I'll update this OP as more news comes in.

Here's the official notice from Nintendo along with an FAQ about how it's all gonna go down.

  • How long can I keep earning Coins?
  • The last day to register products with Club Nintendo, take surveys, or earn Coins is March 31, 2015. Surveys in your To-Do list will be deleted after March 31, 2015, so please be sure to register products or take surveys by that date. Please note that products released after January 20, 2015 cannot be registered at Club Nintendo, and will not be eligible for surveys or Coins.
  • But I have Club Nintendo PIN # that is valid past March 31, 2015.
  • Products cannot be registered after March 31, 2015, regardless of the expiration date written on the PIN card.
  • Will the games I download still be registered with Club Nintendo?
  • Club Nintendo-eligible games that you download will continue to be registered to your account automatically until March 31, 2015 if your Nintendo eShop account is linked to your Club Nintendo account. After that date, games will no longer be registered with Club Nintendo. To find out which games you can register, please see Eligible Products. Click here to learn how to link your Nintendo eShop account to your Club Nintendo account.
  • When is the last day to join Club Nintendo?
  • You can join Club Nintendo until March 31, 2015.
  • When is the last day to redeem Coins on Club Nintendo?
  • The last day to redeem your Coins is June 30, 2015. Any unused Coins will be deleted on July 1, 2015. We are offering a large number of digital games, and select physical rewards, so we are sure you can find something you like. Limited quantities are available for the physical rewards, so please be sure to check out our Get Games & Rewards page for each item’s availability.
  • What happens to my Coins if I don’t use them all?
  • Any unused Coins in your Club Nintendo account will be deleted on July 1, 2015.
  • When is the last day to get the download code for the digital games I chose?
  • The last day to access your Club Nintendo account is June 30, 2015, so please be sure to get your 16-digit download code(s) for any games you’ve received before that date.
  • Will the download code ever expire?
  • Yes, all download codes redeemed from Club Nintendo will expire on July 31, 2015, so please be sure to download your game from the Nintendo eShop before that date.
  • Do I need to cancel my membership?
  • No, your account will automatically be cancelled on July 1, 2015, so there is no need for you to cancel your account.

I like mine. It's about as thick as a DS case, and holds 18 game cards. I mean it's convenient, but not really a necessity. I do prefer it to shirts, greeting cards, and posters, personally.

US store, too, according to the notice when I logged in. Darn. The first year I'm going to be platinum, and they cancel it. :p

 
Grr, they're saying up front that the Gold/Platinum rewards will be downloadable games again. I'm not exactly surprised, but I am disappointed.

I also kinda like the 3DS card cases. But I should mention for the folks on the fence, if you get it and don't like it, it has a $20 resale value.

 
I definitely prefer physical rewards. The digital games for Gold/Plat would have been better if they had more retail selection.

The card cases are worth it. We have three from the earlier series, back when they were only 250 coins each.

Hopefully we get some good send off rewards, like the Yoshi with apple plush that Japan and Europe both got. I'd gladly spend the final 1200 coins on that. And I'm definitely excited for the new program because it appears like it's going to be a world wide thing.

 
I personally find the cases to be useless imo. I keep my games in their original cases they come in. As for the Gold/Plat rewards, I'd prefer games over physical stuff.

 
I got about 15 cases (most I got while they were 250coins). They're nice. I keep all my DS games in them, as well as my overflow from a Hori 24 games cases for my 3DS games. For the space they occupy (and that I can fit more games), the hori ones (http://www.play-asia.com/3ds-card-case-24-black-paOS-13-49-en-70-43a6.html?affiliate_id=39842) are better for portability. At this point tho, I would recommend to wait and see the stuff they will add in Feb.

Edit: Looks like the Club Nintendo card case just sold out. It's no longer listed. I guess a lot of people must've ordered it with the news that club nintendo was shutting down.

I have many games that were never released in cases, so having an authentic/official mass storage solution is quite quaint.

As for Elite rewards, Club Nintendo has previously released exclusive physical games that were never made available through any other means. Now they're not even capable of tossing us some digital game that we can't easily buy at any given second. All I want out of rewards is exclusivity, I'm not so poor that I need some paltry freebies to pad my collection.

 
I enjoy the free games they give us.  A Link to the Past/Super Mario Kart/etc. Saves me from having to purchase these games with my cash, and let's me put that said cash to another game I'd want.

It has nothing to do with being poor, it's just another option.

