Hell with it, I put a hold for pickup.  Another toy to add to the pile, but this one may actually get some use.

Thanks!

BTW, link is FUBAR.

Which one? I copied and pasted both it from my desktop url.

If I had to guess you're on a cell, my phone hates links in CAG as well...

It's working now, the GS link. When I clicked on it a few times it kept popping up Bad Request on GS's site. Maybe it was a CAG referral issue.

I assume it runs the early gen emulators, but what about N64/PS1/PSP/DS?
PS1 it does well for sure as I've finished Silent hill on it. N64 runs decent with the proper emulator and settings, haven't tried PSP/DS. All of the emulators can be downloaded through the Google Play Store for free. There's no reason NOT to own one for under $20 as far as I'm concerned. Hell, if nothing else you can put Netflix, XBMC, Pandora, Twitch etc apps on it.

You can download RetroArch from the Play Store which has a ton of emulators built into it. It's the same emulator that's in the Retron 5 consoles.

Meh, 2 stores nearby have it, did a hold pickup for both. Doesnt seem too hard to mod, and it definitely would be useful for all it could do.

Yeah, it used to be much harder to modify. You could put it in Dev mode but it was still restricted. Another guy and myself used another android stick firmware with some modifications to the rom to flash over the stock firmware. It's a good thing too as I think PlayJam is going to go out of business and since you have to log in to their website to make an account, once the website goes dead so does all of the use of the stick. With the custom android rom that's not the case. You aren't missing out on the GameStick's store by putting on the custom rom, the GameStick's store is full of crap games that are way over priced that you can get on the google store for cheaper/free.

Alright Ill check the tutorials. What are the drawbacks of dev mode? What's the chance of bricking it if I put full Android on it? Can I unflash it eventually if I want to? You can send me a pm if you like

Have you tried Plex on it?

Did the question get answered regarding using a DS4 or wii u pro controller? Watched a review and tbe packed in controller looks dreadfully bad

Major drawback at least for me with Dev mode was that once my gamestick controller lost connection so did my wifi (really odd) and that there's a stupid controller not connected box that pops up and stays in the right corner of the screen after 10mins of controller inactivity. While that 2nd part doesn't sound completely awful it is since if you're watching a movie you will have a huge eye sore on the screen.

As far as bricking risk, I would say it's next to minimal... I've done over 20 units and haven't had a single problem flashing them. If you REALLY want to put the crap OS back on there I can make an image file of the orig OS and you would flash it the same way in recovery as you do the custom firmware.

Oddly I think he deleted his comment about the controller. I kinda cover the DS3 question in the video, you can use a DS3 controller with it hooked up with the supplied USB cable OR you can download an app through the Google App Store called Sixaxis Controller that will let you sync up the DS3 wirelessly. As far as I know the DS4 controller will work wired but not wirelessly, haven't tried it though.

Well, in for one. Looks like a cool little thing to mess aroubd with, and might be nice for my bedroom TV. Might try to find the dock tomorrow.

Grabbed one. Have a couple extra dual shock 3's I plan on pairing to run nes, snes and genesis emultors. Thanks op for the guides

It will play 1080p movies without any problems...

I plan on making it a makeshift MAME machine as well.  I have a Mortal Kombat edition arcade stick for the xbox 360 that works great for it, mix that with MAME and you have a pretty sweet home MAME rig.

This is what I wanted to know. The app says it supports both PS3 and PS4 controllers, and up to 4 controllers. I might give this a try then, would be great for some old school emulation.

Too bad N64 emulation is so sketchy, otherwise it would be nice to play some MK64 multiplayer. PSX emulation seems to be fine...

ech.

download links are giving me 'trojan horse general' warnings.
Never too fond of links with no site to look at

Ouya is supposedly going to distribute their OS at some point apparently .____.
This is concerning. May just use it in dev mode if the only issue is the pop up during movies as ill be using it for emulation.

False positive on the trojan horse general warnings, it's just because I used linkbucks to catch the clicks of the links. Ouya is going to be releasing their store for all android devices, so yes, it will work on the gamestick. Also, I used to have a link to it but you can actually run the Ouya front end over this already if you want. The Ouya OS is nothing more than an app running over top jellybean

Now that you can run stock Android I figure it's worth the gamble.

Yeah, with the stock firmware this thing is a hot mess. Very capable after the custom firmware.

Decided to grab one with extra controller, wanted the dock for $4 but all gone, seems interesting enough.  Will this run steam?

Seems like these are getting hard to find, are they still actually supporting the product or is it dead in the water? Actually isn't Ouya pretty much dead too!

Well before I posted this the dock was still available... All of my GameStops still have them in stock and the Stick itself is still available online. Honestly, you all should probably jump on this as soon as possible... Remember what happened to Cubic Ninja? Yeah, GameStop jumped the prices up when they saw a demand.

Thanks TS! In the last sale there was only one and was already 'sold' to someone else even though it had a hold for me.

Reserved the machine and the cradle

Lucky for me I had 2 Cubic Ninja's from the Big Lots sale. No I did not flip the 2nd one. Thanks for the info on the gamestick, might get one, even though I have a brand new never been used ouya. Having XBMC on the go is nice. When XBMP was the first thing to be made on the original xbox, I was personally the first to see a proof of concept before it was ever made into what it was known today (I was known for creating "the usual place" in the xbox scene for homebrew, starts with a x). Just a demo from the xbox sdk running a WMV file. Good ol' days for me, been out of touch with homebrew since xbox 360 came out.
