Hey guys just wanted some peoples inputs. I had a $200 gift card with amazon and I was thinking on buying the new 3DS XL. But I am a few months late. Im not in a hurry to buy a handheld, but Ive had this gift card for a while. Should I wait for the next handheld that maybe nintendo brings out? I feel like this release was somewhat like the DSi. Sorry guys I just want to spend my giftcard wisely. Thanks for your help.

You don't mention if you have a handheld now.

If you don't own any version of 3DS and you're contemplating one, get the N3DS. The load times are better, all online activity is much faster, and you're future proofed for games that require the hardware and amiibos work with it natively if that is important to you.

I replaced my Zelda LBW Gold 3DSXL with an N3DS but I kept the Zelda one and I home pass with them and the slowness of the regular one is painful to watch. Saving and downloading is much faster on N3DS.

There are tons of great games available now and lots of legacy games that work on the current platform. Not sure what is next for Nintendo (or anyone else for that matter) as far as handhelds but you're missing out not playing what is currently available.

If you already have a 3DS, you don't have to upgrade to an N3DS unless you want to play Xenoblade Chronicles on the go or use amiibos in 3DS games like SSB or CodeNameSteam. There will be an adaptor sold later this year to give original 3DSs amiibo capability.

Best of luck in your decision.

IMHO, the 3D effect is a lot better (as in easier to perceive the 3D) in the New 3DS than the old units.  Definitely worth the upgrade.

I believe Nintendo confirmed that the 3DS will work with the upcoming NX, so I doubt we'll be getting a brand new system anytime soon.

I concur, I was in the same boat (already owned a 3DSXL) and was lucky enough to get the new zelda N3DSXL - mainly for the face tracking 3D.

It is certainly worth it. Plus you can sell your previous handheld, and recoup some of the funds.