Haha, we just received our Metroid / NES Remix 2 shirt. Not a fan of the patch on the sleeve and it's really fugly compared to the Yetee shirts we have.. but I can always use more shirts. ;)

Thankfully we still have 1200 coins remaining. So as long as we don't see too many items priced over that, I'll be okay. It does seem like people that don't have a total grasp of the situation are panicking and buying whatever they can now. Better chance of grabbing some of the new stuff next month, I guess.

You aren't too late yet. Nothing has sold out as far as I've seen, everything is shipping in 3-5 months so stuff will probably be made to order.

Also the site has been broken for hours and I haven't been able to buy anything... I've managed to login 3 times, but each time my coins were broken so I couldn't try checking out. If you do get far enough to checkout, checkout errors are supposedly extremely common.

I think the rewards are good, and at the very least there's variety. Not gonna lie, I lol'd when I saw the jig saw puzzle, and another t-shirt. But the new posters, carrying pouch, playing cards, messenger bag, and card case are nice. There's also a ton of digital rewards that are priced well enough, IMO.

I just got an order in for the MM messenger bag. The internet lined up perfectly for me there, I guess.

I have a Mario Party 2 code that I exchanged for my expiring coins months ago... I was planning to give it to my nephew but he has the Wii Mini, so no download love.  :roll:

Anyone want to exchange this code for something else? I'm not looking for anything valuable, just something to make it worth the effort. For example, another Wii downloadable game, maybe? I was never interested in this game, and these codes will be expiring soon by the looks of it.

I'm going to go ahead and assume you tried for the entire 2 and a half hours between your earlier post.

I've been making random attempts since 6am PST and have only managed to sign in once and have my coins actually show. And I couldn't get a single product page to load after that miracle.

Yeah, my coins weren't showing when I actually did sign on. I finally was able to purchase it after a few more attempts.

 
I was able to order the messenger bag and the card case, as I prefer physical rewards over digital.  Even so, I am probably also going to choose a digital game and get HarmoKnight.

damn.  not enough points for the messenger bag.  oh well.  Guess I'll grab Earthbound and a 3ds game case for my kid.  only even started getting points in December and had 670

 
Finally got through and placed my order for the messenger bag and NES Remix before I couldn't log in anymore.  I'll place an order for HarmoKnight, Sakura Samurai and maybe CrossworDS Plus later on.  I'll hang on to my last 1400 coins after that to see if they make any other updates before June, like more games, or even the option to convert those last coins into eShop credit.  If not, then I'll just blow them on whatever.

 
I literally bought Wonderful 101 two weeks ago, so I'm a bit annoyed to see it on the list. That being said, I'll probably find something on that list of digital games to get, especially since most of the physical rewards don't do much for me. I'm hoping the gold and platinum rewards get announced before the deadline to redeem coins comes around though, because I get the feeling a few games might be popping up on that list too.

 
Is there a good list of free 3DS apps/games that qualify for points? Google has mixed results. I think I can get Steel Diver but it's not clear if youtube + netflix count. I need 25 points to go to reach 150 and get a 3DS game, then call it quits.

Yeaah I'm not big on the collectibles (posters and jigsaw puzzles and stuff like that, nowhere worthwhile to store or display them at my place anyway) so the huge selection of downloadable games was nice.  Got Earthbound, Golden Sun, Super Mario World, Dr. Luigi, and I should have enough points for another game whenever the copy of Smash I ordered off of Shop.Ca the other day arrives.

I also hit Platinum for the year, so hopefully there's some cool stuff in the platinum rewards when they get announced.

RIP Club Nintendo, I hardly knew ye.

I'm kind of the other way around. Digital stuff that I can buy at any moment doesn't really do it for me. I mean, why pick a digital game over something I could never buy (outside of ebay resellers). Also, the issue with offering games, is that I mostly own most, if not all the ones I would be interested in.

 
5 coins away from 800... not sure if I'd get the messenger bag. I like Nintendo collectibles but man, the messenger bag is ugly as sin. I'm not sure what they were thinking printing a black design on a black bag.

I didn't want to get a digital reward but the physical ones are so disappointing I could see myself just getting Dr. Luigi, Golden Sun and some random VC game.

I thought the same thing, I do like the smash bros wallpaper with marth and shulk :p so went for that instead.

There are a few free Wii/3DS games that kick out coins/surveys if you just need to edge over a mark like that. Uhh I don't remember the entire list, but Pinbal Zen, Lucadian Chronicles, Rusty's Baseball and a few others.

Or of course you can get yourself banned registering endless Wii Mini's :twisted:
