My plan just ended today with Sprint and so I'm looking to break away from their service.

But there are plenty of options that are available now that weren't there years ago and was wondering if somebody could give me a direction to find the best value.

Was using a Samsung S4. Loved it. But I have no strong feelings towards Android, iOS, Windows and whatever Amazon calls their OS. I use no more than 500mins a month with less than 100texts and 2gbs of data.

Biggest thing I use my phone for is a GPS and to lurk the deals section here. Cheaper, still allowing me the freedom of the above, the better.

If you are looking for a bargain, no contract phone, I think the new Moto G is hard to beat. Waterproof, decent camera, decent processor, accepts Mini-SD cards. For under $200.

Tmobile or Metro PCS is your best bet. Carriers are starting to move away from contracts anyways and those companies(well, they're actually the same one) offer the best bang for your buck especially if you live near a major city. The days of "cheap" phones with contracts are coming to an end.

I just happened to see this last night for $190 if you don't mind refurbs http://goo.gl/tFwTnn. It will take microSD as well.

Then there is the Moto G as someone else mentioned http://www.motorola.com/us/products/moto-g for $180. If you want to spend a little more you can get the Moto X Pure http://www.motorola.com/us/products/moto-x-pure-edition for $400 (it can be financed through Motorola if you qualify). You can also buy non-customizable ones from Best Buy and Amazon.

Tmobile or Metro as others stated are good choices for cheaper service. Tmobile has greatly improved their network the last few years, you could also finance a phone through them too. Go with which ever service has better coverage where you work/live.

I've had T-mo for about 2 years ago and their service coverage is decent and the speeds are good... and they're working on upgrading their network so hopefully that means better coverage. My only real complaint is how bad their CS is.

The rest of my family recently joined T-mo due to my recommendation (they were all on various, smaller carriers) and I've been trying to join in that plan since it basically cuts my cost in half and keeps everything the same. We've made 2 trips to T-mo stores and 5 calls and we've just been getting the run around. We've been told during each attempt that what we're trying to do is possible but they can't and that we'd need to contact some other department or visit a local location. Completely useless CS.

As for phones, I've had 3 different Android phones over the last 4 years. All of them have been the mid-range phones ($300-400) and I haven't been all that satisified with any of them. All of them seem to last perfectly fine for 6 months to a year before they suddenly start to showcase problems. My current phone is the Nexus 5, which has been the best of the 3, but even that's showing odd issues where the OS will kill the battery on idle (less than 4 hours), wifi or data will stop working, BT stops working, etc.

It's nice having control over everything but my next phone will likely be a iPhone just to see how it goes, probably older model since they're so damn expense.

Using and iphone 4 for years. it does its job.  However Fire phone  can be gotten for cheap b/s sales for it are bombed. Got mine for 130 + tax that include year of prime. The 2nd review on amazon of the fire phone has instructions on how to side load google play on it and that seems the way to go if your invested in google eco system.

Don't Know if it is still going on, But for a while the fire phone was 99 cents at at&t with a contract and $99 for the phone itself. I remember my friend got one as a phone because it was so cheap and loved it.
