So what was the shard count?

Also, just a shot in the dark, but I'd bet the 350 ladies dude is the former Microsoft exective he had over and showed how kinect failed.

Good show. I agree though with the whole vr thing being years away if anything. Also cheapy you should totally give away that diablo code :p

I don't understand why you would remote play in on a vita just to do the spray painting in Infamous. It's so short and easy. Are you are tilting the controller and holding it like a can of spray paint?

And maybe I'm just too cynical, but I can't help but wonder if Delsin's hat was a last minute change to make him look more Caucasian. I hope not. But concept art showed him with long black hair.

Attack combos would have been a great addition to Infamous.

Regarding the rental talk - Redbox is great at $1.50 or whatever it is for a blu ray.  Wombat, isn't having every channel overly expensive though?  I think renting a movie would be a lot cheaper than paying for all those channels.

Oh and Cheapy, it's mierda, not mierdo ;)

I suppose that's the Japanese, rich businessman's equivalent of Pokemon, got to catch them all.

You can't get away with a bad year when at the end of the year the competition is going to launch 2 new system which suck a majority of the oxygen (dollars) out of the room. People were hungry for new systems, Nintendo had a year head start to try to capitalize on that hunger to "feed" as many of those consumers as possible, and they failed miserably. Now the populace who were hungry for new systems are dining on PS4 and Xbone with little reason to also get the Wii U. In that way the Wii U was the opposite of the Xbox 360 which launched roughly a year ahead of the PS3 and exploded, putting up a headwind against the PS3 (the sky high launch price didn't help) that it took until the 2/3rds mark of the generation for Sony to catch up.

If you think people are going to run out and get ANOTHER new Nintendo system in 2 or 3 years after the slow software support for the WIi U I think you are a little crazy Shipwreck. Nowadays it's not just the software library quality, but the other features that the console provides which are big selling points and Nintendo has always been lacking in those areas (for instance in their online multiplayer infrastructure).

Personally I think Facebook just has too much cash / stock on hand burning a hole in their pocket that they don't know what to do with, after all it wasn't that long ago that they bought that messaging app for $19 billion.

Goat Simulator's launch trailer is rather humorous.

Wombat's comparison (of X1) to Nintendo and Wii U doesn't ring right.  The difference is X1 competes directly with PS4.  Roughly speaking,  most consumers see them as interchangeable and thus lowest price wins.  You can't be $100 more and win that race when you are offering a very similar experience as the other guy.

But the Wii U was never a direct competitor to these consoles.  ...was never going to have the next-gen western AAA franchises.  The Wii U was really an alternative.  A different direction.  A console for a family audience.  For fans.  A console for a different market.  Because of this poor first year sales are not going to be the death knell for it like it would be for an X1.

It can sit on shelves as the "Nintendo" console.   Nintendo isn't going to stop making games for it so poor 1st sales again aren't as much of a problem for it as they would be for an X1.   I don't think pricing is nearly as important of an issue with the Wii U like it is with the X1 because the Wii U doesn't have that direct competitor.  IT isn't like people are saying, 'Well I'm going with a Ps4 because the Wii U is still at $300.  IF Wii U was $250 I'd get it instead.'

So I don't agree Nintendo had to have a great 1st year to stave off the other consoles.  I just don't think they were competing for the same customers per se whether they had a great 1st year or not.  I mean look no further than the Wii.  It sold great.  But it didn't mean the other consoles didn't do well or that Wii owners bought the Wii instead of a 360 or PS3.

NO way Nintendo launches a new console that is essentially a clone of what the other guys are doing.  There isn't room for 3 of those consoles and I don't think Nintendo is going to try and compete directly on price and features.  IT's not in their DNA.

I agree with Cheapie.  Occulus was smart to take the deal because its chances of making money as a next-gen gaming platform are dubious.    My gut says it  will make for a cool tech demo.  But after that, people will be get tired of having a box strapped to their face.  They will get tired of it leaving red marks on their face.  Get tired of the screen moving every time they tilt their head a bit.  and all the cons mentioned on the show as well.  etc etc  The cons will outweigh the pros.

Not to mention you have to buy another  $300+ device in addition to a console or pc.

Sorry cagcast crew, but your comments on virtual reality highlight the fact that game consumption is your forte, and game design should be left to more creative minds.

While it is certainly true that future VR devices have an uphill battle in front of them, any software designer could come up with a plethora of methods for utilizing technology like this effectively. One of the complaints you raised, that VR is inherently a solo experience, is also one of the easiest issues to address. Any device that you would connect a VR headset to normally has another dedicated screen. Two displays means the potential for two concurrent experiences. I anticipate that VR co-op gameplay experiences will be one of the more popular early genres that emerge.

