Best national bank for a checking account/check card?

I've had US bank for almost 10 years now but this is the first time I've had to deal with their CS for anything serious.

My card number (not card itself) was recently stolen and they were so fucking incompetent about the entire process. They traced a fake "test" transaction but decided not to do anything about it... and let there be another $600 leave my account. Took over 1 hour and 10 minutes to get my card cancelled.

I need a new bank, and as much as I would like a smaller bank or credit union, I often receive/give money to my parents who live across the country... so it's convenient for both parties to be able to have one bank we can use.

Anyone have any recommendations of a bank they're happy with? I'm not really looking for anything as long as it has free checking or checking fees waived with direct deposit/minimal balance, no stupid/crazy fees, and has customer service that doesn't suck.

I was thinking about Chase but really don't know since I've never had any other banks.

Yeah, it was USBank. I should have changed them years ago since they have fewer locations/ATMs but never really saw the point since I rarely need to use ATMs and they had a location close to my current and prior homes.

i just never heard of it. i would go with chase

Eh, all the banks are pretty scummy if you bother to read the news or paid attention the past decade. People say to use a credit union instead, but for a lot of cases you're better off using Chase I guess.

Yeah, I'm aware of all the shit they do that the average person wouldn't know about. I would gladly use to a credit union but it would be much more convenient to use a national bank at this time.

Actually some credit unions are apart of shared branching, which helps credit unions be more national. As long as the credit union is apart of the program you can do things like transfers to other credit unions and such.

I work at a credit union and although we aren't shared branching, the things we do for our members is amazing! But if you want to experience the exact same thing then go to chase or Wells Fargo, but you might as well stay with US Bank, because the same thing will happen(worked for both Wells and chase).
