Securing a Used PC

TheShepherdSauce

CAGiversary!
So I bought a used PC from ebay. From what I can tell, the seller sells a bunch of used PCs and laptops through his online store.

Right now I'm running DBAN on the hard drive and will re-install Windows 7. Is there anything else I should do to make sure this PC is safe to use?

Basically, I'm concerned about any malware that might be on the computer or if the seller installed something like a keylogger or similar type of program on the computer.

Should I just consider replacing the hard drive? Seems like a waste of 150 gb. Or maybe I'm just being too paranoid here?

Guards. At least 2 of them. And a surveillance system to watch the PC day and night. Only then, will it be secure.

Buy a new drive. Format the one it comes with. Problem solved.

Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure. Wait, wrong problem...

Reformat the drive and reload the operating system.

soak it in warm water with dish washing liquid for 24 hours, then rinse it off. once you dry it off with a blow dryer, and you are good to go.

Clean it with some Calgon or Ajax, 2 of the only substances that can remove skank from a hooker!

Reformat the hard drive, make sure you get any partitions as well, then reload the operating system.

You should be ok.

If you have access to the factory restore CD try those as well.

In fairness, a 150 GB hard drive is barely adequate these days. Scrapping it for a roomier one wouldn't be a terrible idea.
do they even sell 150 gb hard drives any more? i think the smallest size is 320 gb now . it is like those people i heard who still uses floppy disks.

160GB 2.5'' hard drives are still for sale, considering the glut of laptops and PS3s out there. There is a $10 hdd tray that supports 2 2.5'' drives, and 1 3.5'' drive and fits in a DVD drive bay.
