Asking on a few forums, figure i should ask here too since theres a lot of gamers here. Hopefully i can get some good opinions and thoughts on this. Im building a system and was going to grab another monitor in a month or two, unfortunately one of the choices i was looking at is on a pretty big sale right now. Heres the rundown:

I already have an asus VG248QE. Its ok, the 144hz is nice, but its a TN pannel. After using an IPS for a while its hard to go back to a TN =P I figured id keep this for FPS gaming and stuff that requires fast motion/response time, and get an IPS for MMO gaming, browsing, ect. I really liked the viewsonic i used for a while when setting up my sisters computer. It has a 'native' color selection setting that looks pretty good without me having to go in and mess with RGB for hours and hours with my OCD. I WAS just going to get the Viewsonic vx2770smh since its the big brother of the one i was using, but some people were saying i should maybe look at a 1440 monitor. That brought me to the BenQ GW2765HT. I was looking at reviews when i noticed its on sale for about $340 right now. Considering the Viewsonic is about $250 or so thats not that big of a price difference. I was expecting to pay over $450 dollars.

First lemme give you my system specs:

Do i need/want a 1440 monitor? Honestly im not sure if i will notice a difference between 1080p and 1440 at 27". Also, im wondering if my build will still be able to run games at max settings on 1440 rez. Can that cpu/gfx card run 1440 with no issue and still max settings or will i have to compromise some of the settings to get high framerates? I was going to be doing a dual monitor setup with both the new one and the Asus hooked up at the same time with me just switching back and forth as needed. Would having one set to 1440 and one to 1080p cause any issues in switching back and forth from the desktop? Would having both be 1080p be a better bet? I would think at the very least it would cause problems with the desktop wallpaper and stuff like that.

Really need some opinions/feedback on this because if i go for the benq i should get it soon. I have no idea how long the sale is going for. One other thing that worries me is i know the viewsonic looks good. I havent seen the BenQ in person. Im susceptible to monitor glow and really wanted to see how bad it was on the BenQ before buying it blind. I really wanted to look at the color/menu options too

What do you guys think?

I've heard only good gaming things out of a BenQ. I'm not sure about Viewsonic in general. I've only had those monitors, and I haven't replaced the one I'm using in five years, and I've done a lot with it too!

Benq's are awesome for gaming. A couple years back I took the gamble on a 27" 1440 korean ips monitor (achievia shimian). It has a 5ms response time so i thought i would see ghosting on fps games. I've never seen ghosting (mine has an lg panel). Read about the korean ips monitors if your interested in cheaper monitors. Gaming is a mixed bag on 1440. I have a gigabyte amd 280x which is slower then the card your looking at and I can get close to max settings on most games I play. AA you really don't notice when the resolution is at 1440. At least compared to 1080.Frame rate is usually between 30 and 60 which I'm fine with.

Most korean monitors are 60hz but a lot overclock to 80+. Mine I leave at 60 and don't have any problems. But My gaming is mixed between xbox one, pc, 3ds, and wii u. So pc graphics always look better for me. If your a graphics whore and want all games to always run at the highest settings your going to be buying a new top end video card every 18 months (atleast $600)

Here is a link for a review of some of the current korean monitors.

If you're at that level of GPU (and usually stay at the high end) then, yes, it's certainly worth getting a BenQ for 1440p.

I've got the Ben Q monitor. I've noticed there are not many reviews out for it, so let me know if you have any specific questions.

1440p makes a huge difference in terms of screan real estate, it makes the extra 3 inches feel like 10 inches. The monitor looked terrible out of the box. It haded hue and overly contrasted images, but looks great after a simple calibration. Text and images are sharp, even at this screen size and colors pop out very nicely. Loaded up skyrim in 1440p and it was glorious. The stand is well made and the swivel and tilt features are easy to use.

I'd recommend this monitor. I got it for $340 from Adorama

thanks guys. I guess i waited too long its back up to almost $500. I'll probably wait because it sounds like a 1440 would work good with my card. One thing im still concerned about though: would switching between 1440 and 1080 (1080 on the TN 1440 on ips) cause issues? I mean on the desktop. Would it mess with my wallpaper or cause any other quirks/problems switching on the fly?

The 980 will be solid. I have have a 280x overclocked and get 60 fps + on skyrim ultra settings in 1440p. (Grabbed the new Gigabyte G1 970 for Christmas :D)

As far as the two desktop question, it's probably best to use them as exactly that; two desktops. Stretching any wallpapers across the two is going to look funky and you wont be able to game unless you run at 1080p on your ips and cap the frames on your tn panel.

But that's the trade off, unless you want to get the Asus ROG and have 1440p and 144hz....and a sad bank account haha

Oh and by the way, I've heard more bad than good on the Viewsonic Monitors.

I just bought the ROG Swift and can confirm a sad bank account. :p

It's so worth the asking price if you can swing it though, no screen tearing or stuttering, gorgeous 1440p 27" panel, 1ms response, and the 144hz refresh rate is just icing imo.
