CAGiversary!

Hi everyone!
It's the fifth year for the PAX Prime CAG Meetup! :grouphug: That info's below, as well as all the other usual stuff. Of course, the schedule's not up yet, so stay tuned…

At the very least, what with Harmonix's announcement earlier this year, I'm hoping Rock Band returns to the stage near the Juicy Cafe

Most of the info, at least for right now, is repeated from last year's thread. Updates/suggestions are always appreciated.

Important Notices and Updates:
- ***NEW!*** The schedule's now up on the website, too!
- ***NEW!*** The Guidebook app for this year is now available!
- See the second post for all basic PAX and Seattle info, from schedule links to sightseeing suggestions.
- If you're currently trying to get passes, through eBay, Craigslist, Reddit, or whereever, be mindful of bootlegs. Also, according to some posters on NeoGAF (here, here, and here), there's a good chance that the longer you wait, the cheaper your options will get. In general: common sense.
- If you have extra passes and want to offer them to your fellow CAGs, please follow CAG rules and proper decorum for sales/trades. Keep in mind that this is not a trading thread. You are free to post that you have and/or are looking for passes, but please do not spam this thread with such notices; conduct as much of your business as possible via trade lists and/or PMs. If this thread gets too large/busy with requests/offers, I will list them here for convenience's sake.

Post-PAX CAG Meetup
Rock Bottom Brewery again? Okay with everyone? Okay.

As usual, post in this thread to RSVP. The deadline to RSVP is Sunday, August 30 at 10PM! - The RSVP list is CLOSED.

Oh, and if you're new to this, note that this is an unofficial meetup that is neither sponsored nor endorsed by Cheap Ass Gamer (though staff members are of course welcome)! Everyone is expected to cover their own food, drinks, and tips.

- DATE/TIME: Monday, August 31st; arrive by 7PM
- RSVP: R. Kasahara, bitprophet, metaly, zenprime, creid, ThreeRandomWords, DemonsMaster

Helpful Tips

- Wear comfy shoes! Comfy clothing, too, but comfy shoes are more important.
- Bring the following stuff with you every day: PAX badge, schedule book/Guidebook app and lanyard (available at the show), bottled water, cash, hand sanitizer, camera of some kind, poster tube, handheld gaming device(s) of your choice.
- Be especially courteous to the Enforcers! They are volunteers who are there to help you, and they are awesome.
- Take showers (and practice proper hygiene in general) every day! A shower only takes 10 minutes each day and guarantees you won't be "that guy/gal with the confunk".
- If you're cosplaying, use common sense! Here's PAX's policy on prop weapons.

Hotels

- Hotel registration. Note that all of the best/closest rooms at convention rates are already booked. You can still book many (if not all) of these hotels at Orbitz, Travelocity, etc., but the rates will be higher.

Food

Eating Out
- Downtown Seattle restaurant map (from 2013):
VEunhhU.jpg
- Google doc with restaurant info via the Penny Arcade forums (from 2014; not sure how up-to-date it is).
- The Juicy Cafe - one of the most popular eating spots in the Convention Center itself; healthy, inexpensive, and tasty food. Vegan-friendly and runs extended hours during PAX.
- Specialty's Bakery and Cafe - a good breakfast spot; breakfast sandwiches, pastries, coffee, etc.
- MOD Pizza - awesome pizza; decent selections of toppings and beverages. Another inexpensive and very popular option.
- Gordon Biersch and Rock Bottom Brewery - Brew pubs that have been homes to previous CAG meetups.

Groceries
- Kress IGA Supermarket - a little on the upscale side, but good in general.
- Target

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Transportation

Within Seattle
- King County Metro Transit
- If you're driving into downtown, the Convention Center itself offers good parking.

For Out-of-Towners
- Planes: Hipmunk is a handy tool for airplane ticket price comparisons. I couldn't find any convention-specific rates for flights this year.
- Trains: Amtrak; can't find any info on this year's PAX Train yet.
- Car Rental: Note that if you're coming in from out of town by plane or train, you should not need a rental car. Downtown Seattle is very walkable, especially if you're in a hotel close to the convention center.
- Light rail public transit is available to downtown Seattle from the airport (SeaTac/Airport station) and Amtrak (Int'l District/Chinatown station).

Miscellaneous

Sightseeing
If you're visiting from out of town and have time to kill before or after PAX, why not check out Seattle?

Seattle Center:
There's a lot of stuff to see and do at Seattle Center, including the Space Needle. A quick and popular way to get there is the Monorail. Combo tickets are available for the museums and other attractions there if you plan on seeing more than one thing and want to save a little cash.
- Pacific Science Center: current exhibits and IMAX theater schedule. There's also LaserDome, for Laser Floyd and the like.
- Chihuly Garden and Glass - on the smaller side for a museum, but worth visiting at least once if you're into art.
- The EMP Museum - formerly known as the Experience Music Project and Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame, or EMP|SFM. Features pop music and sci-fi/fantasy exhibits.

