Taken 2

Alien

Tried to order the heat, but best buy won't let me since its high in demand so it's sold out even though it clearly says its available for store pick up. -_-

Anyone had luck actually getting Alien? Even though it's showing as in stock at local stores, I'm just seeing empty shelves.

EDIT: After talking with a CS rep, I'm calling shenanigans on Alien. I tired to do an in-store pickup at my usual store and it's "backordered" now even though the site still shows "available today." In fact, I"m seeing "available today" for every store in a 100 mile radius. However, after calling to see why I couldn't change my pick-up store on line, their side of things shows nothing but goose eggs. That price looked like an error to me and the complete disappearance of every copy in my state is lending credence to that. I only recently started shopping Best Buy again after a long time out and this is the second screwup in the past 7 days. :/

I ordered 2 copies (1 for a friend) and picked them up. This worker came by and said that's a insane deal at $3 and the girl helping me asked if there were anymore. That store was sold out before opening just from Instore pickups.

Ordered 3 DVDs for pick up. One was ready and two were backordered. I walked to the back and saw the 'backordered' copies on the shelf

Well, just my bad luck then.

Trying to get Amazon to do a price match. Will report back if it happens.

Normally I'd just let this go, but I've had an itch to watch Alien again and the most recent format I owned this on was Laserdisc which I don't have any more. :)

I got in an in-store pick up for Alien yesterday.  Hope to pick it up today :)  Will be double dipping but figured for the cool bonuses it was worth it.

I saw a couple copies of Alien at our store yesterday when I went in. So they are for sure out there! It probably helps that we're in the middle of nowhere and not a whole lot of people are in town trying to nab deals.

Picked up Spaceballs for me and the Internship for my sister. I would have picked up the Secret Life of Walter Mitty but I'd already ordered it for the same price on Amazon.

Just got back from my Best Buy, Aliens is now ringing up at $4.99.  The shipper still had the $2.99 tag on it so I got the adjustment.

It looks like it was a price mistake, luckily i picked up when they opened yesterday they only had 3 copies.

This is what I was figuring. That's why I found it highly suspicious that every copy within a 100 mile radius of me sold within a few hours of opening on Sunday.

Interesting too that BB still has my in-store pick up listed as backordered and still won't let me switch to another store even though every store in my area shows available. It will let me rebuy it at the new $4.99 price and do an in-store pickup, but it won't let me actually pickup the copy I've already bought. Maybe I'll give CS a call again, though I have a hunch I'm SOL here.

And I realize this seems like a lot of work for $2. Having worked for a few companies know for customer service, I just get curious as to how others handle issues when they come up. Not going to waste too much more time on this, but am curious as to how it will play out.

TLDR: they aren't going to honor my $2.99 order. Oh well.

So, I was going to ignore this, but then Best Buy emailed me to tell me my order was backordered and I needed to take action. Clicked the link, choose my original store, which was showing "available today" as was every other store in Indiana, and it looked like it was going through. However, about 45 minutes later, I got an update saying essentially the same thing and not letting me chose a different store now. At this point, I decided to call CS expecting nothing, which I got, but I also got a healthy side of entertainment in the process.

I actually like Best Buy's phone support people, but this guy completely knocked me off guard by straight off the bat announcing he was from Greenfield (about 30 min from Indianapolis, where I live) before I'd even volunteered where I was from. He then asks me if I feel safe living in Indy because of all the shootings (the local media has done a fantastic job of making anyone not living here think it's Dodge City) and traffic accidents. Not really wanting to go there, I joked about bad drivers and tried to move forward.

We get down to business and this prompts a bit of discussion about the Alien series. Ok. I don't mind film nerding out and I'm not really pressed for time, plus I know how mind numbing help desk jobs can be, so I'm game. We finally get to business and, as I expect, they're not going to honor the $2.99 price, so I just have him cancel it. At this point, I don't care. $2. Whatever.

Get that done, then the suggestions start. Keep in mind, I've called Best Buy but here's one of their CS people recommending Wal-Mart's Vudu to me. He even acknowledged Best Buy's own Cinema Now, but said Vudu was better. But it didn't stop there, because he then tells me about a kind of shady looking code selling website. Uhh, ok. And then it's satellite radio and at this point, I'm starting to feel like I'm walking through a flea market or something, just getting hustled left and right with all kind of questionable deals.

I kind of end the call at this point as politely as I can. Dude was nice, if overenthusiastic and maybe a tad too eager to help. At any rate, there's my answer for how Best Buy's CS is going to handle this: recommend purchasing codes for a competitor's website through a questionable looking seller. If that call was "recorded for quality and training purposes", they may have a pretty good recording for the "what not to do" section.

I too can't wait for black Friday as I have a list of films like interstellar that I'm looking to snag for 6$ or so this year !!

I picked up wrong turn 6 from this sale to complete my mom's collection. For 5$ u couldn't say no lol. Selling the uv code makes it even better for me

In addition to getting Alien earlier in the week when it was $2.99, picked up copies of Wild and The Pyramid with slips.  Almost bought both of these a few weeks ago when they were $14.99 - glad I waited!
