Out Of Print Wii U games

CAGiversary!
I'm sorry if this question has been asked before, but can someone list the OOP and hard to find Wii U games?

I don't have a Wii U yet, plan to get one soon, and don't want to miss out on games that might go or have already gone OOP.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, just about every 1st party and Nintendo published Wii U games released in 2012-2013, so that would also include Lego City Undercover and NSMBU as notable harder to find titles.  Technically that includes Nintendoland, but there are still some bundles out there that have the physical copies (I believe), and that wouldn't be hard to find in good shape used anyways.

Note that NSMBU and NSLU are being bundled together this fall, if you don't really care about securing them individually.

Yeah I forgot about that after I posted it, but I guess the purist may want the stand alone copies.  Hopefully they'll have an ample supply of this release, never picked up either of the two separate or bundled console package releases.

Thanks Guys. I bought WindWaker HD and Captain Toad this week. I'll start buying these games as I come across them. I did see that the NSMBU and NSLU will be bundled in the fall. I'll definitely be getting that.

Lots of games. Wii Sports Club can also be added to the list.

Warriors Orochi is a old one but a good one if you don't have access to the PS4/X1 versions. Even has online co-op.

Deus Ex is OOP but cheap, grabbed it recently with the announcement of the next gen version coming out in Feb.

If your interested in any Wii U games and they are cheap I would grab them. The system is going to sell less then the Gamecube hence games are going to be even harder to find in the long run if there is any demand.

Agreed. The Wii U, no matter how much anyone boasts about its library of AAA games, seems well headed to being one of the most commercially irrelevant pieces of hardware the videogame industry has seen, and all signs point to it having a shorter lifespan than the Sega Dreamcast (another great console to some, and even that had significantly better third-party support).

Thankfully, Nintendo has the 3DS/2DS industry to prop up its flailing home console division, but it has to right the ship the next go-around since the handheld market is radically evolving in a direction that favors less and less the need for a dedicated game console.

In other words, Nintendo can't think their handheld sales will save them next time.

As for rare Wii U games, Hibiki's mantra is right. Forget what is rare/not rare. Frankly, ANY Wii U game is probably rare, If you want to play it, get it. Given Nintendo's policy of not republishing games (heck, with Fatal Frame, they're not even publishing their own games), and that so few of Nintendo's games sell through to a point of requiring additional print-runs, it certainly encourages one to pick their titles up as soon as they hit a reasonable pricepoint.

Next up for me is Donkey Kong. *Finally* picked up Hyrule Warriors a few months back.

Very true. Now, when the demand for older Wii U games is still low, is the time to be picking up some of these titles for very little before any sort of collector demand boosts the price. It is also true that you shouldn't just buy any game just because it's rare. A crap rare game is still a crap game, no matter how much it goes for on the second-hand market.

I've been meaning to pick up Hyrule Warriors. I've just never, NEVER seen it on sale. $60, not matter where I look. But I have a feeling it will be the next out-of-print Nintendo entry. It probably hasn't gone that route yet because of the DLC support that Nintendo has been providing for it. The fact that it was co-developed with another company probably affected things as well. I'll probably go ahead and drop the money soon.

I was lucky enough to find a used copy of Pikmin 3 over the weekend. Had to drop $50 on it, but that wasn't unreasonable, and it was in decent condition. Aside from that, my collection of Wii U titles has been shaping up well. Most of the OOP titles were already in my collection before they went OOP.

Seriously though, now is the time for collectors to keep their eyes peeled on the Wii U and it's library of titles.

I just checked Amazon and they had Hyrule Warriors for $47.99. I just said screw it and dropped it in my cart for that price. He who hesitates is lost.

Yeah I was kicking myself after passing up on excellent condition copies of Pikmin 3 and Lego City Undercover at a local Half Price Books ($30 each). I should of just bought them either way, could of returned them later...

I'll wait a bit longer to see if Captain Toad or NES Remix Pack have any BF deals, otherwise those will be next on my list. I still don't have MK8 or SMB, but those have sold well enough that second hand copies won't be too hard to find down the road.

Yeah, both of those games are evergreen. They'll be possible to buy for as long as the Wii U is on store shelves. You won't have trouble finding them any time soon. I've been waiting on getting Splatoon, but it's looking like it might end up being another one of those games that gets consistent support, so it probably won't be going away anytime soon either.

