(1/1): My goal for the year is the same as the last three (2012, 2013, 2014): 40 completed games.

Also, as is my own tradition, I collect my other general media consumption towards the bottom of this post.

(6/14): I don't count them as finished games, but I did get to play Star Fox Zero in the Arwing simulator and Blastball and most of Nintendo's other new games at E3 this year. The angry-but-hasn't-played-anything-yet internet doesn't know what it's talking about. For all their buzzing, Nintendo's booth was by far the busiest all week.

(7/8): It would appear, that like half of the users in this thread, I've forgotten about this thread, but like half of those folks, what I've actually done is not really play many games this year, and what I have played has been nigh-endless phone stuff. Instead, I've already done more standup and watched more movies this year than all of last year. 

(12/27): I didn't do a great job of keeping up with this post this year, probably because I didn't do a great job of playing games this year. Nonetheless, the story continues in 2016!

 

January (1):

 - Step buy step - I like the idea of these games that use pedometer data, and especially since this one appears to combine that with a incrementing game. The Layton-like artwork was nice. Super short though, just a couple days' diversion.  3/5

 

March (1): 

- Counterspy - A PSPlus freebie. Lasted a few sittings, mostly fun spy stuff. Finished the story but didn't play through it all again to max out the weapons. 3/5

 

July (1):

- Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds - This was great! At first being in a remix of Link to the Past (my favorite, I think) felt weird - going to roughly the same places, doing approximately the same things, but for different reasons, but after grabbing the Master Sword things got reasonably different. I found all the Maiamai, ignored a few pieces of heart that were based on elaborate minigames, and by a fluke, missed the final armor. I'm happy they tried new things here, and the main wall merge mechanic was cool, but I think I prefer gaining the items from their dungeons in order. I'm pretty sure I completed all the treasure dungeons, but it was always disappointing to only get rupees from them. I had plenty of rupees. Maxed out rupees. Oh, and some of the side-story bits with no quests attached, that was new to me in a Zelda game, I think. Poor shopkeep.  5/5

 

August (1): 

 - Fantasy Life - Officially I beat this one, since I've completed the story and seen the credits on the base game and the expansion pack, but I'm still multi-classing around and although as of (10/8) I haven't played for at least a month, I'd really like to max out my lives. I'm 87 hours in and Master or Hero on almost all lives.

 

September (3):

 - Lost Souls: Enchanted Paintings - I picked up a bunch of iPad adventure games when they were free at Christmas time, so I made a goal of playing a few just so I could delete them and reclaim the space. I skipped every part of the story in this, and it was still basically fine until I hit the 'deluxe edition' paywall. 2/5

 - Nightmares from the Deep 2: The Siren's Call - Expected this to be more of the same, but there was rather more plot involved. Totally worth the price of free, and more importantly, now that I'm finished with it, its deleted! 4/5

 - Lifeline - This was pretty interesting on my first play through, but I made the mistake of taking a second run at it to see what else I might have missed, and revealed that the story was way more linear than I'd suspected on one pass. 3/5

 

November (2):

 - The Room Three - I think these are the best games of their kind being made today, but even so I enjoy each entry just a little bit less than the one before. The simplicity and wonder of the original has given way to an almost MYST-like experience of wandering through a big empty space solving different mechanics. The tactile experience is still a treat though, and I hope to one day play a VR installment in the series. 4/5

 

- The Stanley Parable - I started with the demo then moved on to the main game, which was as fun and funny as I'd heard. I racked up most of the endings on my own without a guide, then followed a FAQ for the last couple like the cheats room and the weird off limits tower thing. 5/5

 

 

December:

- Her Story - Fun concept for a game, capitalizing on the inherently low quality of FMV. I liked working out my version of what happened in the story, but slightly regret grinding out the last few videos just to get an achievement. 4/5

- Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes - This was great. I've never played a game like this before, and both sides of the gameplay were a lot of fun. We completed everything except for a couple of the exotic bombs. 5/5

I also had a couple of games that I did beat, by which I mean I completed the story and saw the credits, but I resisted logging because I told myself I wasn't done with everything the game had to offer - finishing achievements, doing optional side levels, etc. But then I stopped playing them. So to bolster my numbers, I'll claim SKY FORCE 2014 and THE TROUBLE WITH ROBOTS as finished.

- Hook - Short and sweet. Kind of a logic puzzle, and because of the way it resembles schematic diagrams, it felt a little bit like defusing bombs - pull out this wire then this wire then this wire. (I feel like there should be a steam icon. I played this and every other ' ' game this year on a mac, but I save  for iOS games.) 4/5

This actually encourages me to clear out more of my backlog.
I completed 63 games in 2013, which was a total freak year for my gaming. In 2014, I fell quite a bit short of my 25 game goal with only 17 games.

I have adjusted my game goal this year. As a husband, father, and a job that demands a lot of travel, I am setting a realistic goal of 20 games for this year.
Here's hoping I can beat down my backlog this year.

05/25 Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX - After all these years, still my favorite Zelda game. I've lost count of how many times I've finished it, but each time is worthwhile.

01/27   Batman Begins - I was very surprised by this one. While it was bogged down by the films storyline, the gameplay was great. I couldn't help but shake the feeling that I was playing a last generation installment in the Arkham series. Great pacing, and fun "fear" themed gameplay. The Batmobile segments aren't half bad either, as they run on the Burnout engine.
