Today I was told by a customer service agent and supervisor that Target will no longer price match any item sold on Amazon.com if it has the prime badge next to the price.

The supervisor said that is because the prime badge signifies the price is only for prime members.

I tried to reason with him that the prime badge only signifies that the item is eligible for prime shipping if you're a prime member but he even went as far as to say the computers wouldn't allow it.

I"m hoping this is just an instance of an incorrect application... since they are incorrectly assuming that the prime badge impacts the price.

Can anyone clarify? Supervisor was adamant this was the new policy even though it makes no sense to me.

Yeah I can't confirm or provide a helpful argument, but I will say that that is rather disappointing.

First of all, I didn't know I could get price matches based on Amazon prices.

Second of all, Prime isn't even always the cheapest options, so if they're going that route, what about you going to "other sellers" and finding said product for cheaper (with higher shipping), would they still match sans shipping costs?

Yeah they were spewing out B.S. They would be right to deny you if it was a Prime only deal, but as you said the Prime badge just denotes that it is eligible for Prime. Anything can be "allowed" in the computer, an L.O.D. can zero out or adjust the price of anything.

I would contact Target and say you were unable to shop with confidence. You can also ding them on one of their surveys. Little known secret: Target surveys are detrimental much like Gamestop surveys. Even if they get as high as a "7" rating it comes back to them in a negative manner.

They only price match first party sellers. They aren't going to price match a rogue third party company that could be liquidating or is a scam, out of stock, incorrect stock numbers etc., etc.

OP, you could log out of your Amazon account when you try to price match...that way it will still show Amazon's price, but it will only denote that it qualifies for free super saver shipping with a $35+ order.
