CAGiversary!
So Summer and E3 are getting closer and soon we will know more about the Playstation Now program. Come here to talk about the service, what you are looking forward to, what are you concerned with, what games do you want to see or play?

Cost of PS Now possibly Leaked?

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/renting-a-ps3-game-from-playstation-now-could-cost-5-is-that-the-sweet-spot/1100-6418204/

One of the most pressing unanswered questions about Sony's upcoming cloud-powered streaming service PlayStation Now is how much it will cost to rent games. We may now know, as an image posted on the Gaikai website shows a rental for Naughty Dog'sUncharted 3: Drake's Deception will be $5, while you can rent Ubisoft's Far Cry 3 for $6.

The image was spotted by VG247 and remains available through the history section of Gaikai's website. Sony purchased Gaikai in 2012 for $380 million and announced during CES this year that it would use the company's technology to power PlayStation Now, which is now in beta.

The duration of a game rental is not specified in the image. In addition to individual game rentals, Sony will offer a Netflix-style subscription package, though the image today does not mention subscription plans. Sony has yet to officially announce pricing information for PlayStation Now and the company has not commented on today's report.

It is possible that the image posted on Gaikai's website is nothing more than a mockup of what the PlayStation Now user interface could look like.

PlayStation Now will go live in North America this summer for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. Support for the PlayStation Vita, as well as Bravia TVs and smartphones and tablets, will come later.
UPDATE: LENGTH OF RENTALS POSSIBLY LEAKED

http://www.vg247.com/2014/03/14/playstation-store-update-brings-non-functioning-rental-links-linked-to-ps-now-report/

Both MP1st and PSNStores report the North American PS Store now shows one, seven and 30 day rental options on some titles, including Atlus’s Catherine.

The rental options don’t work as yet, however, and a bit of investigation byNeoGAF users turned up evidence the rentals may apple to PS Now, Sony’s Gaikai-powered streaming games service.

PS Now is currently in closed beta testing in North America.

Whatever Sony is doing with the PS Store, it resulted in a significant delay to this week’s update.

I will update the OP with further news as we get it. Until then feel free to comment and discuss!

my question is how long do you get to rent it for if that is for any less than 5 days pretty sure PS Now will fail. Especially since you can buy those games for 10 dollars more.

Yea I think that is the biggest question and will really tell us what happens. Right now the only non-subscription way of renting games is Redbox, and they are $2 a day. I remember when it was $5-$7 to rent a game for a week at Blockbuster, used to do that all the time to try games when i was a kid. I only got games at Christmas so it was the way I could figure out which games I would want at that time.

I am also interested in seeing how much the subscription will be if they are charging $5-$7 for single rentals. If it is at least 2 weeks then I think they are on the right track, anything less and won't make the most sense.

Interesting.

It might be worth it for some depending if it's 5-7 days, but I doubt most would bite if it is 3 days or less. I'm surprised they didn't come out and offer something like $100 for a years worth of PSNow.

Well we don't know that yet, and it is just a rumor as some also think it may be a place holder. If they can beat Redbox, they get my money... that is the only thing to compare it to. not to mention the possibilities of late fees are gone as the game just expires.

They said they would do ala carte, and a subscription, so hold off on whether there won't be a pay price A for a year.

Family Video also has a rental service for games 6.99 for 5 days so honestly for anything less than 10 days will be worthless to me because most of the games on there will be things I can buy at Family Video for 2 dollars more.

My only concern right now is how this affects the free games on ps+. Will the quality of the titles decrease or will psnow stick to really new current games?

For instance, ps+ recently got Bioshock Infinite which was a pretty big title when it came out. Would it have made it to ps+ for free or been put up to rent for however long the rental lasts?

I just dont see yet how they plan to balance out the two.

Rumor is it will be free with PS+
No, that is just what on forums people keep saying will happen, other wise it will fail. No, it's not happening. Especially seeing the single game rentals, unless they plan to double the price of PS Plus, then I could see it, but not going to happen.

heck $100 for Plus and PS Now for a year would be a steal.

You guys seem to be forgetting that one of the main points of this, at least for PS4 users, is to be able to play PS3 games on your console.  Last time I checked, the PS3 games you rent or buy on disc won't play in your PS4.

True but that is also saying that most of us got rid of our PS3's which we didn't. If you did this would be somewhat worthwhile but seeing as most of the games will inevitably get remasters I am pretty sure it will flop without the right price point.

I can see this succeeding on Smart TV's and Vita's but not as huge of a market on PS4's.

I have a burning question that I can't find an answer to. I guess it's more of wishful thinking than anything else.

I have a pretty extensive digital collection of PS3 games that I got for free through PS+. If I sign up for PS Now, will my license for those games transfer over?

Also, and this one is a stretch, I have a few PS3 games on disc, will there be a way for the PS4 to at least check the disc that is inserted, verify that it is in fact a PS3 title, which will allow you to stream the digital version of the game through PS Now? You would have to have the disc inserted anytime that you wanted to play it, but this could be a way around the PS4 not natively playing PS3 titles.

The last scenario I see less likely, because it would probably hurt sales figures of digital titles, but I think it would be cool. I hope that at least the first scenario happens.

They have stated that they will not cover previously purchased games. There was discussion about there being a reduced price for previous ownership.

Everything I've read, and Sony's history tell me that there will be rental of a game, and "ownership" of a PS Now game, I don't see the subscription as too possible. BUt during a Q&A interview they said that priceing and terms were under review and would be looked at during the beta.

So beta testers would have a clue on what it might look like.

I'm interested to see how this pans out, but have pretty low expectations this generation for it being more than a way to pay $5-6 to blow through a short game without the hassle of picking up and returning to a Redbox or store (or if it's not available to rent locally).

I'm very interested in a subscription model eventually.  Once internet speed is up, data caps gone or much larger etc. at some future date, I'd rather just pay monthly fees to stream any game, movie or album I want (already have spotify) than bother buying stuff.  I rarely replay games or rewatch movies anymore (despite owning 300+ movies, I do kind of like collecting those though) so streaming stuff is much more up my alley.

The other rental options are too much hassle (I don't like adding errands to my hectic schedule, so I don't rent locally) or not worth the money (I don't often beat enough games a month/year to make Gamefly really worth it).

$5 to rent a streaming version of Uncharted 3?  Yikes, you could just buy a used copy from Amazon and own it forever for about $3 more (including shipping).

I'll probably join this to play the PS3 games I missed out on when I moved onto the PS4 like Gran Turismo 6 and Beyond: Two Souls but that's about it. Mostly Sony exclusives. It almost seems like everybody is bringing their 3rd party PS3/Xbox 360 games to PS4/Xbox One like Tomb Raider, Rayman Legends and (it wouldn't surprise me) Grand Theft Auto V.

I think you are missing the point of the program... How am I going to spend $3 more to play it when my PS4 or Vita does not play it? I think it is the point of it, the two systems can't play the disk so here is your chance to play the game. Have you ever rented a video game that you were unsure of? Redboxed or Blockbuster? This allows us to do that and it also allows people who are new to Playstation the opportunity to play the classics we missed out on.

I think that is a decent price range. I could sell my PS3 for $150 and stream the occasional game I want to play.

Although this PS Now won't be included in PS+, I wonder if the games that were previously free (like Uncharted 3) or even games you paid to download, will be made available to stream for free, ie. if I buy a full downloadable copy of the game for $60 from the PSN store, can I also stream it for free?

Thanks for reiterating the point I made 3 days ago.
