That's fine, it's just opinion, but it's a divisive game and anyone thinking about buying it should probably know that.

I also replayed RE4 shortly beforehand, so it seemed even more disappointing. I would recommend Shadows of the Damned over TWE any day of the week, but its surrealism didn't jive with some folks.

Are you on meth? TEW is great

I could also ask if you took too many chair shots from Dean Ambrose, but I won't. You can like it if you want. Mikami's gotta eat.

Any chance next week that Best Buy runs that promotion for trading in an Xbox 360 for $100 and then getting an extra $50 if you put it towards an Xbox One? Or is this promotion pretty much dead and not coming back?

I know this is a weird question but on a scale of 1-10, how scary is the Evil Within? Thinking of buying it for my 16 year old cousin.

Kids don't appreciate games that aren't mainstream so don't bother. But it's really only scary till chapter 5 cause by then you're leveled up properly and have a lot more ammo

Hmmm, I seriously doubt that Best Buy is going to add $70 in credit for a second Xbox 360 controller. Why would they give me or anyone that much just for a second controller?

Both my kids are fans of the undead/horror movies, we're about to fire the PS4 up and play together right now.  TEW is the first game my 13 y/o daughter's gotten into in about 3 years (and with boys on the horizon, probably the last for a while  Fuck :( )

I would say out of 10, maybe a 7 because most of the scary parts are "surprise scares" where something comes out of nowhere and the anticipation/rumble of the controller gets me.  Fun game though.

It resets on your start date. If you joined GCU on July 4th then your counter will reset on July 4th.

The Evil Within is an 8.5/10 in my opinion. Not perfect but easily the best survival action horror game since RE 4. Music alone is a perfect 10/10 in my opinion. Gameplay is good and I loved the added stealth element. Anyone who enjoyed old school RE and/or RE 4 should enjoy The Evil Within.

RE4 is not Survival Horror.  Almost nothing about that game is scary.  It's more action to me.  If you said Code Veronica or before than ok, we're talking about Survival Horror.  If not that, then Silent Hill, Siren, etc.  Even though it's more action, "The Suffering" felt Survival Horror.

I tried a bit of it and the weird techno vibe with that warping guy really turned me off.  I didn't play too far but what I did play felt like two completely different games mashed together.

Also the bars, no...just no.  They were originally done in RE 4 because many people still didn't have wide screen TV's and they wanted it to be no matter what.  Nowadays it's just silly.

I said survival action horror. RE 4 was more action based than horror based but it was still a classic and reinvented the series. Shame that RE 5 and RE 6 are average in comparison.

Of course, the old school RE games are survival horror but let's be honest, I was never scared or terrified by anything in any of those old school RE games. None of the games are scary and how can they be, we're all in our 20's and 30's. Would be kind of sad if we were to get scared by a video game.

As for The Evil Within, it's still the best survival action horror game since RE 4. A few chapters near the end should have been different and repeating bosses were a negative but considering the limited budget that Mikami had, I would say that the game is excellent and 2014's survival action horror game of the year by far. Hoping for a sequel.

I Recommend playing PT in the wee hours of morning in a all dark room.

The game is crazy scary. can't wait to see the full version.

I didn't like TEW. Admittedly, I've never been a horror/survival person, but the game just didn't impress me. I was into the fifth chapter when I went ahead and traded it in to get something else. The gameplay was pretty slowly paced, which isn't terrible on its own. However, their style of forcing death on your as a game mechanic, paired with the slow gameplay, made it really irritating when you had to take the required death to learn fight mechanics, then spend 10-20 minutes getting back to the encounter that's actually challenging. The story never got to a point of being interesting, or even meaningful, in that one-third of the game. It was just a slow, redundant grind for me.

Not to say the game's terrible, it just not one I cared for.

Well, I'm not too proud to admit it. Acutally, I am proud to admit it. I was scared of the first Silent Hill game. I quit the game twice and deleted the data because I didn't want to keep going. Once after entering the town's Dark World, and once after the school. But I loved the game so much and loved the feeling that I went through it and relished the fear on the third time. One of my all-time favorite games.
