Cheap Movie Editing software?

So, I am looking to create some cheap musical slideshow videos, is there a decent free or cheap video editing software out there I can get? I don't need bells and whistles or anything like that, just dump some pictures in, add some text, lay a music track, then save it to a movie file.

If you're just looking for no frills, free, and easy, try Microsoft Photo Story, assuming you're running windows.  My mom used it a few times a few years ago.

If you mean the default Movie Maker, I tried that one. For some reason, I cannot drop any images whatsoever in there.
