Out of all the externals I have owned I have had 4 seagtes die on me within a year or 2, switched to a wd externals and have not had an issue. Same with PC drives I had 2 seagates die me and the only wd drive to die on me I killed(kid got ahold of it while I was cleaning out my PC).
I have 3 wd externals now 2 3tb drives one of which runs 24/7 for the past 3 years and its still just fine and a 1tb on my wiiu that I've had on there for about 6 months and its fine. The other 3tb is hooked up to my xbone and is only a month or 2 old with no issue.
All the seagates started having issues around 6mo to a year and none made it past 2 years.
To me though i think its more where u buy them that matters, all the seagates came from Walmart who just throw everything in the trucks. The wd drives came from bestbuy.
