Transformers Cartoon on Blu-ray?

Are they gonna make Transformers cartoon complete collection into Blu-ray? Have anyone heard?
Why?

That would not be a good idea. The DVD releases are the best you can hope for. Yes I know there are a number of old tv cartoons that are being moved to blu ray but the results are all over the place.

Sailor Moon is an example of bad transfer.

The source footage is the key...if the film has not been properly kept all these years it's going to be a big problem.

The only transformers series on blu-ray is Transformers Prime.  Even animated only got a release on DVD when it was re-released.  (too bad, too, in my opinion)

I don't think comparing the Transformers series from the 80s (G1!) to Transformers Prime is a fair comparison when discussing home video releases for a number of reasons.

I'm pointing that out because Shout only releases things on blu-ray when they feel there's a need for it.  (and when I said animated I meant the series from the late 2000's)

Yeah, Japan is supposed to get a release pretty soon but it's by Toei (same company that has the Sailor Moon masters) and they've said they're just going to upscale stuff so it won't be actual HD (same as Sailor Moon).

Just wanted to jump in here before someone calls the cops on us for loitering...

I often hear how older TV shows wouldn't make the jump to blu-ray often, but don't quite understand why. Is it because the transfers would be worse than DVD versions or just not better than DVD releases? Or something different.

Since the emergence of blu-ray, there has been something I've wanted to see. I'd love for some shows to be released in bare-bone editions where they cram as many episodes as the can on to a minimal amount of discs. I wouldn't particularly care about the P/Q on these (as much as films) so wouldn't mind them being not better than DVD.
There are a number of series that I would like to have blu-ray sets of like this. Imagine the complete MASH (sans laugh track) on 5 disks or something.

Many older TV shows would make the jump to Blu Ray perfectly fine as they were shot on film, not video. You also have the issue of shows that were shot on film but may contain components that were shot on video. Star Trek The Next Generation is a good example of this. The show itself was shot on film but the vfx were done in analog video. ST:TNG is a pretty popular show which is why CBS took the time to upgrade the effects for Blu Ray but most studios probably wouldn't do that, especially since there are so many people who don't see a huge difference between formats and are sticking with DVD.

Why?

So you don't think it will make even at least 10% difference better if it was in Blu-ray?

A lot of SD movies/ cartoons look 100% if not 500% times better when it's viewed in HD... I realize this is an old series, but NOT even 10% better?

I played the DVD's on a ps3 and the ps3 upscales the DVD's really well. It was almost HD except for combing and jagged edges it looked really good. The Original DVD masters were pretty pristine. Unless they clean it up like Disney like a real HD master then just upscaling it on bluray would be a marginal improvement.

It has nothing to do with picture quality upgrades, it's spending the money making it not suck vs how popular the show would be that people would be willing to spend the extra $10-$20 on the show. Consider that 90% of classic shows and cartoons on DVD can be had for under $15 new, many under $10, especially those released through budget companies like Mill Creek.

Also, said Blu-rays would be sold exclusively online or in specialty shops like MovieStop and FYE. Bixby box stores like Walmart, Best Buy, and Target would only carry it on release week and never restock, thus limiting their sales.

Maybe in a decade when DVDs stop being the dominant media, but not anytime soon.
