Comcast just jacked up our   DVR  from 4.99 to 24.99 a month.  So far the only one i found was

Magnavox MDR557H/F7 1Terabyte Hard Disc Drive Digital Video Disc Recorder for 250

I work for a Comcast warehouse, and I believe you have to buy a Tivo if you don't want to rent out a comcast DVR. which is around $200ish. What you need is rent a Cable Card from comcast which is like $10/month to work with the Tivo.

I would suggest you talk to a sales rep in your area to make sure the DVR works before you buy it. Also you can not buy a Comcast DVR off ebay, Comcast does not sell any of their Cable boxes and they will take it away from you.

Cable is getting out of control, this reminds of a song from "The Boss." Too old for some of you, >_<

yea it is now that comcast and time is joining...

Last 3 years was giving this promo

Digital tv 40 per month

25 download 20 per month

DVR 5 per month

Its going to

TV 65 per month

25 download 50 per month

DVR 25 per month

140 per month i told them they can shove their crap for that price, i can go back to free TV and going up to redbox

A cable card still is $2.50 from TWC. The problem with Tivo is that it costs $200 to buy and $500 for lifetime access or $700 total. Lifetime access is for the device not you the customer.

It would begin to pay for itself after about 3 years or so, assuming the monthly cost to rent a comparable DVR from your cable company is $20. (In OP's case, about 30 months at $25.) Plus, you could always sell it.

Or, just buy a used one on eBay.

Did TiVo change plans or something? I paid for the initial box but I pay just $12.50 a month, which is the cheapy, no frills plan.

I have cable in a few rooms in my house. Can I take out a cable card from one of my cable boxes and put it in a Tivo? Is the card a plug and play device or do I need to get a new one from my cable company?

Just go with a Sling Box. Its $299 with 500 gig HDD. You can access your show anywhere even if you are away from home like out of the country.

cable company hooked me up with tv with net for 70 per month  and then a 20 buck rebate  no  DVR though but i dont need it any longer
