Though it’s only the first Gears of War getting an overhaul with new art, cutscenes and a complete multiplayer package running at 1080p and 60fps (the campaign is still 30fps), Ultimate Edition players can download the Xbox 360 versions of the entire stop-and-pop trilogy - plus one prequel.

You’ll have to play Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on Xbox Live sometime between its launch on August 25 and December 31, 2015 to unlock the bonus downloads of Gears of War 1: Not Even Remotely Ultimate Edition, Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3 and Gears of War: Judgment (the one developed by People Can Fly). The games should become available for play and download as soon as Microsoft rolls out the first wave of backwards-compatible Xbox One games this fall.
Sounds like a good deal to me.

That is honestly the best news I've heard this year as far as video game releases go. I'm a big Gears fan, Also a fan of Call Of Duty but these past few years have been disappointing. This years judging by the game play videos doesn't look any different. I personally played the GOW Ultimate Edition Beta, It was a little choppy but all in all the Gears we've all come to know and love!

I am intrigued that I may not have to even buy Gears Ultimate but rather rent/ buy-return a used copy and still get all the free digital titles. I still have the discs of each of the 4 games but having them digitally is something I would really like. I wonder if those free digital copies however will only be accessible from the Ultimate Edition's interface? If that is the case I will just buy it anyway as I did enjoy the beta and it looked awfully purdy : P

Not sure if this is right or not, but the DLC skins for GoWUE seem to show as compatible for GoW4, if that's true that's pretty sweet.

What if I have already bought Gears 2 and 3 digitally? Since MS has said all 1st pary games will end up being backwards compatible, the purchase isn't required to play the 360 games, right? It's more for people who never bought them?

I mentioned this on the Gears forum, but I wonder if there will be a way to make backup saves for 3 and Judgment to prevent losing campaign progress, Ranks and unlocks.  Backwards compatibility only offers you cloud saving.  Could be problematic.
