I would do this in a heartbeat if it was just a standard TigerDirect rebate, but this seems to be a shady McAfee rebate with a ridiculous term:

* Stay enrolled in the Auto Renewal feature for the first 10 months of the subscription

To each their own. I already own one so i'm not gonna bother but, if this was 2 months ago I would at least try it. Worst case scenario is spending msrp. Best case scenario is getting money back later. It's not particularly hard to open the calendar app and set a reminder to cancel in 11 months. Hell set 10 reminders so you can't possibly ignore them

that is really weird, does that mean you won't get the rebate until month 10?  lol

swapping drives on ps4 is pretty easy, but you will have to reinstall all your games.  you should also backup all your saves to a thumb drive (or portable USB drive), while it will redownload all your PS+ cloud saves usually 100% of stuff isn't kept there, just one save per game.

I traded in my ps4 and bought a new one over the weekend, it was pretty easy and i was back up and running in under an hour.  Backup all my saves, insert new drive, have the latest PS4 firmware on thumb drive and install at boot (its 800 megs not 300 meg update firmware), login to PSN, redownload all my games, restore all my saves, and good to go.

keep in mind you can only restore saves for games that are installed, I had saves from games I traded in like infamous, MGS, 1886, etc that I can't restore unless I rebuy and install the games.  Don't really care, I'll just copy them all to my dropbox and keep as backup, but something to keep in mind.

After reading some comments on slick deals you supposedly receive your money in about 2-4 months (standard rebate).apparently you don't have to install it,just activate it online.people reporting they canceled after receiving rebate without consequences. If it makes anyone feel better i took the plunge with a 8gb stick of ram the other day.

Just swapped my HDD in my PS4 with this unit over the weekend.  Paid $93 from Amazon...

The rebate requirments make it sound like you won't get your rebate for 10+ months.  By then most will forget and score one for the rebate baiters!

Did you have ps+ with cloud storage? And I'm a geek so naturally i had like 3 or 4 harddrives lying around so i just copied my saves to one of them. Stupid that you need to copy each game save indicidually though. Not sure when rebate comes in to be completely honest with you. I just know that a 500 gb hd retails for roughly $50 and if you have the money to spare and can wait 10 months for the rebate it might be worthwhile for some people because you won't find one for this price without a rebate

Please add in the $60 MIR in the topic.  A 60% rebate is huge and that stupid auto-renewal sign up kills it for me.  Who uses that bloatware at home anyway?

Wouldn't touch this with a 10 foot Western Digital.

Seagate highest rate of failures, AKA the *CLICK CLICK CLICK* drives.

You'll know when it happens to you, I'll never use them again.

Ps4 compatible as in it's a hard drive?
Yes it's a hard drive. And one of the few 2tb drives that actually fit in the console at the moment. The hd inside it of it actually retails for $120 right now http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178627 and you can repurpose the old 500gb drive for something else by just sticking it back in the enclosure. Like I said msrp for this drive is roughly $90. If you're willing to put up with the rebate it's a great deal.

That drive routinely goes on sale for $100, and I have one in my PS4, though mine was $80 around BF due to a promotion with MasterCard purchases on NewEgg. I also know that if the drive fails, the warranty on it will actually be valid, as Seagate knows the SNs of the drives that are in external enclosures versus drives that are sold as standalone drives.

The SpinPoint drive is great and works well in a PS4. Long-term, if you pull the drive from an external enclosure and it fails, you may not be able to get warranty service on it.

I was willing to risk it but i can see why other aren't. But at this price after rebate it's not as big of a gamble. I kind of wish i would have grabbed the bare drive for warranty purposes but too late

NewEgg has had the price of the bare drive at $99.99 w/FS three or four times since November. They had one around the end of January, so it's likely to drop again in the next couple/few weeks.

Damn paying $93 after shipping for the external doesn't seem as good of a deal now. Oh well I'm glad I got all my downloads out of the way and don't have to do it again. The case is pretty nice though and worth a few bucks at least. The cheapest 3.0 enclosure i've seen is $10 or so

Was just about to post this... Seagate has been notorious as of the last few years for unrealiable HDDs. There's a reason their HDDs are usually the cheapest.

Rebates in 2015? Wtf lol
It's simple a good portion of people will forget and they get all the money. @people complaining about seagate they have about 50% of the harddrive market and have been around for 30+ years. If the majority of their harddrives were bricks they wouldn't have been around for so long. It's not like you even have much choice at this size anyway. Maybe if you're willing to go with one of those 3.5" docks from nyko.

Best buy has a toshiba 1tb for 49.99 I just bought and put in my ps4. And I paid for it with game trade credit. Just throwing that out there if anyone would be happy with 1tb for now. Once a really good 2tb+ deal hits, I'll put the 1tb into the PS3.

I hope by now someone has brought up this is the same type of drive ALREADY in the PS4? If you that worried you need to change your drive anyway!

It's a laptop drive if that's what you mean? It seems to be the only drive on market that will fit inside the ps4 right now. Of course you could get the nypo data bank later and use a desktop drive in it

No, its a Samsung spinpoint, same as the drive in the PS4(for those who don't know, Seagate bought Samsung mechanical drive business when their reliability was having issues, and its since improved, I think that BackBlaze failure article was pre-samsung purchase integration.)

my ps4 had a hgst drive in it not a spinpoint. So maybe sony uses different drives? Got it on launch day maybe sony switched up manufacturers?

Not surprising, plenty of manufacturers have done that.
My launch PS4 had a spinpoint.

I had a rebate last november from Mcafee that had the same requirement. I canceled my auto renewal the day I got my rebate card (about 5 weeks after sending it in). I used the rebate card 2 days ago without any problems.

Don't want that McAfee trash, but that price is tempting. I wonder if I'd be better off waiting, though, and seeing what size hard drive comes with a new PS4 model that might be released this year.

I did this too. Opened the external HDD and swapped it with the PS4 HDD. Sucks that the PS4 doesn't transfer data like the PS3 does. I have slow internet so it takes forever to download all of the updates all over again.

no data transfer tool for ps4 yet? really lame

Hmmm... if I use this drive for my PS4, and then put the 500GB into the enclosure, could I use it on the Wii U?
Two upgrades, one purchase?
