Just found out my wireless router is garbage. I need a new one to handle the 50 mb upgrade I just got. Any recommendations on a reasonably priced router? It's used mostly for heavy streaming and medium gaming. Thanks!

I need to get a new router myself. This one has over 4K customer reviews, and has a 4 out of 5 star rating on Amazon -

Says it can run up to 500 Mbps for streaming and gaming. Price is insanely low, which made me think it might be garbage, but with a 4 out of 5 star rating it makes it worth a shot. You can always return it if it doesn't perform up to snuff.

Hope that this helps my fellow CAG.

I've been using ASUS routers for multiple years and they have been bulletproof for me.  Started out with a RT-N56U, then went to the RT-N66U and currently running a RT-AC68U.

RT-N66U is a great 802.11ABGN router and it has great support from ASUS as well as third-party firmware from Tomato, RMerlin's firmware (go to forums.smallnetbuilder.com for more info), DD-WRT and the like.

My RT-AC68 handles traffic for:

2 iPads

1 iPhone

1 Nexus 7

1 Galaxy Note 2

4 Tivos

3 smart TVs

1 Roku 3

1 Desktop PC

1 NAS

2 Xbox 360s

1 Xbox One

1 PS3

1 PS4

1 Wii U

1 Wii

Never had an issue with any speeds or multiple downloads going at once.   Most of the devices are wired, though numerous wireless devices are going at any given time.

Regardless of whatever you get, make sure it has Gigabit Ethernet ports for both your LAN ports and WAN, so your wired devices will speak at full GigE speeds and you'll be able to handle a WAN connection faster than 100Mbps.

If you can spend the money on an 802.11AC wireless router, it'll be more future proof for devices that support 802.11AC wireless.

The tp-link router is really great for the price. I bought one around a year ago for 15 bucks. I used it for a few weeks when my old linksys e3000 crapped out. Spend 160 bucks on the Asus ac68 which is an amazing router and has better range then the tp-link. But most cheap routers usually crap out in a year or so. But I heard good things on a lot of tp link routers.

I imagine your router is older and maxes out in the wireless "b" or "g". Most new "N" or "ac" routers will work good. But look up reviews on the products before you buy one. And what features you need/want.
