What Router Are You Using?

I decided to upgrade my router on Black Friday since I've had my Linksys WRT54GS model for several years now. Target cartwheel had a deal on a Netgear router so I picked up the N600 model for like $40, finally got around to hooking it up today and the damn thing keeps dropping signals left and right. Everytime I tried to install DLC or a game on X1 tonight it kept stopping installation. So now I have my Linksys hooked back up. I was wondering if fellow CAGs could recommend a stable router.

The Nighthawk R7000. Love it.

Saw those on sale for $169 on Black Friday. How long have you been using it?
A few months. Haven't had any issues with dropped signals and the range is far better than my previous router. I can now get signal everywhere in my house. It has two settings that prioritize online gaming and streaming, although I haven't used it.

Wired >>>>> Wireless for reliability.  While it is getting better each year, wireless is merely for convenience.  Want to guarantee a connection and speed, go wired and your router probably will not matter as long as it works.

There are still a lot of items that can interfere with the the 2.4 range.  The 5Ghz range is far less congested but no current console supports that.

Ethernet to wireless bridge would certainly support a 5Ghz wireless connection. It's an added item to deal with, though it would take care of that issue.

How long of a cable is too long?

Unless you're going more than 100', you should be fine without needing a switch in the middle. The specs for Ethernet say 100 meters / 300 ft without needing a switch to keep the signal from degrading, though I can't imaging you would need something longer than 100' in the average apartment/house.