I picked up Lego City: Undercover while it was still available at retail. I actually started playing it a little about a week ago, and it is quite solid so far, as an entry in the Lego series. I also didn't wait on getting Bayonetta 2 when it came out, and would urge anyone who doesn't have it yet to start looking. If it isn't OOP yet, it likely soon will be. It's got all of the same qualities as a lot of the other OOP titles.

Wii U has already practically doubled the lifespan of my dearly departed Dreamcast. Dreamcast released on 9/9/99 and was discontinued in spring 2001. Wii U is a month away from having been on the market for 3 years.

Even if you go by the Japenese release, which was November 98 (2 years 4 months), the Wii U has surpassed that.

Calling it "one of the most commercially irrelevant pieces of hardware the videogame industry has seen" is very shortsighted. It ignores massive flops in the industry like the 3DO, Jaguar, and hell even Nintendo's own Virtual Boy.

What people seem to forget is that Nintendo is still making money, even in 3rd place. Sure they'd like to be first and are disappointed, but as long as they're making money they can afford to take their time and ride out the Wii U a bit longer.

Bingo

As long as they're making at least some kind of profit they'll keep doing what they're doing. They don't have any compunctions about being the #1 selling console anymore. The times of the 90s console war has passed for them, they operate independently of the other 2.

Dammit. Just bought a refurbished copy of New Play Control Pikmin from Nintendo's site hoping to finally start the Pikmin trilogy. Can't believe Nintendo would let a big title for them like Pikmin 3 go OOP.

Wish I would've picked up Wii Sports Club.

It looks like Bayonetta 2 is on sale right now at GameStop. I don't think its out-of-print yet, but it's the kind of game that could very well go in that direction in the near future. And the price they are quoting is quite nice, especially considering that title comes with 2 games.

I know the game has only been out for a day, but as of this posting only Gamestop.com has Devil's Third for shipping. My Amazon order was delayed by a day and It's not even availble to be sold/shipped through Amazon.com anymore. This has the *potential* to be the lowest shipped first party Nintendo title in awhile. The game is not as bad as everyone says and the online is legit, but it is hard to justify the $60 price tag. Wish I got in on the dell.com $30 deal.

It's sold out on bestbuy.com as well and no best buy stores are carrying it. My GameStop only got one copy in stock, and I bought it.... Haven't played it yet.

Yeap still sold out everywhere except Gamestop.com, hell no US sellers right now on eBay.

Granted you have to give Gamestop $60. A few local stores have it around me but are 20+ miles drive away.

Speaking of which Pikmin 3 loose price back to around $60, Lego City Undercover $40ish and Wii Sports Club $40ish. Don't forget Hello Kitty Cruisers!

My pick for next rare/valuable game would probably be Rodea Sky Soldier but I think It's going to be awhile before it happens.

Best Buy support told me it was a "limited" item and most likely won't be getting any more copies. Guess Gamestop is getting my money this time.

I'd like to pick up the Lego City Undercover game, but I haven't seen any copies of it used around. I've heard that it's one of the better Lego titles and I am always looking to expand my Wii U library with exclusive titles.

I heard it's quite a good game outside of the loading times. I don't think it will get another print, Nintendo seems to not care much for more prints especially with Wii U titles.

Devils Third is sold out everywhere online. There are 10 stores in my state that have a few copies (Gamestop) once those are dried out that means Nintendo is going to have to do another run. With the ability to sell games digitally on the eShop It's going to take more persuasion for Nintendo to do another run of copies. You figure in 5k Gamestops between US/Canada, 400+ copies from their online store, Amazon, Dell etc. you are looking at a game that got under 10,000 for a print (9,000?) you have to wonder if Nintendo is really gonna bother.

10k copies + $30 profit each copy would be 300,000 for Nintendo. A decent chunk of change but would obviously have to guarantee a sellout at $55-$60 a pop. Granted I'm no expert on the amount Nintendo would make off each unit sold, I'd say even more since It's first party (What did Itagaki get out of the deal? They also got to do the free to play PC version out in spring/summer eventually).

