With a 3 yr old daughter I don't have as much time for my PS3.

I'd like to jump in the world of portable gaming.

I can't make up my mind.

I'm thinking about picking up the Borderlands vita bundle or the Super Smash 3DS bundle.

Advantages: Super Smash Brothers, Pokemon and the first party Nintendo games for 3ds

I'm PS+ so there is the free and cheap games. I'm a Cheap Ass gamer.

I like fighting and RPG's.

I just got the borderlands bundle and I'm enjoying it, but I've never been a fan of the Nintendo games as others are. If you get the vita, frys.com throws in the God of war games for free right now.

I play with my 3DS way more than the vita. The 3DS has a much better library of games while there isn't a whole lot going on for the vita. Also, the memory cards for the vita are outrageously overpriced. Even with PSN+, its a bitch to have to deal with storage.

Vita for sure, it is a great system. Very sexy design and interface IMO that makes you feel like you have a portable PS3. The screen is amazing and there are certain games that pop on it and impress me as much as anything I have seen visually (Rayman, I am looking at right at you, you armless and legless beautiful freak). It is also a slam dunk for anyone that already has, or is interested in, PS Plus.

3DS is a great system too, and well worth owning. Tons of good games, spanning many different genres, that make it as much of a 'must own' as its predecessor, the original DS. Like mentioned, I would either wait for the new 3DS XL or I would go the complete opposite and pick up a 2DS dirt cheap if you're really not wowed by the 3D portion.

I feel like it's better to just wait at this point, regardless of how much you want a new system.

The Vita is clearly not doing well. People will say there are plenty of games for it, including tons of PSN-only games and the fact that you can play old games on it, etc. While that may be true, I just don't see the same level of dedication to the system Sony gave the PSP. The PSP ended up being worth it thanks a solid library of niche games and JRPGs, but at this point and time, there's no saying the Vita will have a similar level of support in the long run. Plus, the prices of memory cards are a fucking joke.

The 3DS has a great library, but I question Nintendo's decision to release a slightly better version, especially since it'll have exclusive games on it which will not work on the original 3DSes. I can't help but feel that Nintendo is going to try to use the new 3DS to double dip on sales. Sure you don't have to buy it, but Nintendo will probably begin making more and more games new 3DS only.

Absolutely, positively the 3DS.  One reason, game selection.

I LOVE my Vita, so don't get me wrong.  I take it with me most days.  But, you aren't going to play many non-indie or old games on it.  If you have a Vita and do not have PS Plus and at least a 16GB memory card, you are not doing it right.  That way you get some new content (some good, like Velocity; some bad) but you aren't "put out" and the inconsistent quality.  You download this month's games, play them a few times then delete them if they suck.

But, in the end, if you don't have a PS3/4 to share that Plus subscription with it really isn't worth it.

The 3DS, on the other hand, has had some really great games on it.  You can be sure it is going to get a lot more of them too, given how many of them are out there and Nintendo which likes to squeeze a lot out of them.  Nintendo will make sure you have content in the future, Sony is kind of riding the fence ont eh Vita.  I'm not so certain how "important" the new version will be.  The second stick won't be supported too much since it fractures the base and the extra processing power will be mostly unused (like the DSi extra power).

Spent time today having this same discussion with a friend, he suggested I go with the Vita, mainly due to its compatibility with the PS4, its  storage ability, and also because 3DS isn't as powerful a system...he was also mentioned nintendo's shorter selection of games.

Ps vita is not doing well. the lack of titles is whats killing it. The only good use for me right now for the vita is remote play. Ill probably wait again for a special bundle for the new 3ds. Im still rocking my really limited edition pikachu xl. Hehe!

Those two advantages seem highly questionable.

Yes, the Vita supports more storage (32GB vs 64GB) but it's at an astronomical cost. You can get a 32GB SD card for under $20, a 32GB Vita memory card costs $60.

As for "shorter selection of games", I don't really see how he could said that unless you're talking about a specific genre.

3ds....I like the vita and would like to tell you get it but honestly the 3ds is the better choice, more games and better support from developers.

I have both vita  and 3ds and I think  vita is better in every way aside from the number of titles.

If you like fighting games, go with the Vita. It has more quality fighting games on it than the 3DS has. Games like:

Street Fighter X Tekken: DLC issues aside, fun game with a good port and an added solo mode just for Vita.

Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Near-perfect portable version.

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend: Almost indistinguishable from the home version.

BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma: Not too far off from what I said about CS Extend.

Dead Or Alive 5 Plus: One of my personal favorites. The only knock against it is that it's an outdated version of DOA5.

Injustice: Ultimate Edition: Graphics take a hit, but what I've played of it has been enjoyable.

Mortal Kombat: Graphics take an even bigger hit. Still plays well, though.

Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core Plus R: Solid port, aside from no online play.

PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale: Good Smash Bros.-like game.

And then you've got the various PSP and PS1 fighting games, like Street Fighter Alpha 3, Tekken 6, DarkStalkers, Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny.

As far as RPGs go, Vita has Persona 4: Golden, one of the best RPGs of all-time. It cannot be overstated how good P4:G is.

Hope this helps!

You're definitely making some great points, I'm personally leaning towards the 3DS, just because I really like nintendo's original content.

New 3DS. Smash Bros, Pokemon, Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton, Shantae, Fire Emblem, Legend of Zelda, Tomodachi Life, Project X Zone, Xenoblade Chronicles, Gunvolt, and Mario Kart. Plus another couple dozen games I didn't mention plus StreetPass.

Gotta go 3ds as well. The vita is a great system and I'm glad I own one but the support just isn't there for it and I suspect it'll only get worse.