Cheapass sightseeing:
- Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park and Olympic Sculpture Park are two free museum-style attractions I've enjoyed on past trips.
- Int'l District/Chinatown makes for good window shopping, thanks in part to the Kinokuniya Bookstore and Pink Gorilla.
- Pike Place Market and Pioneer Square are neat places to walk around.
- For even more suggestions: Free Things to Do in Seattle.

Shipping
- In case you need to ship anything home, there is a FedEx inside of the convention center. They also sell poster tubes (you're definitely going to need one of those).
- There are also USPS and UPS branches downtown, but they aren't as convenient to get to.

Special thanks to zenprime, creid, kube00, metaly, JEKKI, and anyone else I may have forgotten who has contributed info to this and/or previous PAX Prime threads.

If you have anything else useful to add, let me know!

Got Passes, Got a Room, Oy vey What do you mean i still have to finish working today? I am completly worn out! No I don't want to answer the phone, no I don't want to reply to emails, no what do you mean you'll can me, I have to pay for PAX! Ok, I'll work, just don't expect much from me.

Got all 4 days. Got my hotel for the entire weekend. Got passes for my friends and my girlfriend. Pax Prime 15 I'm ready for you BITCH!

To those who didn't get tickets... Twitter has done me well 3 years in a row. Use it, and you will have success.

Wow, I only set up the twitter alert a day or two ago. I hope splitting up the 4-day pass means that more people get to go  :grouphug:

Never got the alert! But thanks Zenprime for letting me know. I got two sets and then I checked my calendar. I may not be able to go this year. We'll see. Everything sold out in 30 mins...

I wasn't watching twitter yesterday, and missed the super narrow window for tickets. After missing last year I wanted to go this year. Maybe closer to the event I might find a ticket.

If not, maybe it's the perfect excuse for Bumbershoot.

Bumbershoot is taking place a week after PAX. The lineup this year is fantastic though.

Got to go last year, and had a great time. This year I have to skip. The passes sold out quickly, but I didn't even bother trying. My personal circumstances simply interfere. I'm going to be getting a new niece and a new nephew right around the time that PAX Prime 2015 happens. I've got to stay home to support the family. But it's a very good reason for missing out on this year's show, so I'm not miffed about it.

Apparently people who got hit with the 2 per ticket type glitch and went through and did another order got flagged and some got their passes cancelled. I only made 1 order and didn't get the glitch so I'm all good but that's pretty disappointing for those that did since Penny Arcade told people to go back through the queue and order again.

So Robert Khoo gave me a call today and asked if I wanted to be a part of the Omegathon. I said yes. Today was a good day. I'll try to win for #teamcag. This is gonna be one hell of a pax prime.

Seriously?! That's awesome; congrats! Looks like I'm going to have to check out more of the Omegathon this year :D

The schedule is up via Guidebook: https://guidebook.com/guide/40130/

On the Japanese side of things, Inafune has another Might No. 9 panel, IGA is doing a panel and signing, FFXIV has a lore and music panel, and the director of FFXV has a panel. Unfortunately game show night, the Giant Bomb panel, and the concerts are all at the same time  :wall:

Yeah, we saw that today and were like ugh >_<

It's weird that the schedule's not up on the actual website yet, but at least the Guidebook's there.

It sucks cause the Omegathon events are scheduled at awkward times for panels that I want to see. But when it comes down to a choice between competing for a trip to Tokyo and missing a panel its an easy choice. Only 9 days away cags GET HYPED.

Also have you guys seen the Rocket League PS4 they're giving away each day at the Rocket League tournament? Its flossy as fuuuuck.

I was sure the final round of the Omegathon would be Rocket League. Not sure if constant Rocket League tournaments make this more or less likely.

Thank you for the good luck Kas! Just so not everyone is like THIS MAN IS A LIAR my "username" during the 'thon will be Banjoboy (which is my PSN name lol) Confusing maybe but I figured it rolled off the tongue better. PAX IS IN 3 DAYS GET HYPE.

If I make the final I just hope its anything but ping pong. Hopefully its towerfall 1v1 best of 3 epic match. In that case I got it in the bag.

We're all rooting for you, DemonMaster. I'm hoping that they stream all of the Omegathon rounds. I'll be watching from here.

Its come down to me bringing my PS3 to the Sheraton to practice the next two nights on Tony Hawk/Calling All Cars. The hype is real cags *cue rocky theme music*

Good luck and have fun at PAX. Too bad I cannot go this year. I'll see some of you at South. If anyone wants to snag a Large Shirt from Sony or any of the AAA games I will pay you back!

I'm not going this year since I've moved to the East coast, but my friend is doing a panel today, Arcade Collecting; Finding, fixing, and restoring.

Aw sheeeeeeit

Not to add to the pressure, but at least some of us will be there tomorrow to watch you LITERALLY roll the competition!
Heh, yeah. bitprophet and I be wishing you good luck in person at Round 3!

Some mood music for tomorrow:

I should've posted this last night, but it won't make much of a difference at this point: the CAG Meetup RSVP list is officially CLOSED.

I already told bitprophet but as I'm sitting here in BYOC listening to the raffle I can barely keep my eyes open and I have to watch the Omegathon final still lol. I will try my best to come to the meetup but I am one tired as fuck ex-omeganaut.
