Didn't see a thread for this so I decided to start one. Picked it up last night and only played for about 2 hours so far. All I have to say is I suck at stealth. I'm trying to be sneaky but keep getting caught. Blasting everyone away seems easier and faster.

Did you play Ground Zeroes? Binoculars are your best friend. This game requires a lot more planning when going into an area compared to it's predecessors and the AI can see you coming a mile away. Take the time to mark the troops and it'll make it a bit easier. hth?

I played Ground Zeros but only did a single play through and I really don't remember much. I should've popped it back in a few days ago to refresh myself.

My problem is I'm just too impatient. Like you said I should probably take more time staking out locations. I always try being stealthy, but there's always that one guy that spots me and the jig is up. Then I'm like fuck it, everyone dies now. I have a feeling that's going to be the whole game for me.

Got my stuff today! Now to find time to play. Ohh im excited.

Yeah, it definitely seems like this game will take lots of patience. I was watching a stream on Twitch earlier and this guy was trying to take over a particular base for over an hour and a half before I quit watching.

Hey JWZZR can you hide your post in a spoiler. The game just came out and what you said could spoil it for people.

On the brightside, I think you can still S-rank missions using that method if you care about that stuff. It might just be one of those things where you have to go back with a better loadout if you don't have the skill to do it barebones. I'm going to try an tackle episode 1 tonight and see what happens. One thing's for sure: no idroid is going to make it TOUGH!

This was the draw for me, no longer do I feel like once I get spotted, I might as well reset the level or checkpoint. In GZ, I swear I was CONSTANTLY getting spotted, but then I would shoot some fools and run like a fiend, eventually it cooled down and I could continue. I think we (i.e. the gaming collective) believe you have to play MGS in stealth because that's where its roots are, but it would appear that Kojima designed this game to suit the more "western" style of gameplay while still giving a stealth option.

That's a really good point. Now that I think of it I played MGS4 in a similar fashion. I'll keep on doing an initial stealth run but I guess I shouldn't concern myself with it too much. I just don't feel like going on an hour long stake out when I can complete the mission in 15 minutes.

I played a couple more missions last night and I am really really glad that I'm not bothering with going for all S-ranks, optional tasks, etc. Much more fun for me to just play stealth and action if I get busted.

I feel you on that one, man. Took 80 minutes to finish episode 1 and I spent a crap load of time at the end waiting for a group that was taking their sweet ass time walking towards me. I'm doing a replay to complete all the side missions and man, the tranq and fulton makes things a lot easier on the replay for a no kill playthrough. Don't have to worry about people being woken up or found.

having tons of fun with the game, but yeah, some stuff in the game now takes like 2 hours to complete and i am running out of the diamonds/gold stuff points, so i guess they did want to support the need of buying $$$coins$$$.

I'm 10 hours in.... Game is pretty spectacular so far. The presentation, gameplay, music, everything.

I expected it to be good but wow.

EDIT: Only 7% game completion with my 10 hours.

I'm getting over the learning curve finally. Did several missions last night and had some success. Started using C4, smoke grenades, cardboard boxes, and magazines for distracting enemies. I don't spend much time on the stake out. I just wing it now. Sometimes I get out without a scratch, but other times it's guns a blazin'. I feel like I'm getting the best of both worlds.

Fantastic game overall. Only gripe is the wait times between missions.

There's stealth camo? That would make things much easier.

Also I'm no longer a chick. I'm a Bat now. Not sure if that's a good thing.

Love this game. It's cool how 15 minutes into the game after the prologue, you are in the open world and free to do whatever you want. Overwhelming in a good way.
I'm 7 hours in at 6%. A far cry from Arkham Knight were I went from 50% to 75% in a single night.

Is anyone going back and re-doing missions for missed objectives? Is it worth it?
Barely finished with mother base mission and unlocked mission option. Itll start redoing mission once i finish the story. Redoing missions will burn you out easily specially if you want to get all objectives all at once. And i think itll be easier to do the missions once you have more upgrades/options right? Hehe!

Also im glad i got the guide.-always nice to have a tool/ something to help in this weird open world game.

I've completed them to get more heroism, currently at 110K. The more heroism you have, better the quantity and quality of volunteers show up to work for you. After every mission or side op, I usually average four or more elite soldiers (A+ or higher) wanting to join. There are more effects, but that is the one I really noticed.

Also I'm no longer a chick. I'm a Bat now. Not sure if that's a good thing.
That just reflects your playstyle over the last three missions.

Other players can invade your FOB and you can fight them off. That portion of the game unlocks pretty far into the game though and servers have down a lot since launch so no opinion on it yet.

I wish I had the guide... some of these mission objectives are really hard to complete, especially the ones where you're required to extract a specialist in a large base.

Staying stealthy is also a PITA in larger bases/camps, since it's so easy to miss one roaming solider and get spotted... unless you spend a ton of time sitting around and scoping the place out.

I usually scan ever enemy near my vicinity. For the first couple of extracts i did, the soldier im looking for is near the drop off point. And for prisoners its usually where theres a lot of guards.

Prisoners are easy since they're usually tied up and stuck in a building (so far anyway).

But in one of the early missions, you need some commander from a base. I looked at a few videos to see who it was and no matter what I tried, I could not get him to show up. I just gave up after an hour of restarting the mission and trying different things.

At every location, hold-up and interrogate a soldier. They will usually mark a prisoner, blueprint, prisoner, specialist, or material on your map.

Some mission objectives may be difficult at the moment. Just come back later when you have better equipment.

I had a weird one with a side op where I had to rescue 2 prisoners.  The first person I interrogated told me where the 1st prisoner was, but every other person in the area just kept pointing me to processed materials or specialists.  For some reason, my buddy couldn't scope him either but luckily my sonar ability found him on the roof of a big building.

Do not use quiet on mission 29 or 42. Apparently it can lead to a game breaking bug.
This makes me laugh, not because of the bug, but because I'm still on mission 6. I think I'm starting my second day cycle and have only gotten past 3 guard posts. I'm trying to take my time but keep getting caught and having to hide. I hate how much I love this game.

I have nearly 40 hours played and am on mission 22. I figured the missions ended at 30, but nope.

Sounds like your play style is similar to mine. I'm more likely to restart the mission if I'm caught then use lethal force, lol.

I can't imagine how many hours I'll have played when I actually finish the story at this rate.

Alright, well -- the gameplay is flawed to hell but what MGS isn't? Beat it last night and was very well satisfied with what it was getting at. Very cool game.

I barely touched the game this past week. Still on mission 7. I need to play catch up but I'm so busy with work.
Same here. I haven't finished mission 6 yet. At the rate I'm going, I'll be lucky to beat the game by November lol.
