Announced at the end of today's Nintendo Direct Micro, the sequel to Bravely Default will be released in the US and Europe in 2016, as Bravely Second: End Layer.

Bravely Second's story takes place two and a half years after the original. Agnes Oblige, now the Pope of the Crystal Orthodoxy Church, is kidnapped by the mysterious Emperor Oblivion. The task of rescuing her is left to the Church's Stalwart Aurochs (Three Musketeers), the bodyguards of the Pope: Yew Geneolgia, Janne Angard, and Nikolai Nikolanikov. On the journey, Yew runs into Magnolia Arch, a Ba'al Buster from the Moon, and along with some old faces, they seek to save Agnes and stop Emperor Oblivion's plans.

Expect to see some new Jobs, some new locations, and a few new features. In particular is the chain battle system, where if you defeat a random mob in one turn, you have a choice of immediately fighting another mob for a multiplier bonus, with the caveat of your BP carrying over. Oh, and from the import impressions so far, it sounds like this game's mid/endgame doesn't pull the same level of shenanigans as Default's endgame, though it does reuse plenty of assets from the first game.

Characters:

Obviously, the following information will contain some spoilers for the first game.

Yew Geneolgia - Known as the Soaring Falcon, he's a part of the Three Musketeer-esque Stalwart Aurochs. Yew inherits the roles of both Tiz and Ringabel, as he's the protagonist and the owner of a Journal that serves as the Bestiary and Mission Log.

Magnolia Arch - A Ba'al Buster (Demon Hunter) who hails from the Moon. She was a major focus of the secret cutscene from the first game, single-handedly defeating a demon with the time-stopping Bravely Second ability and saving Tiz from a stasis tank.

Edea Lee - Now the head of the Eternian Knights, she was also investigating Agnes' disappearance. She eventually joins the party after saving them and realizing that they have the same mission.

Tiz Arrior - After being separated from the Celestial and passing out, Tiz was captured by a mysterious organization and kept alive in a stasis tank for their experiments, until he was rescued by Magnolia.

Agnes Oblige - The Pope of the Crystal Orthodoxy Church, she is quickly kidnapped by Emperor Oblivion during the signing of a peace treaty between the Orthodoxy and Eternia. She takes on Airy's role in this game, somehow communicating with the party from Oblivion's floating castle to serve as a Menu Guide.

Janne Angard - One of the Stalwart Aurochs, Janne worked his way up from the slums, eventually becoming known as the The Blazing Wolf.

Nikolai Nikolanikov - Originally a priest for the Crystal Orthodoxy, he recruited Yew and Janne for the Stalwart Aurochs and served as a sort of mentor.

Emperor Oblivion - The mask-wearing antagonist, who kidnaps Agnes for some nefarious purpose. He has apparently partnered up with a Cryst-Fairy clad entirely in black. Quite strong in his own right, as he easily defeats Braev Lee, Alternis Dim, Yew, and Agnes at the treaty signing.

I hope the second game is better towards the mid game. I got kinda bored with the first game halfway through. Still need to beat it.

With that said I will be buying this regardless, and I hope they do another LE.

I cant wait for this one. Just like everyone else I hope that they dont make the entire second half of the game just replaying the same stuff over and over and over and over... I hope for the third in the series they bring it to home consoles so I can play it on the big screen.

Its still sad how this year I have played more on my 3DS than on PS4, XBO, Wii U combined. Doesnt seem like this trend will end any time soon.

Figure i'd give this a bump since the game is out today.   For those who still need more people for the moon base stuff, my info is:

I'll add mine later when I have access to my 3ds. Mine is 000133173523

My GS dlc was on my receipt, word is that people who got the CE from Best Buy when it first went up probably wont get the DLC unless you PM their forum support (as it was a separate item in the cart)

I bought it digitally on gamestop.com, and redeemed it on the eshop (the day before it came out), am I going to get the eshop dlc instead?

Just a heads up; All pre order DLC costumes are available in game for 990,000 pg. Might save people a trade if they dont mind spending the pg in game for them. I dont think the costumes do anything for your stats (maybe Im wrong?) so could be just worth waiting until available in game.

After 4 days, they FINALLY got back to me and responded with Thank you for contacting GameStop, I'm sorry you have had an issue with your order 8160413195214283D. I understand this can be frustrating, and I apologize for any problem this may have caused you. But no worries, I'm here to help with the status of your order for Bravely Second: End Layer. According to our records this order has already been delivered to you and the content number is: all I could do was facepalm and respond with I'm not asking about the base game code, I'm asking about the DLC code that was promised on your site, AS I SAID IN MY QUESTION

Well, I called in, which I would've done in the first place, if their site didn't have Email as the ONLY OPTION, and got it resolved

This sequel has a lot of jokes that feel quite forced. Also, waaay too much gravy. I can't help but wonder what the Japanese counterparts to these are. Since Nintendo published here, I feel like they were changed to be more Americanized and they fell rather flat. Reminds me of a couple characters in Fire Emblem Fates, such as the pickle fanatic. As for the sidequests, I'm pretty iffy on whether or not I enjoy the way they've been implemented. It feels like they're just there to bring back characters from the last game and then discard them after it's over so they can bring back past jobs. I guess what bugs me is the whole asterisk lore (or rather lack there of) as it doesn't really make sense to me.

Everything else about it is more or less the same as the first game, which is to say that it's enjoyable. I particularly enjoy Magnolia and her dynamic with Edea.

Just needed to rant a bit because while I enjoy it, there's a lot of little things that are bugging me.

I hate how in this game Edea's English VA sounds like she's talking through a tin can, and has a lisp all of the sudden (actually many of the female characters sound like they were recorded through a tin can.  Anyway, I've been grinding a ton of the classes so friend me if you want to abilink to me.
