Advice needed on the Splinter Cell series

CAGiversary!
For you Splinter Cell experts, I want to know a little about the series while avoiding spoilers. I'm having trouble at the end of mission 7
at the end where you get ambushed and stealth is thrown out the window
It's making me want to quit at this point as I'm really not having fun. I've read that things change a good bit from SC1 to Chaos Theory. Is this true, and would I miss anything important if I skip straight to it? Looking for opinions and suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Chaos Theory is generally regarded as the best game in the series by fans, and if not that, still leagues above the first two games. It provides you with a lot more options, less-strict alarm-based gameplay, and is overall a lot more polished and "full". A lot of people just start there; the only downside to skipping to CT would be that Splinter Cell and Pandora Tomorrow are pretty tough to go back to afterward.

I've done a little reading and read that in Pandora Tomorrow, alarms are raised literally as soon as you're spotted, even if it's because you were elbowing the guy in the face. Is this true? If so I'll probably definitely skip it. Any advice on how to get past the aforementioned part of mission 7 in SC1? I've tried placing wall mines to set traps, but still can't quite get past it.

Just stay tough and play defensively. Use the fences or pens or whatever they are to duck behind and burst fire the machine gun when dudes clump together. It's tough, but not unwinable.

I may just have to replay the whole mission if I go back to it. I quick-saved before that part, and had no medkits and only 30 rounds of ammo, with no alternate ammo types at all. I had 2 wall mines, that was about it.
