Where does steam announce these free games? Looks like they do it every so often.

This version is pretty bad, it doesn't have native controller support. But New N Tasty is also half off, so 10 bux, and it's a fantastic remake. It's not a low-effort cash-grab, they completely remade it from the ground up, even with remade cutscenes.

Well this game came out in 97/98, so having no native controller support is to be expected and in no way makes this game "bad". Oddworld Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus are classics that have held up very well not only gameplay wise, but graphically as well.

I have been trying to post Topic like this whenever steam does the FREE Games for 24 hours. The last few we actually really nice. Amnesia: the dark decent and Race the Sun.Where does steam announce these free games? Looks like they do it every so often.
Hoping to start an official topic instead of just making new ones for you guys, so no one misses out on them.

Except this was ported to Steam not that long ago. It was part of the "Oddboxx" which also had a pretty broken version of Stranger's Wrath until it got the HD version that had been on PSN for, I think, literally years beforehand.
Steam version also had multiple issues, such as save corrupting, which might be fixed now, but I'm not sure.
I'm not disagreeing that the game itself is fantastic, I own Oddysee and Exoddus on pretty much every platform they were made for -- but this version is not even close to the best. Of course, even so, free is free, and if it helps introduce anyone to the joys of Oddworld, this will have done its job. I just fear that the poor nature of this port would do the opposite.
(also, buying New N Tasty will maybe help bring a remake of Exoddus and The Brutal Ballad of Fangus Klot to life!)

The PC version of Stranger's Wrath HD was only released 9 months after the PSN version, not years.

I got the Oddbox years ago. Is it even worth playing the original or should I just go for the remake (I'll wait for at least 75% off, regardless).

I would say the original is worth playing if you play the PS1 version, otherwise just wait for a bigger discount on New N Tasty. It was free for PS+ members a while ago, so I would think it'll hit 75% off on PC fairly soon.
