1 vs. 1, Single-elimination tournament
2 stock, 6:00 time limit, no items, no customs
Best 3 out of 5 (4 out of 7 for Finals)

First stage chosen is agreed upon by both participants.
Loser of the match picks the next stage.
All standard characters are viable. (No Mii characters! No amiibo!) Both players can change characters between the matches, if desired.)

When you play your match, please post results. Can be kind of like this:

Strell (Luigi) d. Rig (Ganondorf)
Rig (Toon Link) d. Strell (Mario)
Strell (Mario) d. Rig (Dark Pit)
Strell (Luigi) d. Rig (Dark Pit)
Winner: Strell 3-1.

If you can video capture your matches, that would be great too! You can also play all five matches, if you'd like. As long as they follow the tourney rules, it's up to the players.

hmm wonder if I'll get a wii u by then. my two cents is that you require cags to have been members for X amount of time.  oh and no time limit?

No time limit. I don't think a CAG member age will be an issue. I hope people signing up would be active members.

I think you should have a time limit (For Glory is 5 minutes, tournaments use 6 minutes). Even though I'm average, I can definately out camp better players and get lucky kills.

more of an issue of competiive smash players signing up. with that said maybe I can just have my friend play using my nnid lol

I suppose if it's an issue, we can have a time limit.  I understand the purpose of them.  I just don't think it's ever been a factor in the past.  (With our Brawn tourney's)

 
How will selecting characters go? Blind picking seems like the only fair way to start off. I don't think it would be fun if the two players kept switching to get an advantage or if one person got to pick their character before the other player. I'd also recommend that the loser should, after each game, verbally pick the stage first. The winner and loser can then change characters, respectively. Stage picking first prevents the loser from picking a stage that gives a severe disadvantage to the winner's character.

Which stages are legal? I don't think anyone wants to be forced to play something like Temple or The Great Cave Offensive.

I suppose we'll make a "legal" stage list. I don't think anyone would be...silly enough to pick a questionable stage.

Loser would tell the winner what stage to pick for the next round. Either here via PM's or via the mic between matches.

As for characters, I believe characters are not seen until the match starts (with friends). So, I don't think they'd be an issue, since both players can change between matches without their pick being known.

OK, new to this.

Use the ID I use to sign into Nintendo Network instead of the wonderful Friend Code system?

I've never played the WiiU online with friends.

Wii U online doesn't use the friend codes anymore. Just need to be friends with the NNID to see someone online. (Thank goodness!)

Rig this is totally awesome! I'd love to play, but I'm going to be traveling across Europe the whole month of April. :whistle2:(

But when I come back, I'd love to get a few friendlies in with people!

Rig, my schedule and health (nothing serious, I think) isn't the best right now otherwise I'd join in on the fun. I know I will not be around for mid late - late April so that would probably hinder the bracket progress as well (assuming I'd be fortunate enough to advance).

Newer people don't forget to add your ID to the Smash Bros NNID Wiki Thread to get some practice with other CAGs. I might be able to get in on some of those at least.

I also hope that someone donates a prize to Rig if he ends up the winner since he is the one donating one in the first place.

Well... signed up... guess Ill try to fit this in between work and all. I am off on Weds and Sundays. I am fully off Easter week for vacation. I have 3ds and WiiU version. Tbh, this could be fun to pit Amiibos vs Amiibos lol.

 
didn't end up getting wii u this past weekend, but if you some help Rig let me know.  I think I've been around my "pro" friends long enough that I think I khow things should run

 
I will be using the "random seed" button on Challonge tomorrow, a little after noon (central). Some are gonna have an extra round to play...assuming we don't get to something like 24 players.

I'll post the bracket over here tomorrow!

Hey Rig, is it ok for me to use my PDP Fightpad Controller for the tournament? It's a gamecube controller they made for brawl, but they've inexplicably mapped the L and R buttons to grab and the tinier Z buttons (there are 2 instead of 1) are for blocking. This created mass confusion in my brain and so I had to customize the controls and flip them to be identical to the gamecube controller. That is all that I changed, but technically I do have "customized controls". I hope that's ok.

One suggestion RIg.

When you get the bracket up, make sure to put names here and Nintendo IDs.

Also, maybe everyone put the best time for them to play, so we can work together on it?

Just throwing some ideas out there to make it a little more smooth.

Oh yeah, I had to dig my Wii Classic controller out last night, so I don't break my Gamepad. I don't think I ever used it because I plugged GC controllers into Wii.

Also, I assume it's cool if I use one character. I pretty much suck with all of them except Wii Fit Trainer. ;)

My brother just made a CAG account and an ID just to play this tournament. Sorry for the confusion but I'm using his Mii and he's using mine because I didn''t know you could add more than one ID to a console and we both want to play, haha
