How companies can't stop ddos attacks is beyond me...especially when we all knew it was coming
For services like Xbox Live and PS+, ddos attacks are actually very difficult to stop as the systems are set up to let the average user log on and connect with other people. Distinguishing the connections that are legitimate from the connections that are from the attack is not easy at all. Anyone suggesting otherwise simply doesn't understand the complexities involved with something like this, especially for services like Xbox Live and PS+.
If people honestly believe that Sony and MS would just let a ddos attack happen, especially on a day like Xmas or during the holidays in general, when it was just some simple thing to stop.....well, those people are living in la la land. The reason they couldn't prevent it, even when the hackers stated they were going to do it, is because its a very difficult thing to do, even for companies like MS and Sony. It would take a sizable investment to be able to fully prevent these kinds of attacks and clearly at this point, neither company deems that investment worthwhile. Maybe that will change in the future.
