Did you see this, did you hear about this? [/leno]

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-switch/wp/2014/11/25/the-ftc-says-sony-lied-about-how-innovative-the-ps-vita-is/

Sony recently settled with the FTC over a complaint about some of the Vita's launch-era advertising for features that did not perform as promoted, namely the PS3-Vita cross-platform functions. The FTC also filed a complaint against the Vita's advertrising agency for erroneously using the hashtag "#gamechanger", striking a serious blow to people who love to tweet over-used, hyperbolic words.

What does that mean for you? Well, if you bought a Vita before June 2012, you should soon be recieving an email from Sony offering you either $25 in cash/credit, or $50 towards a select game.

I bought a Vita at launch, and didn't even notice any of this shit, but I'll gladly take a credit if they are offering it.

Score. I was buying no matter what the ad said. I wasn't buying it due to an ad and I'm sure most early adopters are like this.

Of all the other many more flagrant and obvious similar lies made in electronic entertainment, this is the one that ends up costing a company. Whatever. I bought early, the week after launch, and traded a year later. Not holding my breath until I see an email, though.

subscribing for any updates. I was a Day-One adopter, maybe kept the thing 6 months. just didn't really see it making any progress, and figured I'd cut my losses while I could still get a decent amount for it...

Because it's a court order I don't know if Sony can really be stingy with this. If you registered the console back in the day then they have a record of that.

Either way I think you should have kept your Vita. I am a day one Vita owner and a day one 3ds owner. I haven't turned on my 3ds in like 10 months. I play my Vita every day, the screen is so awesome and the back catalog, along with PS Now is amazing. Maybe when the new 3ds gets out of Japan I'll have to reassess but right now my preference is the OLED, dual sticks with the huge gaming catalog stretching all the way back to my childhood. Plus remote play of my PS4 while in bed is @#$&'in checkmate for me.

Ok so according to the article, it would have to have been bought by the end of June 2012.
Judging by the poor initial sales, not many people bought it in those first 5 months.

If you read the FTC statement, they are allowing public comments for 30 days before final judgement on everything on December 29th.  I am sure sometime in early January those of that were early adopters (day one purchase here) will get notified.

I'd love to see the $50 "merchandise" credit allowed to be PSN credit and not just toward something on the Sony Store.  I guess another year of PS+ couldn't hurt for free.

So any word on how we're going to be contacted? Email I assume? I'm hoping it's $50 that can be put towards PS+, I'd be happy with that resolution.

It is slated to be via email according to the settlement.

I am interested in what the select $50 worth of merchandise/video games will be. Wouldn't mind using that toward some items on the Sony store.

Just got the e-mail, can't remember my login...once I do it sounds like they will give more detail on the $50 (or more) merchandise. I'm thinking a newer game or some sort.

That site seems sketchy as fuck.
Oh yeah, you're telling me...I had to load it in IE just to get it to render properly. Going to wait for confirmation before requesting lost password. That being said, it's kind of reassuring that you apparently received the same e-mail?

A ton of people did. There's at least 1 GameFaq thread on it, a thread on PS Community. Everyone agrees it is sketchy, no one knows how to log in.

Apparently, the sqemail or whatever it is was also used when Apple and another group were contacting people, so that part seems legit-ish at least. The rest, not so much.

I qualify and I got the email but I can't figure out how to log in either. Is it an FTC account, is it tied to our PSN?

No one knows, but until the site is verified and we know how to log in, I suggest you don't try logging in with any accounts/passwords that you care to keep secure.

Yeah, I got the email too, no clue what my login should be though, and the retrieve password link doesn't appear to work, at least not in Chrome.

When I used IE it let me accept a different certificate which let that window appear as it should. It asks for a username, then has a 'retrieve password' button.

Can't seem to get it working on firefox or chrome though.

Almost everyone I know is taking the credit (the games suck) but I think I will take the check. I'd take the credit if you got it instantly, but seeing as how you have to wait until the end of the redemption period either way I'd rather have the flexibility of money.

Yeah, the options for games are dumb. The games are largely good games, but I'm pretty sure just about everyone who wants them has them. Puppeteer seemed like the newest one of the bunch, and I'm pretty sure even that one came out in 2013.

I'll probably go with credit, but mostly because while I did buy my Vita in time to qualify, and I did think it would be a better console than it has been, I love my Vita. So while I will take Sony's $25, I'll take it in the form that costs them the least because I don't regret my purchase even if they did misrepresent the product.

Probably going to put mine towards renewing PS+, or on-sale games (when we get the credit). Seeing as how I'm in Canada now, getting the check would be a bit more difficult.

Got the email too, but it went to my spam folder.  For anyone else who didn't get it, check your spam folder, it might be there.

I'll just opt for $25 PSN credit, will be a nice added credit to my account.

anybody else still not get an email? I've looked all throughout my Spam folder, and nothing. what email address did you guys receive this from?

When should we get the credit anyways?
Settlement form says that we'll get it at the end of the form collection period, so either by June 30th or shortly after June 30th. Hope it coincides well with Mortal Kombat X coming out for PS3 so I can download the DLC. :)

I did not automatically receive the email for the offer, so around the middle of June I sent out a USPS package with the completed claim form and the side panel of my Vita packaging showing the identifying info for my device.  I opted to receive one of the merchandise vouchers.

Anyone else who physically sent in proof of purchase receive any response yet?  I'm still waiting to hear something back.

I sent mine in physically and haven't heard a thing
