I had to share this stupid event with you all.

I went to BestBuy to purchase an item on sale which was supposed to include a giftcard.

I was informed I could get it on an interest free financing plan, but the giftcard was only included with online orders.

So they let me use their PC to place my order with instore pick-up, but the giftcard would be sent to us in the mail. then we walked up to the front of the store with the items we had ordered to make it easier on the workers.

When we got up to the front of the line, we gave the worker our order #, along with my ID and credit card and the items we lugged up with us. Just to double check, I asked if she'd check on the finance status.. turns out we were short by a small amount.. BUT we could add items to the purchase and qualify.

So we added a few console games, a controller and the like to the over all purchase. This made the entire sale eligable for the finance plan we had been planning on.

When we got home, I checked my email to find out I had an urgent message from Best Buy and items had just been shipped.

So, I opened my purchase history, low and behold I was charged 3 times for the original items I had purchased.

#1. The online order + free gift card

#2. The items we carried up front as a pick-up, but NOT the gift card

#3. The complete bundled order of the item + console games and controller we added to make the finance offer.

What the worker had done was instead of ending the online order, or marking it as picked up... she marked the specific item ear marked for me as OUT OF STOCK (No pick?) on the online order.

So, the urgent email I recieved was telling me I had to change pick-up location. The shipping confirmation was that the moment we placed the order.. the gift card was already packaged and shipped out, on the way to my house.

The second order was a hold placed on my account when the item's serial and UPCs were scanned into the system.

The third was the actual complete purchase we took home.

So I contacted Best Buy, and showed them the error. I had to get transferred to a person in the back with athority to see in-progress transactions.

I had to explain to her that we did technically pick up the order, we had the items and receipt right here next to me. She tried to explain to me I have to set another place to pick up the store.. so I explained to her again what had happened.

She then said I didn't have to worry, I wouldn't be charged for the gift card. I told her I would because the items were already purchased and those ones would not be picked up.

I told her to cancel the order, which she did. Low and behold I was charged $50.... which was supposed to be free with my purchase and pickup of my items.

Thankfully she saw the problem and refunded me the $50 charge but.. jesus.. for a while there it was showing a charge of around $1575 pending on my card...... which is just ludicrious.

I have a recurring one, though it doesn't always take place at Best Buy, but sometimes Target, Wal-mart, etc, where the store is closing, they've even announcing it over the store's intercom, and I have a game, or sometimes a movie, in each hand, but I just cannot decide which one to buy. Then everything goes eerily quiet and I look around to find that the employees are all staring at me, looking like the children from Village of the Damned. Sometimes they begin to move towards me, then I usually wake up.

It's a very stressful nightmare.

Well that is quite creepy.. I'd had dreams about being stuck in stores or houses like that before.

Though mine was just a bad experience that happened today.

I could understand buying into someone's interest free financing on say... a car consting you tens of thousands of dollars. You could invest your money to earn a small profit while making the interest free payments.

Why in the world would you trust Best Buy to do interest free financing with them for almost any amount if you have the ability to pay it all up front? Especially if it's just $1,575 worth of goods that includes non-necessities like video game stuff? It doen't sound like you were buying a stove or washing machine or something that a household might desperately need and thus give in to the financing plan.

I guarantee you'll be back in the future with complaints about how Best Buy's "interest free financing" somehow screwed you over and you'll end up paying even more for this stuff.

All because you wanted one item with a gift card.
