last summer i found some cash lying in front of a person house and gave it to them since it was their money.  Well today  went with the family to a craft show. On the way out of the building i  seen this  pile of cash lying on the ground, at least 80 bucks. So i go back into the place and ask  if anyone dropped the cash. They said they would ask around

Would you

Kept the cash or turn it in.

And people  Keep your freaking money in a wallet or something  this is the 2nd time i found cash in the last 3 months

Ive had a couple instances where ive seen people drop credit cards and i quickly snatched it up and gave it back to them. But cash laying in the open, i think i would keep it unless i literally saw it fall from someone, or if it was in a wallet with ID. Not sure if you gave the money to the place that said they would ask around, but they could have easily just pocketed the money for themselves. I found a debit/credit card once in a parking lot, i took it home and just cut it up, threw it away. I read its best to do that than give it to the store that the parking lot belonged to because the customers service person could just take it for themselves.

You do know that "lying on the ground" and "inside someones wallet in their back pocket" are not the same thing, right?

was a church craft show so who knows if the people inside just pocked the cash or not..I think if it was during the week i would of kept it and took it down to the police station

I've got something crazier than that.  I went up to a Redbox, and found a green cash envelope on top of it.  I looked inside, and found a loose stack of 100's about 2 inches thick (if I had to guess it was at least 8000).  I stayed around in my car until someone came around looking for the envelope, and handed it to them.  (and yes, I know I'm a fool)

No, you did good. What did they say after you handed it to them? Did they say what it was for?

Plenty of times I've seen people drop money. Of course I always steal it and run the other direction. Even if it's $1. I have drugs to buy.

I just drove off without letting them say anything, I think I didn't want them to think I was going to steal it or something (wow this sounds like I'm lying the more I talk)

Honestly if I found $8k in an envelope, ie be terrified to touch it. Probably something illegal going on and I don't wanna piss anyone off.

It could've been a cash deposit from a business, and there are also crazy people who wait til they've saved up a few paychecks to cash them

I also couldn't tell it was that much, or what was in it, until I picked it up (I didn't touch the actual money so i have no idea how much was actually in it), I figured I could at least hold it til someone came to get it

Keep it, in reply to your scenario.

I'm actually very honest but in most scenarios I would keep it unless I was 95% sure who it belonged to. Two reasons - people are lying scum and will say anything to get a buck and in this age this isn't just limited to young people like you would think as people of any age are quite prone to doing something like this. Second reason is I live in a very drug ridden area (heroin, what a surprise) so you'd have about a dozen junkies on you the minute you started waving the money around asking if anyone lost it. Don't get me wrong, if I found it and I met the person who actually lost it I would definitely give it to them and/or I would at least keep my ears open after finding the cash to be able to give it back to whoever lost it. But outright marching into a place and asking if anyone lost money is idiotic since 9/10 you're just going to get liars.

I didn't ask her if she lost money, I noticed she was obviously looking for something, and I asked for a description while inside my car, while it was dark (I'm not that much of an idiot)

I helped a customer out with his order a couple months ago. As I was walking inside, I saw a stack of Benjamins on the ground. I picked it up, knowing he dropped it, cupped them into my hand and said, "Did you happen to drop any cash?" I only said this, because I saw the same wad that he used to pay for his order earlier. He is basically a kid, 20-something, and he started semi-freaking out. I gave the cash to him, and he gave me $200. I told him that was way too much, but he said if he lost the whole thing it would be a lot more of a loss. I wasn't going to fight him over that. I couldn't imaging carrying that much cash around, myself. Way too risky.
