FREE DuckTales: Remastered on Mobile + More @ Amazon App Store / Amazon Underground

At the price of "free", you won't have to drain your money pool!

Anybody? No? I understand...

Actually... I haven't installed this yet; is it absolutely free? I see the "Amazon Underground" banner above it, which if I recall was some sort of whacky promotion where you had to allow all sorts of invasive usage permissions in order to use the app.

I tried to make a funny response too but just gave up halfway through. :(

I did download it though. Thanks OP

Actually quite a bit if games and apps are free right now.

There must be something else going on with these apps. For example I already own Monument Valley through Amazon but I can buy the Underground version as well. That says to me there's something up. The apps themselves don't list any extra permissions and the few articles I can find mostly say the catch is you have to sideload and run Amazon's app which I can't find exact permissions for.

So maybe they're tracking and data mining you (most likely) or maybe it's just an attempt to get you using more Amazon stuff. Can't really find enough information to say. It's not like Amazon doesn't regularly give away a lot of premium apps and games for free just to get you using their service. I guess since I have an HDX and I automatically get this according to the limited information on their page I'm already in for whatever badness it would bring on that front.

Found a few sources online to clear the air a bit:

http://www.tomsguide.com/us/amazon-underground-hands-on,news-21519.html

http://techcrunch.com/2015/08/26/amazon-underground-is-an-android-app-store-with-only-actually-free-apps/

"These apps will be branded as “actually free,” and it replaces the free App A Day program.

The company pays developers based on how long you use a certain app. Amazon monitors per-minute uses while developers waive in-app purchases and upfront costs. Amazon has already tried this strategy with the Kindle Unlimited subscription service — the company pays royalties to writers based on how many pages you read. It is basically the same thing with Amazon Underground, except with Android apps. This model is also reminiscent of music streaming services, such as Spotify, Apple Music and Rdio.

In the Amazon Underground app, you will also find paid apps, freemium apps as well as physical and digital goods. The entire Amazon Appstore catalog moves to the Amazon Underground app. The only addition is the “actually free” program.

Finally, Amazon says that the “actually free” program isn’t a one-off promotion and that the company is committed to this program. If developers are happy with Amazon’s compensation, it could be a great way to make Android users move away from the Play Store and switch to the Amazon’s app store."

That kind of makes sense and would then be their new we'll give you stuff to use our service over Google Play approach.

It does make it kind of tempting to try some of the mobile games that seem sort of interesting without worrying about having to pay out the ass to have a decent experience.

Before reading all this, I thought it was the opposite. Download the apps / get everyone to pay for in app content.

I think it's a good move for developers to waive Freemium / in-app purchases if they choose to going this route. It will get more people to try them like you mentioned.

Now only if Valve did this ;) GabeN make this happen!

I never heard of this Underground app until earlier this week - Amazon decided to give me $25 worth of credit to use towards it. So far, all I've purchased is the Android version of Five Nights at Freddy's.

I've been using underground for over a month now, it's definitely a good alternative in most cases...but there's a few apps that instead of making all in-app purchases free to buy, it simply disables the option altogether. This can cause problems with a few games, like the Inside Out fake bust-a-move game: I thought they would let you buy unlimited gems/currency to help with special powers, but instead they took out the option entirely, which has lead my wife to be stuck in a few levels for over a week trying to complete them without any extra powerups.

On the flipside, games that let you buy unlimited millions of coins/currency in-game just aren't fun anymore if you can defeat the whole feeling of playing to earn new things aspect, like Jetpack Joyride.

My favorite underground app that I've played so far has been Earn To Die, which didn't seem to have anything special being underground.  I beat it, then began playing Earn to Die 2 which isn't underground, and that one has been just as fun as the first.  Only difference seems to be the ads that can pop every once in a while, but some are good as they give you quite a bit of currency for watching a 30-second video (optional)

fully-on-topic: Ducktales on a smartphone sounds like hot liquid ass, control-wise.  It's been on sale for about $5 on 360 before.

Doesn't seem Amazon Underground app is compatible with the LG G3. Weird.

Edited: NVM its just not in the Play Store. Not letting it access my messsages and contacts. Screw them.

I play Ducktales with my MOGA and it works great.

It works pretty well on an Nvidia SHIELD Portable so long as the game is playable in landscape mode. I few aren't, like the Raiden collection from DotEmu. On something with a bigger, higher resolution screen they could clip the side to keep the display ratio as needed but it doesn't appear to support that, which leaves out playing on a 1080p screen via the HDMI output.

Since I don't receive messages on my SHIELD, the permissions issue isn't too bothersome there. Wouldn't put it on my phone, not the existing Amazon App store as I found it wasn't very well behaved on my previous phone.

I don't understand how Underground still isn't available on their own damn Fire Phone.
The whole point of it is to draw customers away from Google. With an Amazon Fire device of any sort, they've already got you from the start. And in the case of the phone, lets be realistic. Do you really think they're going to be doing much new development on that after the fiasco its been for them?

I know there are a lot of fans of this game. This will hold you over until we get a PC / Console Price drop :)

It's already dropped to $4.97 for the PS3 version at GameStop http://www.gamestop.com/ps3/games/ducktales-remastered/110583

Couple of stores around here have it in stock, but not sure if all of their copies are the digital version or disc version, the website says digital which is a box with a card & Disney pin in it...but this game has a digital version that comes with the Disney pin & the disc version that comes with no Disney pin iirc...

Target or TrU had PS3 digital version with pin on clearance for a while, forgot which store lol

This has been free since the beginning of the month...I think. Have it on my phone but it can get frustrating at times.
