Sony has officially scrapped Movie interview was post to come out December 25th

oh and btw... they didn't scrap the movie.  It's done and ready for release.  they are most likely either delaying it for a few months til things quite down or going to spend millions to retool the movie and release it late next year.

Can it go straight to blu-ray
Right now they are saying they have no plans to release it at all. It sets a horrible precedent.

The Sony hack and subsequent threats to attack theaters showing the movie are acts of terrorism. We essentially just buckled to the demands of terrorists. What's to stop the same group now from getting more "demands" met. It's just really really bad.

Cept all the free screenings around the country of Team America got cancelled too.

Now wut ?

Isn't America's motto not to negotiate with terrorists? We lost the towers in New York to an extremist group. A nation that practically has eyes on them and weapons with hair triggers aimed at them from every direction shouldn't be in a spot to threaten or dictate the actions of others. Other nations have proven that they will not let terrorism ruin them. Someone else pointed out that when the buses got bombed, they were back up and running a few hours later. Same for a cafe that got bombed, they were serving drinks and whatnot not long after the attack.

Meanwhile, what do we have here? Just a movie? A parody, at that? It isn't a fucking life's story of a realistic character. It's a parody! Meaning it's A COMEDIC TAKE ON SOMETHING REAL TO FANTASIZE IT UP! (disclaimer that this is not actual Webster-Merriam definition) Team America: World Police is in the same boat, but where was this scrutiny when it released? Oh, right. 2004...North Korea likely didn't hear of the internet by then (now THAT was a joke). Meanwhile, ten years later...North Korea didn't necessarily threaten us YET if we had shown Team America. That was our doing (our = those who dared not take the chance of bringing harm to our people).

Look, the point of my small rant is...America has freedoms. And these freedoms are being dictated and threatened against by an enemy. It will always continue to happen. And now...those freedoms are in danger. I'll watch the Interview for the heck of it, maybe a laugh...but it likely won't be a good movie. Team America? I'll make it an annual flick cause I can. Plus...Matt Damon.

^ well it's the US government that doesn't deal with terrorists (although Obama did negotiate recently with terrorists) not companies themselves. Obama's statement on the theater threats was "go to the movies". Those threats weren't credible. Sony is just so panicked their execs are afraid to use email now. Reportedly some have gone back to faxing.

Well, the damage has been done. How much stuff leaked out already PRIOR to Sony making the decision? And you are right. This is still a corporation at war with a hacker group. But it is also setting a dangerous precedent. The hackers now are wanting ALL instances of the Interview expunged from the world. Trailers, screenshots, posters/pictures...which is IMPOSSIBLE. If Sony doesn't do it, then the content will get released. If Sony managed the impossible and did it, the hackers have that content...for however long it serves their needs. They can still release it and be dicks about it cause they can. Either way, it's a lose-lose situation.

Great quote from George R. R, Martin:

GRRM says "it's a good thing these guys weren't around when Charlie Chaplin made The Great Dictator. If Kim Jong-Un scares them, Adolf Hitler would have had them shitting in their smallclothes."

He also offers up his own cinema to do screenings of The Interview.

LA theater offers to screen the movie as well:

If GRRM has the balls to show the movie, then all the power to him.

Anyone's theater showing it near them?

Got a couple somewhat close but the Indy theater in Raleigh isn't at least right now.

On mobile or I'd go pull a link buy variety had a list of theaters showing it.

It made $15 million in Internet sales/rentals, which is the highest ever for a movie on its opening.  Added in $5 million from theater sales, so it made around $20 million over the weekend.

Not too bad, all told.  I think that's what Sony was hoping for as a full theater release, so they managed it just with different means.
