I'm new to the Android universe and just want to make sure I don't get hit with any cell usage when I'm overseas. On my Galaxy S5 is all I need to do have the International Data Roaming box unchecked and I'm good? Should I also uncheck the Standard Data box as well to be safe? While I'm doing that what about the Enhanced 4G LTE services box?

Thanks for the help in advance. Any other tip/s to be safe against data charges is appreciated.

airplane mode it. your apps n stuff might do background data things. or at the very least turn off mobile data.

Um airplane mode will shut off everything including calling, which is not exactly what the opp described wanting. I know it says any but then the post focuses on data.

Do you want to avoid all cell usage including calls and texts or just data?

If just data then simply shut off the data under settings. You can still use Wi-Fi and you don't risk any accidental data usage that your shutting of roaming data may accidentally (but very unlikely) may hit a tower where it doesn't think it's roaming.

You can also call your carrier to either enable or disable international calling and texting. Keep in mind sometimes it is cheaper to use your cell to call home depending on the rates and where you are. Or you may want to get an international calling card overseas and just call from the hotel. Depending on how long you will be gone and how many countries you are visiting, you may want to pick up a cheap pay as you go phone for over there to carry around for local calls and the like.

Some phones (like my Ativ S) allow you to turn on Wi-Fi in Airplane mode.

Are you sure yours doesn't ?
It really shouldn't. That's not an airplane mode. The Wi-Fi really should be shut off when they tell you to shut down all devices during take off and landing.
