, but it's a nice RPG style addition to character development in a game that honestly would be fine without it.

The greatest aspect of the game definitely comes from the community building, though. You have to build relationships with your fellow survivors (you can only play as a certain survivor once you're friends with them), build up your home base, find the right people to bring into your community, stake out outposts to give yourself safe havens, help people in your community out when they're having a rough time, take on missions with them, allow them rest when they get tired or injured, find new places to set up base when you want to move further out or are outgrowing your last home, etc. There's a lot of depth to the system and it's really fun and well done.

If there's one last thing I'd like to add, it's a little experience I had with the game last night. One of the survivors in my complex (a rather badass chick with a shotgun and a bad attitude) found a feral zombie and I took on the mission with her to take it out. It was a BIG zombie, and not an easy fight. I thought smashing into it full speed with trucks would be the best bet, but since it was so big, doing so only quickly put the truck out of commission and blew out the tires in the front. I tried this with a couple cars and the most I could do was knock the big boy down, so finally we went for him full on, knocked him on his ass with the truck, and then jumped out to pump him with shotgun blasts. It seemed to be going well, but I had to reload (not all too fast of a process on a pump action), and while I was doing this, he went for my partner and picked her up, broke her back, and tore her clean in half.

You can't see something like that and not get pissed off and emotional. I rushed him in a rage, brought him to a knee with a salvo of shots, and then finally blew his head off at point blank. All I could do was pick up my partner's rucksack from the carnage of her body and drive home in silence. There is no reloading your save in this game. If your character dies, they're dead. If a fellow survivor dies, they're dead. That's it. That encounter sucked, and I lost a good survivor, but you just have to head back to base and carry on. That's a true zombie survival game. Best one I've ever played.

TL;DR, State Of Decay is awesome. Buy it next time it's on sale.

The games are so-so, but the dev's fetish for lens flares and unnecessary filters on top of everything makes the games almost unplayable.

Lunnye is pretty okay for an exploration-based game. Wake seemed allright too. Really Big Sky really big sucks because of the really big filters on everything.

As for tebow, I'm actually curious why he got banned. I mean, nothing he ever did before was enough, so what did he do that went too far?

(Also the site won't let me see his latest posts, or his profile. Bleh.)

I saw that there was a "Lunar Pack" on Steam! That was very disappointing when I found out it wasn't SegaCD/PS1 rpgs.

Good riddance seasonal-CAG posts.

Yeah, someone spill the beans about tebow, I want to know what happened too. Lemme guess, he posted actual porn.

Ok so I'm trying to play Borderlands 2 again to go through the DLC and... wow, I do not remember how to play this game at all.  I mean, sure it's a simple pew pew shooter, but I think I have a messed up build (I recall changing it to farm some big baddy, and I was specced for pure damage gunzerker, and now I'm dying left and right in DLC).  This may be a steep learning curve....

And this is why I should play DLC soon after the main game... not over a year later.
