i just don't have the most reliable internet service like an T-1, so i sometimes get disconnected randomly in these type of games, and the matches can take too long sometimes. you don't need hundreds of hours devoted to be above average, but starcraft is also not a game you can just pick up , and get semi-decent within a few hours like those moba games like dota/ LOL
I'm naturally handicapped at RTS games anyway since I just like to build up massive armies and play it slow. I played SC2 hard core at launch and got to a pretty decent division before I lost enough interest that I couldn't play it any longer. Got to the top of whatever the second highest one was. That was definitely at least 100 hours sunk into the game (not counting all the outside the game stuff required to get good), maybe more, to get to above average but not really good. It's why I don't really play MOBAs and fighting games any longer either, hundreds of hours put into several games for nothing really. Those I can at least jump back into with some competency at least but I'm too bad at RTS games for that.
