So I am getting ready to buy Mario Party 10 for it's launch this Friday and notice the Wiimote's are required for multiplayer.  I can't believe I have to purchase peripherals from a previous gaming generation to play something on the current one.  Yes, I never owned a regular Wii so I need to buy everything.

Assuming I would like to make full potential of this game and have 5 players in Bowser mode (1 GamePad, 4 Wiimote) and up to 4 Amiibo's can be used during Amiibo Party.

Mario Party 10 with Mario Amiibo bundled - $59.99
Wiimote x4 - $39.99 ea @ $159.96
Amiibo x3 - $12.99 ea @ $38.97

Total: $258.92

Prices are MSRP and do not include taxes or shipping.  If I were to add tax it would be $280.49.

Of course, I could cut that down a little by purchasing used equipment but still it's a hefty amount to pay for a Mario Party game that honestly probably won't be very good but stupid me promised to my family to get before reading the fine print.  Oh well, who needs a savings account these days any ways?

You forgot to add $300 for the cost of the WiiU.

Also, add $400 for a decent TV.

Before electricity and a place to put it, you're at almost $1000.

I think I may just send mine back when it comes in.

It wouldn't be so bad if there was something else coming down the pipeline that used the Wiimote's.  At least with the Wii U, the TV and the electricity it is used for other things besides this single game.  I already invested in 4 Wii U Pro Controllers for every other multiplayer game on the system.

Dude, you're a sucker if you're still paying MSRP for Wiimotes.  If I hadn't had some for years, I'd go to my local pawn shop and buy some for $10 each.  (and that's for wii motion plus)

Yea, its bullshit but I already had wiimotes, 9 wasn't really that good, but it was still fun with 4 players. Does anybody know if MP10 will have online multiplayer?

Just remember the cost of electricity to run your WiiU is around $100 a year or so. It's not free or being used for other stuff.

I remember when that came out. My friend was so pissed off about using GBA for multiplayer.

This brings up another valid point, you have to have a lot of other stuff to play this game. Food, friends, furniture, and a place to play!

I seriously have spent over $180,000 just to play this game.

I think I am going to let my friend buy Mario Party 10 and then I will just bring the one Wiimote I own over to play it. I bought Wii Party U on Black Friday for the Wiimote and haven't used it once or played Wii Party U, only reason I opened it was for the Club Nintendo PIN.

Wii Party U sucks in comparison to Mario Party.

I didn't have nearly as much fun with it as I had with any Mario Party.

No argument on that one. Like I said I only bought Wii Party U for the Wiimote since it was super cheap on Black Friday, but never plan on actually playing it. I never have a ton of company over anyway and usually just play games at home with my girlfriend, but I know one of my good friends plans on getting Mario Party 10 and to avoid having to spend money on the game (Bloodborne and Final Fantasy XV demo will have me plenty busy). I definitely want to play Mario Party 10 though, aside from the recent 3DS game, I have always enjoyed the Mario Party games with a group of friends.

Did anybody play Fortune Street? Slower paced, but fun, and it had online multiplayer.
That came out long after I had already gotten rid of my Wii, but it always looked like a good time. It'd be nice if Nintendo re-released a lot of those later Wii titles on the Wii U. I'd also really like to see Mad World come back with standard controls.

Not sure where you came up with that number but it's way off. Even if a Wii U was on 24 hours a day, it wouldn't cost nearly that much. For an average user playing 3 or so hours a day, having a Wii U adds roughly $5 to the annual electric bill.

a ps3 or 360 costs more than 100, they are power hogs. This was a conservative estimate.

I'm still pissed I am paying so much for this damn game...for 13 more years too!