This doesn't particularly matter to me. I'm not such a rabid collector that I feel the need to have "complete" runs of games for particular systems. I'm mainly interested in rare games with critical merit, or have something interesting about their design. I made certain to pick up a copy of Pikmin 3 and Lego City: Undercover because they are good games. By most accounts Devil's Third is a stinker. I won't be losing any sleep over it if I don't ever get a copy.

Gohastings has it listed as pre order still.  I don't know if they are getting copies or not but I might give it a try.  I find it hard to believe this is out of print and hope for more soon.  Has anyone asked gamestop if they are getting more?

With you on that. Curiosity makes me want to play it, but the reviews make clear there's very little of merit/good design here to justify the trek/hunt to get it. I like rare games, too, but usually it's rare AND good or fun. This seems to be neither, so I'm fine skipping it.

I do see this one fetching ridunkulous prices moving forward, though. It's silly that by artificially curbing supply, Nintendo is creating demand in a game that is clearly among critics one of (if not THE) worst game to come out this year and probably the worst game published by Nintendo since PN03.

I'm sure I'll come across Lego City used sometime soon. I think I may actually check a few of my local used game shops for a copy soon.

Devil's Third is going to end up being one of the rarest games on the Wii U, I highly doubt Nintendo will reprint the game as they clearly don't care about it. They put out releases for ast week and Devil's Third was buried at the bottom of the list under new themes for the 3DS. I have a friend who is a manager at Gamestop and he said they didn't even get any copies of the game in his store. It's one of those games that I'd buy for MSRP or less if I saw it just because the collector in me couldn't resist, but I have zero desire to actually play the game.

I almost got a copy yesterday after calling and having them hold me the one copy they said they had. Went there and found out they sold the copy they were holding.

GameStop is the best company in the world.

I want bayonetta 2 but didn't want to pay retail (59.99) but now I can only find it new online from one source besides eBay where the prices are getting very high and quantity low.  Should I buy or do you guys think Gamestop will get it back in stock?  Also if you live in Colorado I know a couple of places that have Pikmin 3 in stock if interested.

Never mind my local game store had a brand new copy for 39.99 and a used copy for 29.99, so I am set.  Now i just need to get a Devils Third.

Bayonetta 2 is going to be re-printed... as a stand alone title.

So if you want Bayo 2 w/ Bayo 1 combo you might as well grab them ASAP. You will still be able to get Bayonetta 1 was a download but right now It's $30.

Pikmin 3 (plus several other titles) is being re-released under the "Nintendo Selects" brand next month.
This should be a relief for anyone looking to get some of these harder-to-find games. It doesn't really affect me, as I already have all of the games they're listing. But most of them are solid titles, so I'm pleased. It's better that these titles be accessible without having to hunt for them. Ocarina of Time for the 3DS is another title that people will probably be pleased to get at a reasonable price.

Will pick up Ocarina of Time for playing and keep my non-nintendo select sealed ;)  Will pick up Donkey Kong and Mario on Wii U for $20 Each :)

Happy to see the reprints.   Game and Wario, though, looks like it'll be one of the rarest Wii U games around (well, next to Devil's Turd).  No way is Game and Wario getting a reprint.

The United Kingdom got a different round of Nintendo Selects: New Super Mario Brothers U+ Luigi U, Nintendo Land, Lego City Undercover, Wind Waker HD and Wii Party U. They didn't get Mario 3D World, NES Remix or Pikmin 3 though. Hopefully this is a sign to come when they do the second wave in the Fall and we get Lego City Undercover.

It might. It is a first-party Nintendo title, after all. But I wouldn't hold my breath. As I recall, it wasn't quite as critically acclaimed when it came out, and I'm not sure there is nearly as much demand for that title as there are for others. Still, it's not impossible.

It's certainly possible, but I don't see it. Commercially, the game was a disaster, and critically, well, you said it. There's no demand for this game. I can't even recall the last time a console Wario ever got a reprint and I'm fairly certain no Wario game has ever gotten the Nintendo Selects treatment.

Wario World on GameCube got a players choice release and that one didn't get amazing reviews

Has there been any word on the Selects lineup getting the games that got a European release? Like Lego City Undercover or Wii Party U?

Wanna pick those two up but not at $60+.

Wii Party U sucks, I don't know why you would want to pick it up, I picked it up when it came out and barely played it.