Just to throw out a quick example, I think it would be neat to produce a "diving bell" game. The player wearing the VR headset would be in a diving hard-suit, able to see around themselves through the suit's visor and manipulate its arms, but with limited control over the suit's movement. The player sitting at the PC would have an interface that allows them to navigate the boat on the surface of the water, monitor and maintain the air flow and mixture to the diver, and steer where the suit is propelled. The two players would have to talk to each other constantly to provide each other with information made possible by their differing perspectives. Objectives could range from recovering sunken treasure to repairing undersea communication lines.

And this is just one obvious example. There are any number of ways in which VR could be incorporated into more social gaming experiences. The modern proliferation of easy-to-use technology such as smartphones or tablets could be seen as an impediment. But it is far more constructive to use it as a springboard for experiences that wouldn't have been possible ten years prior.

Whippin' out the Oculus Rift for a quick space fuck. Cheapy, if you didn't accidentally create the BEST slogan for that thing then I don't know if I will buy it.

You guys gave me a different perceptive on VR that I didn't think of. It is very much a solo, isolated experience but then again one could argue that modern gaming in general is a solo, isolated experience also.

Kind of strange that Wombat was very free with Shipwreck's romantic history, but didn't tell us about his own.  Maybe next episode he can nail the number, so to speak.

It was a little weird to blurt out that Ship has only been with his wife, but I guess as long as he doesn't mind, then no harm, no foul. The thing that bothers me is that Wombat somehow had that information. What's even weirder is us talking about it on a message board. But I honestly have nothing else to do.

Brilliant. Making your kid do your grinding. I like it.

Enough about the oculus. Everyone has an opinion on the oculus. I need to hear more about that sweet potato ala mode (mainly if there was brown sugar or cinnamon involved or if it was just naked with the ice cream).

One of my friends got his XB1 for $250 with 3 games off another friend who was sick of it. thats the best xb1 deal ive heard of so far.

I don't know much of anything about stocks but microsoft's has been doing great this year. It was at around $30 per share all last year and it's been around $40 this year. I see them making even more money now that they'll have XP being replaced and office on ipads.

I listened to the show, and thought it was so nit picky of wombat not to like Delsin's hat;  then I played FEZ, and I love the Character but I can't stand the little Hat on his head!

Wombat (maybe Cheapy as well), mentioned their collegiate conquests about 200 episodes ago.

The prospect of games like the "Spacefuck" you joked about is literally the only reason I'm not completely uninterested in VR. Hopefully the Facebook acquisition doesn't interfere with the coming of the Glorious Age of Waifu.

Talking about cola-flavored things - cola-flavored BBQ sauce is ok. I mean, plain old BBQ sauce is better, but the cola one is not bad.

Maybe they see Oculus going the educational or theme park route down the road and want to invest before it would require an even greater cost to acquire?

Am I the only one who noticed that Shipwreck used to be the most reasonable on the crew and now he's the biggest fanboy out of them all? I know this show has been more of an Xbox show that happens to feature multiplat for the longest time, but Shipwreck feels like he goes into full apologist mode sometimes.

Good point about 2 screen gaming possibilities, but talk to Nintendo about how that 2 screen local co-op/asynchronous gaming is working.

And this doesn't address the con of not being able to see the person you're next to.

I was sick of the Wii-mote about 7 weeks in (years ago). I tried to use it sideways for Donkey Kong Country Returns (that was the only option, required waggle to jump/slap/stomp/roll or whatever) and just had to stop mid way through the game, not comfortable.

I had and used GC controllers for Smash, and the Pro for everything else I could, like Monster Hunter Tri.

Now you are telling me I get to use the Wii-mote again all these years later on a brand new system while one person gets the Pad? No thanks.

CheapyD,

Your friend sounds like a real douche bag.  Wombat is right about the guy taking advantage of girls, no matter how you like to spin it.  What did your wife say about the guy when you told her about it?

Also, if he wasn't proud of it, why would he keep record of it.  Why would he tell you about it.

I'll tell you why - he is a douche.

No...unfortunately I noticed that too.

I noticed he likes stuff that he likes too.
Nothing wrong with that, like whatever you want.I listen to the show to hear your opinion after all. I would just suggest maybe a more open mind to things. It seems like you hated Infamous before you even played it man.

HUGE fan of you guys btw. Just a suggestion, either way ill keep listening like I always have.

Like Michael Jordan used to say, it's not really summer CAGcast until you have your Ball Park Wombat's kids crying in the background.

So with 'Space fuck' and the Rape Owls comic idea that Cheapy came up with I have to think that he captured the one great idea that became cheapassgamer.com and all the rest escaped his head because he didn't have any hair to hold the ideas in.

I'm not sure what this has to do with the 2 screen gaming not being a huge hit post that I made.

But if he combined those two ideas, he could have an Oculus system seller