I still play this game a few times a month. It's like a digital version of Monopoly, only with better gameplay, better strategy, and it uses Mario characters. This and Mario Party 8 still get regular play. 9 doesn't get any play because of the "everyone moves together" mechanic, and since they decided to keep that around in 10, I won't be getting it. I was so excited for today, too. :nottalking:

Are you serious about the everyone moves together in 10 !?! Why did they do that? It completely ruined 9 to the point of it being the first Mario Party I didn't purchase. :whistle2:(

Yep. Unless you decide to sit around a table with your friends and play tappy mode (aka Amiibo mode). Then you get to move individual around a plain old game board, and do a lot of tapping on the Gamepad with everyone's individual amiibos.

if I want to play an old school competitive Mario Party (with people who know how to play and work the system), I still boot up MP6 as my go to game (the orb mechanic was done very well for strategic gameplay).  MP8 is still fun for Wiimote style gameplay and competitive playing, but the candy items weren't as well done as the orbs in MP6, and overall I thought the boards in MP8 weren't very good (or at least too simple).

I still play MP9 for newcomers since it really simplifies the gameplay, and the minigames were a step up (enjoyed the Bowser Jr. and boss fights), but don't go into it expecting any level of skill to matter, since its mostly luck who wins in the end.

I'm still curious to pick up MP10 someday since my wife and kids would like to play it (well only one kid is old enough to understand at the moment), I think my oldest daughter would get a kick out of playing as Bowser.

fuck this game fuck  Nintendo!

This is is why they lost the top spot. Disabling controllers is unacceptable,  of course I find this out after I got the game from UPS.  Taking this shit back!

For those of you that own this game, can you tell me if the sensor bar is required to play? If this is the case that is a deal breaker for me as the sensor bar is an eye sore on my entertainment center. I'm so mad at nintendo for not allowing the use of pro controllers.

Yes you need it.

You could also do the candle trick if that works better. (Old trick that someone found with the Wiimotes, Youtube it)

I don't know about 10. We played it for 4-5 hours last night, and it was fun, but not MP8 fun. We didn't play much 9, but it came out at a time when my wife worked out of town 5 days a week, and on her days off, we weren't able to play much.

I think to play an entire game on 10 takes far less time than any of the others. I think we were finishing a whole game in 20 mins, maybe less. The minigames are fun, and sometimes I think the game throws them in there to make you play them. The mini stars suck too, I like the old game where you got the big ones.

I don't regret the purchase, it is one game my wife WILL play with me, it was $50 with a Mario Amiibo, but I still think 8 is a better game.

One thing I'm not too keen on is that you all travel as a group, now. I liked MP8 better where there was a board and, in more the traditional board-game style, you went around the board individually and chose your own path.

I also like MP8 which had that "invest in a hotel" kind of action happening which played better into the whole individual, traditional board game movement.

It's like they had a marketing meeting and someone said, "Having the characters move individually confuses people! Put them all in a vehicle and make them travel together!" - which really takes away a good part of the fun.

It's still a good game, just could have been better with individual movement.

You could cut it down a little just by shopping around. Here's an eBay auction for Wii Motion Plus controllers for about $28 shipped (Brand New, Sealed):

http://www.ebay.com/itm/FlingSmash-Wii-Remote-Plus-Controller-for-Nintendo-Wii-Brand-New-Sealed-/111625090646?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19fd5fb656 . Plus you get Flingsmash which would be something else for you family to enjoy.

You can get knockoff controllers for about $18 shipped, with a nunchuck even, and your younger family members may not even notice a difference. If not you have the $28 option.

amiibo figures are on sale next week at Target for 25% off. Some figures are priced at $9.99 so you can obtain them for $7.49 when they go on sale.

Not to mention you could secure a copy of the game or bundle for a bit less on eBay even right at release. I'm sure you could have used the trading thread here to get a copy of the game for $35-$40 on release also and just bought a fourth amiibo separately.

Yes, it's still spendy, but your numbers are for people who spend full retail on everything and have absolutely none of these items ahead of time and has a family of four and refuses to purchase new and doesn't already have Gamer's Club Unlocked and must have this game right NOW.
