Buying Gold and Silver

I am starting to have a large interest in purchasing gold and silver with hopes of someday selling it for a profit.  Is there anyone with advice or experience and knowledge in this department?  I'd really like to know the best places to order from or go to physically and buy from in person.  I've been keeping an eye on the market and silver seems to be a wise investment right now.  Am I wrong?  Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. 

They are historically terrible investments.  I don't invest in rocks and unless you are investing a very small part of your portfolio I wouldnt take the risk.
