I know this is a video game forum, and this corner of the site as a whole is pretty dark, but I'd like to ask if there's anyone else here who's been following the new Android smartphone that recently launched from the tech startup company OnePlus, the One.
For those who aren't familiar, it's an amazingly affordable smartphone that boasts specs similar to and/or often better than those of other flagship devices. The big hype about this device is not only attributed to its affordability $299 (16 GB) / $349 (64 GB), but also very largely attributed to its inclusion of CyanogenMod 11S, an exclusive version of the widely popular custom ROM for Android.
If you haven't heard of it, you may be asking yourself, what's so different about this device that you'd feel the need to create a thread about it? You may or may not have heard about the single major factor that's currently limiting the availability of the device (aside from short supply at the moment), the invite system. OnePlus decided to approach the marketing and sale of this device in a way that they could gain mass appeal (by creating enormous hype through social media, word of mouth, etc.) alongside limiting the amount of devices being sold, thus creating a "holy grail"-type appeal to the device.
This has proven to be both very rewarding for the company, but also generated a lot of frustration and grief in the process.
To start, I'd just like to ask those of you who have been/are interested in continuing this thread/discussion to post/comment so I can get a head count to see if it's worth taking the additional time to keep this thread updated/maintained. Having said that, I will update this post with further information about the device if there is sufficient interest across the forum.
(Note: As an aside, I'm not entirely sure what sort of attention this may attract (given the massive following that they've amassed in the past few months), but please feel free to delete this thread if you feel it's necessary (assuming I haven't done so, if things get out of control).)
