Question for an Admin or Moderator (or anyone else who may know)

CAGiversary!
Hello, all,

I started a thread yesterday called "Monoprice?  Can anyone help tell me more?"  (#10340?) in the Video Game Deals forum.  I was quickly informed that that was the the wrong place for such a post as it was more of a question rather than a deal.  Agreed.  Upon further inspection, I also realized I never noticed the particular forum rules on the Deals page or I would've posted elsewhere.

Anywho, after a while, the entire thread has disappeared.  I now get the message that I don't have permission to view it.  Notifications regarding the post still appear for me, but when I click on them or the thread, I get that error message.

Someone suggested to me that I should've posted my original question/comment in the Deal Graveyard.  Since the thread has disappeared, I've went to the Graveyard, figuring that it might have been moved there.

I don't see it anywhere nor does it appear via a search.  Is it in a state of pending approval or something similar?  Was my error in starting the thread in the wrong location a serious violation?  My question wasn't one of terrible import, merely a curiosity, but I'm now more curious where it all went.

Anywho, long story longer, if anyone can shed some light, I'd appreciate it.  Thanks for any help.  I'll do my best to tread more lightly henceforth.

Thread was removed.

  • You were asking a question in the video game deals forum.
  • You posted a dead deal.

If you have a question relating to a store/video game deal. You can post it in either shopping discussion or deal requests & advice.
Very good. Thanks for the reply and explanation.

I again apologize for posting incorrectly initially as I didn't see the criteria despite its obviousness.

A couple of q's, if you don't mind:

Would the thread then not be moved to the Deal Graveyard -- or another appropriate forum, such as shopping discussions or deal requests, as you suggested -- rather than being completely deleted so that the question may still have a chance of being answered (it never really got one that I saw)? (Thinking back, was the title of my thread a big part of the issue since it was a question instead of a statement about a deal?)

If not, what is the criteria for moving instead of just requiring a user to repost in a different forum? (Heck, with the original gone, I couldn't even cut and paste it if it was a long one, let's say.)

Also, when posts or threads are deleted (or moved), are we notified of that in some way other than the mysterious permissions block? I'm sure many may know what that means, but I could only guess and fear the worst, i.e., I did something wrong or in some way seriously violated some tenet.

And even with your reply, should I have received notification of it somewhere?

Again, I appreciate your patience -- however thin it may be at this point -- and your help, as I'm relatively new here. Not wanting to rock the boat. Merely trying to get a handle on the wind.

Thanks, again.

We only allow active deals to be posted in the video game deals forum. Posting in the wrong section is nothing major unless it happens frequently. We normally do not disclose the reason for why a thread is moved or removed.

I have restored your thread in deal request & advice.

Thank you, Sir. I appreciate your time. Should I be getting notifications when someone (like yourself, for instance, with this thread) posts to it, so I know to check for it? Forgive me for all the amateurish questions. Have a good one.

You'll get a notification when someone quotes your post. Or click "Follow this topic" at the top right of a thread.
