MyBestBuy Unlocked Membership - Two Day Sale for $60 (save 50%) - Ends 3/11/14

dc delta90

CAGiversary!
Posted this in the Unlocked thread but thought it might deserve its own thread.

Two year membership for $60 instead of the regular $119.99. Don't have to buy anything else to get the deal. Today (Monday) and Tuesday only. In store only.

Just go into your local Best Buy, grab one of the Unlocked cards (they're blue, kind of look like an Xbox Live card), take it to the register and it will ring up for $60. Make sure you buy any new or preowned games you want on the same transaction and you'll get 20% off the new ones and 10% off the preowned immediately. Takes about one day for the membership details to load into the system. Will be able to use your discount online or in-store. Have to be a MyBestBuy Member before signing up for Unlocked. Can do that online or in the store as well. Just need a MyBestBuy member number so you can get your discounts going forward.

And if you haven't preordered Titanfall and are interested, might as well do that today as well. You'll get a $10 MyBestBuy cert for preordering and purchasing the first week. Get that about 15 days after you buy the game. And yes, you'll get 20% off the game as well for being Unlocked.

And yes, you can use your gift cards from the Xbox One trade-in deal being talked about here ($45 for select Xbox One games, ends Tuesday as well) to sign up for Unlocked.

Happy Titanfall everybody.

Is the offer worth it if you are a WiiU/3DS/PS3/PC owner with no plans on buying a PS4 for probably at least 2 years and never buying an Xboner? I feel like most of the deals I see in this forum through BBGU are for PS and Sony, not Nintendo. But if all games are 20% off, maybe that is worth it alone.

All video games are 20% even ones on sale (not price matched ones) and as a Wii u owner, it's the only way to get nintendo titles on sale!

It's worth it, even for nintendo games. Although I think a majority of the deals are Microsoft/Sony.

I just picked up Lego City for the 3DS the other day. Showed as 29.99 on the web I think but in store it was 24.99 or something on the tag. With GCU I saved another 5 bucks. Out the door for a little over 20 after tax. Not bad... You'll find deals like this from time to time. Plus on newer games even for Nintendo, you're saving about 12 bucks per purchase. But that goes for anything. I would definitely snag this up for $60 if money isn't an issue. Just my opinion.

On preorders, you're getting 10 in rewards and are saving 20% at the time of purchase. You can't beat that with a stick if you're one to buy day one releases!

Wow, great deal for those not yet GCU members--I can honestly say that GCU is one of the best memberships I've ever had based on the awesome deals and 20% discount on new games. :bouncy:

OP, any news on when those of us who renewed with the $30 2-year coupon will have the GCU expiration year on our account fixed? My date still says 2015 when it should be 2016.

Hmm...I hate Best Buy but I love saving money on day 1 game releases. Quite the moral dilemma. I'm not sure I can count on my local store getting stock of things in a timely fashion, does anyone else have any experience on whether or not their stores get games on release date reliably?

at the very least you can preorder for store pickup and they will have it at customer service on release day. other than niche titles though, my best buy has everything out on release day

I've been getting my games day 1 from Best Buy for at least a year now and I can only think of one time when they didn't have a game yet (Xcom Enemy Within, which was a smaller release).

Does anyone know if you can stack the membership? Like if I'm unlocked until 2015 can I buy this and be unlocked until 2017 (assuming bb is around that long)?

I've almost made my money back in under 2 months without a ps4 or xbone, but that also includes a ton of 360 games from that b2g1 glitch/deal. Supply in stores and online of older gen is dwindling fast, but if you have a list of titles you plan on buying soon, especially 1st party nintendo, it will probably work out for you. I keep waiting for some kind of wiiu/3ds sale or b2g1, but they keep holding out.

I'm really tempted, planning to pick up TItanfall (360) and the Diablo 3 expansion so thats like $20 in savings already. Just got to save $40 in the next 2 years to justify this purchase haha.

Anyone know exactly where these GCU "cards" are located? I'm guessing the game section, but to be honest I've never seen them.

Meh, only watchdogs and ff 10 x/x-2 HD is all I have on the horizon.

Plus it'll be about a year before I dive into next gen :(

Is this deal available at all stores?  I was looking thru their website in the deals and such but can't find any proof of this being on sale.  I just don't want to go to the store and have it ring up at $120 and have nothing to show them that it should be 50% off

Why can I still not pull the trigger for $60? I feel like I'd be locking myself into only buying games from Best Buy for 2 years. If there were still a magazine is bite.

yeah but they'll PM amazon and the likes, so i'm assuming you can use the 20% off with a PM?

Woohoo! Thanks OP! As of 10 minutes ago, I am now officially a GCU member. No more need to be jealous of all you GCU guys anymore. Let the deals begin. :D

Depends on your store. Mine were located by the Xbox/MS point cards, near where they hang those pre-order cardboard things.

I don't know if it's all stores, but it's a legit sale. There is a sign right above the GCU membership cards that says "Sale $60." If it's not $60 for you, just don't pay and say you changed your mind. Not a big deal.

You wouldn't really be locking yourself in. You don't need to buy games on day one. The 20% discount applies to all non-pre-owned games. With all the deals and "deals" that have been going on in the past few months, you would've more than made up your $60 fee.

irishsoccermbw, go on the BestBuy forums and PM one of the mods.  I allowed my $30 Coupon for a 2 Year renewal to expire too but I asked nicely and they reissued it to me via email.  Going to go after work and renew for two years at $30! :)

Only catch is I believe your membership still needs to be active and not expired.  Its worth a shot. (I was shut down when I called 888 BESTBUY and also when I emailed support.  Only sending a PM to a Mod on the forums I was able to get it reissued which is BS but Ill take it :) )

Does hardware get 20% off?
I've found that, not only does hardware not qualify, any game that comes with the slightest piece of hardware also doesn't qualify. Wii Fit U, Wii Party U, and those game/controller bundles are right out the window. On a personal note, games that have come bundled with guides, collector's editions, Kid Icarus Uprising (which comes with an extremely minor piece of plastic to function as a stand), and even Spirit Camera apparently don't qualify (unless you buy them used without the add-ons).

Furthermore, anything you have PMed doesn't qualify.

You get a bonus TiV as well, but it's 10% and Best Buy isn't excatly known for generous TiV to begin with. Unless you are trading in new games days, or weeks, after launch the bonus TiV is negligible.

Unless you are buying several titles at launch (doubtful if you frequent this site), I've found it's not even worth the original $30 investment my roommate got it for, let alone the $60 investment they are asking now. And even then, remember you'll be missing out on other launch deals like the Injustice deal Target had at launch, or the Tropical Freeze deal Toys R Us just had.

Maybe if all software was included in this.... if I were saving 20% on movies and CD's in addition to games the membership might be worth something. As it is now you really have to ask yourself just how many titles you buy at launch.

games bundle with remotes do qualify I bought mario and sonic Sochi Olympics with blue wii mote a month ago and it took 20% off automatically and the wii party u game you just quoted I just added to my cart and it took 20% off automatically the only part that paragraph u r right about is the wii fitness stuff

if i walk in today and buy GCU for 60, how soon do i get the 10% trade bonus?  or do i already have that with my "My Best Buy" reward?

edit: i see the 10% bonus is Unlocked only.   first question still stands

It's not supposed too. I haven't made a purchase online, but when I tried in-store I was denied at all 3 locations. Sounds like you may be purchasing used, or software only?

Besides, why the hell would Wii Fit U not work when bundles with DS3 or Wiimotes do? The terms VERY CLEARLY state that hardware is excluded. It's just unfortunate that Best Buy's definition of "hardware" extends to everything that isn't a disc + case :boxing:

I would do this if I had a BB close, but my BB is a bit of a hike to use for my regular gaming pickup spot.

I know GCU works for online orders, but eh...

I didn't see anyone ask this one yet (apologies if someone did and I simply missed it), but does this work on currency cards? Will this give 20% off on say, eShop / PSN / XBL cards? As great as physical media is, I've been working on picking everything up digitally lately.

no it does not it only on actual physical copies of games: no accessories, currency cards, digital downloads, etc.

This has been my dilemma too and why I refused to sign up at $120. But $60 is more manageable and since I'm already planning to preorder Destiny, Arkham Knight, and at least a couple more games I'll get some money back from that along with good discounts on sale prices. I'm lazy and don't want to drive 2 hours round-trip after work today but this kind of savings is tough to
Beat.

Excellent points. Thanks everyone for the feedback. Guess I'm stopping by Best Buy tonight!

Correct me if I am wrong but you get the RZ certs for those preorders regardless of if you are GCU or not, don't you? Either way you should save a good $12 per game assuming you aren't going in for CE's.

I've shit-talked this membership deal in the past as I thought $120 was a bit too much, but $60 is a bit more palatable.

Hmm. I'm gonna take the day to think about it. A shame that 20% doesn't extend to consoles as well.
